It absolutely is about the first 4-5 games. You can't throw away games with the assumption, that hey, we'll take our lumps early and then be fine. In the four of the first five games, we are facing two divisional opponents and two teams in the Rams and Bucs that we might be in contention with for seeding come playoffs. Just saying, "OH, it's OK if we lose a couple of them because we'll get Gallup back soon after" is pretty silly thinking.

So again, if we have some WR issues and it possibly costs us a game or two, will you admit you were wrong?

Again, its not about the first few games for me. I expect some growing pains, schedule is really tough, and Gallup isnt back yet.

But if the Cowboys have WR issues the entire season and its costing the team a lot of games, then no problem admitting I was wrong.

Now if Lamb gets injured for the season, then all bets are off.

You are right, he's not. Which is why, IMO, they should have a veteran in here like Will Fuller to bridge the gap until Gallup is back, which could be 4-5 games into the season.
Patience young grasshopper.

Any expectation that Tolbert can handle the #2 role until Gallup back should be quashed at this point if history is any indicator.

It's almost criminal that Jerry and Stephen seem to think WR is just in great shape at this point. They are assuming Gallup will be back in a few weeks after the season starts AND he'll just pick up right where he left off.

They are gambling at the WR position. And if Lamb were to get hurt for a game or two early, wooo boy.

EDIT: Before the homers get wound up, I am not suggesting Tolbert isn't good or whatever. But he is what he is - a third round rookie WR. They don't typically hit right away and take time to develop. It's almost unfair to the kid to expect him to fill that #2 role effectively until Gallup is back and proves he's 100% healthy.
So far their receiver depth has looked good with Brown, Fehoko, Houston, Tolbert, and Turpin. They really look good, actually better than expected. The thing that they really need is a veteran backup offensive tackle. Overall, the team looks very good so far.

I thought you were talking about the Johnny Knoxville/Katherine Heigl movie.

Our offense was ranked number one statistically last season. Wouldn’t surprise me if we drop out of the top 10 this season. We’re not going to generate near the production this season. We’ll just have to see how many points it costs us.

I fully expect Tolbert to have some struggles. If he has legit, unanimously-decided first-round talent he should've been drafted no later than the second. I know he went to smaller school.

LOL.

You guys trot out this logic all the time. Hey, let's see what they have. And then when it's obvious they are short, oh well.

The WRs, currently, are a middle of the pack NFL group, at best until Gallup comes back and proves he's healthy. Only homers who keep thinking everything the Cowboys touch is great think otherwise.

Not that at all. Just not willing to waste too much time crying over things we can’t change.

“Homer” is as inaccurate as “hater”, although I’d rather enjoy myself and be labeled the former.

The feel good story so far in camp is the play of the young WR's. I dont expect you to admit you were wrong until real games start happening. But does that at least lessen your worries a bit?
What exactly are you referencing?

Ya see Sydla. If it’s the beginning of the league year. You can’t criticize about free agent acquisitions or lack thereof because “they still have the draft”

then if it’s the draft. You can’t criticize picks because “we haven’t seen them play yet”

then if it’s training camp you can’t criticize because “the season hasn’t started yet”

then if it’s during the season and the cowboys are losing. You can’t criticize because “the season isn’t over yet”

Really you only have about 1 week per year you can criticize without being a hater. Right after the season ends in failure yet again.

once that week is over it’s “stop focusing on the past they can contend next year”

rinse and repeat

Me thinks you have something there. Like the famous philosopher Rosanne Rosanna Danna said, " It just goes to show ya!!.....It's always something."

They're not trying to win this year but they can't say that out loud. It was obvious from the moment they dumped Cooper for nothing and extended Gallup knowing he'd be no where near ready for the start of the season.

I also feel that they aren't keen to winning as well. There were several backup swing Tackles in the market. But now they are left with none. They don't seem to care to get one despite having enough cap space.

Just a note, Gallup was pretty unproductive before the Cooper trade he was a better prospect than Tolbert. Its ok to have expectations of a 3rd WR as a 4th WR or even a 3rd WR. But expecting him to be an effective #2 is just asking for disappointment

I've been disappointed in him for quite some time. He should be able to do better even when we had Cooper. But I think Tolbert is a bit more refined than Gallup was. He is faster and run better routes.

Before the haters piggy back on this, how about giving the WR group a chance to see what they do. :muttley::popcorn:
Agreed. Everyone that agrees with this article must remember in 2018 our FO geniuses went with: Tavon Austin, Allen Hurns, and Cole Beasley. So gives these guys a break they cam always make a mid-season Roy Williams deal.

they were gambling that Washington was going to be the stop gap - when he got injured they lost that bet, they are now in a bad position and i would not be surprised to see a 1 dimensional offense that struggles until about week 3 / 4....feeling an 0-2 or 0-3 start is a pretty real possibility. I am hopeful the young guys step up as well and the other issue is there really aren't a whole lot of guys on the street that are options either because of age, skill set or drama issues.

Moore is going to have to get creative....
That's bad news for everyone.....except zeke haters.

The learning curve for wrs isn't like it used to be, nfl teams have now implemented college concepts that hp lessen the learning curve

I’m sure it’s already been mentioned but our last two 3rd round receivers did the following their rookie seasons:

Gallup
33 rec.
507 yards
2 TDs

Terrance Williams
44 rec.
736 yards
5 TDs

yeah, kinda sucks....but there could be a silver lining which is that we get to see what a more spread and diversified approach looks like. More playaction, more sweeps and complex plays....might crash and burn but could be rough.

The good news is the teams were playing dont have tape on this setup which might help a little for the first couple of games.
