NY Giants - How good are they?

For all the yammering about how the Cowboys have not played anyone yet, the G-Men lost to the only two good teams they played - Dallas and Green Bay.

Their last three games have been wins over the Jets, Falcons, and 49ers, who only have 4 season wins among them.

The Falcons had their best rushing performance of the season against the Giants.

Gore and San Fran had their best rushing day of the season against the Giants.

Tony Romo had his best game of the year against the Giants.

Brett Favre had a field day against the Giants.

I keep hearing about how great their defense is, but bad teams are moving the ball on them.

They have a very good pass rusher who can make plays, I will give them that... but I have heard them referred to as the most complete Defense in the NFL... Can that really be judged, based on the teams they have played?

I agree to everything above, they should be put under the same scrutiny that we are. That being said, they are playing much better defense then they did against us and GB, and should pose a nice challenge when we go there in 3 weeks. Philly worries me if BW is near 100%, if not, they really pose little threat. The skins D will answer some questions for me this weekend, and we'll be able to see how we compare. So far, the head to head match ups have been one sided in our favor.

But WHO were they playing that "much better" defense against tho?

the giants are a good team. they got the best pass rush in the division right now. they play division opponents better than we do. we will have a tough time holding them off for the division title

Not sure how you came to this conclusion. We beat them already this year.. I also don't see us having trouble holding them off for the title. We're 6-1 and been missing key players all year and after the bye we will be almost completely healthy...

What I've thought of the Giants has not changed really. I thought they were a good team prior to our game with them, and after it. I think they're very comparable to our team, though not as good.

To simplify, on offense, they have a good quarterback, good runningbacks, a good line, a good tight end and goood receivers. Their offense is very similar to ours, except, I believe we are better, in every aspect, even if not by an unbelievable margin.

To anoint the Giants the most complete defense in the league is quite absurd. Their defense, like ours, struggles (really, really bad) against good offenses. Unfortunately, the media operates on a 1-2 week memory as far as their ridiculous propositions made on television go. Basically we faced a good offense more recently than the Giants have, and thus the Giants have a better, more complete defense. Bad logic, I know, but it's the way the media operates.

Joey Harrington...:laugh2:

It's amazing how reporters ignore completely the fact that we put up 45 on them...

best front four in the NFL...and when you can get after the QB without having to blitz, you can make the life of the other team pretty miserable. I would argue they are the best team in the NFC right now with the Cowboys a VERY CLOSE 2nd

in week 1! teams are rusty in week 1. don't put too much stock into what happened in the 1st game of the season.

I sure do like our BIG OLINE against their front four, especially with Romo side stepping the rush and hitting the open reciever downfield. Like he did in game 1...

To be fair, Osi was hurt in game 1. And Strahan was playing with no training camp or preseason under his belt.

Well, while we're being fair, we were missing TG, TNew, and Fergy missed part of that game also.... I'm just saying!!!!

Their defensive line is playing pretty good, but you also have to look at the offensive lines they have been facing....not very good.

Their secondary is still suspect, but have been opportunistic as of late with Aaron Ross getting easy picks.

Their offense is still sputtering in the pass, yet their running game has improved week to week.

Their QB....well, go look at his stats on NFL.com and Eli's numbers are less than impressive. Glove Plax and you pretty well shut down their passing game.

This is such BS...The Giants LBs and DBs are not very good. WITTEN will own them again. Are they really going to try and cover 82 with Kiwanuka again? They don't have an answer for our TE or TO. We will run the ball on them as well. GET REAL!!!

They are playing MUCH better. The talk here is all about how harmonious the locker room is...which was never the case.

BUT I think the second half will tell us...they've faded in the second half under Coughlin...much like the Cowboys did under Parcells.

They have a lot of talent at the skill positions....I think Burress is one of the more underrated WR's in the game.

I'm still not a believer in Manning.

But I did think the retirement of Barber would really have put a dent in this team...so far, that's not been the case.

Nor I.

Eli is one of the most inconsistant QB's in the league. He'll have one really good game, then 3 straight bad games. He still makes very poor decisions at crucial times.

Pretty much. And I haven't been too impressed with his accuracy. It's a good thing Burress is 6ft 5!

While true, that has nothing to do with the argument at hand. You're comparing our Oline to their front 4. What does Tnew, TG, or Fergy have to do with it?

I don't know how well we can run on them, but I think the oline can give Romo enough time, but it will also depend on how well the TE and RBs block.
