A Cooperstown, New York, couple, who often complained about their neighbor to a district attorney, were taken by surprise when charges were filed against them.

Paul Sohacki and Katherine Gannon live on 12 scenic acres in Otsego County, New York. They say their neighbor Gene Ellis, who lives on more than 50 acres, attempted to steal their land. It all started, the couple recalls, because Ellis’ driveway crossed a sliver of their land.

“He never asked permission. He said, ‘You’re not going to prevent us from driving on this driveway,’” Gannon told ABC News’ “20/20.”

“He was redefining the border closer and closer to our house. We had to get the land surveyed and see who owned what,” Sohacki told “20/20.”

something similar happened to me. I was living off Greenville and 635 here in dallas and we were on the 1st floor of a 3 story complex. one night when getting home from work I'd have a note on the door saying the neighbors complained we were being too loud. well when we moved in we were told this was kinda a "party" section of the complex and we didn't care. now we were not making loud noises at all hours of the night but for several days straight I'd get a notice saying we were being too loud in our apartment.

well one day I was working late and my roommate was in the hospital for a collapsed lung. when I got home around 9pm I had a msg from the front office saying there were more complaints about our being too loud and they were going to evict us if we didn't quiet down. I called them the next morning and asked what time the complaint was filed. she said around 6pm the night before. I said I would bring home proof I signed out at 8:30pm from work the night before so it couldn't be me, of which I've told them by now a dozen times. they asked about my roommate making the noise and I said he wasn't allowed out of the hospital right now just to piss off the neighbors.

I told them 1 more complaint we would move and they would pay for 100% of it.

well they stopped calling or putting notes on our door and I went out and got headphones to listen to my music in peace and not worry about it. around 8pm one night I had my headphones on, kinda low volume even then, and my roommate, home now, knocks on my door and says there's someone at the front door to see me.

security. it seems I was being loud again. i pulled the guard into my room and showed him i was using headphones and that there were no noises coming out of this apartment to warrant yet another complaint. i flat out said for the last time any more complaints it will be lawyer time.

that weekend another knock came at my door and it was the people who lived right above us. they said we were being too loud but the front office refused to take their complaints anymore. i pointed at the tv we were watching and asked "is this too loud in here"? they said no so i asked how it could be too loud in their apartment. so we went up there and i called my roommate and told him to slowly start turning up the tv volume and when we got to the point where it was a bit loud in our apartment, we could *barely* hear in theirs. and i mean it's library quiet and you're listening for something.

so it flat out simply could not be us. but when in their apartment the light fixture above their fireplace was hanging down and i asked what happened. i was told their neighbor above them did a lot of jazzersize and she knocked the light out. i asked if they ever complained on her and they said yes but she never answered the door.

so i got complained time and time again for something i wasn't doing for nothing more than i was STUPID ENOUGH to answer the door.

I read it as well :) So ultimately what happened with the neighbors? Did they apologize?

they moved. we never got an apology at all and my roommate and I did part ways soon after and told the complex it was because of their BS and while we'd not make them pay for our move, we're not breaking a lease either, got it?

they let it go I just can't imagine the front office coming down on someone and threatening to evict them w/o proof. that was freaky.
