the last 2 years the cowboys have started off average to above average and than folded in november and december. i'm not saying week 1 doesn't matter because it clearly does. but trying to measure a how good a team is playing at midseason by going back and looking at the 1st game isn't the best way in my opinion. It's not how you start it's how you finish

And the Giants had the same issue last year as we did. They faded down the stretch.

And for all these people claiming Eli is playing so well this year? Have you looked at his numbers? He's playing average. He's an average at best QB at this point in his career and to argue anything else is silly until he actually shows it on a consistent basis.

He also has this look of "OMG it's so unfair!" everytime something bad happens to him. It makes me laugh. So I guess that's one positive. ;)

No kidding. He's ranked 20th in passer rating. He's had ONE game with a rating higher than 87.9, which is about an average rating. (Just for comparison, Romo already has SIX games of at least 91.0.) He's also thrown at least one interception in every game so far.

The Giants are clearly playing better football. We will be playing them in their house after their bye week which will make things more difficult. The Cowboys defense should also be better than the one the Giants saw the last time. We'll see how it goes. I think the Cowboys will be able to move the ball against them. I don't know whether we will be able to stop them from moving the ball.

One thing does bother me. The Giants seem to get a lot schedule breaks. The "road" game with the Saints. This season they get to play Miami "at home" in London and do not play the Patriots until the last game of the season.

The Giants are a LOT better than I thought they would be and it's in large part due to Eli's play thus far. The defense is solid and playing well, up to last week, Plaxico had caught a TD pass in EVERY game and they have been doing this without Jacobs. Even Toomer is playing well and getting a lot of calls.

I am not at all sure Eli can continue to play mistake-free football and he still throws a horrendous ball from time to time but thus far, he has kept his mistakes at a minimum.

They are playing much better than I thought they would.

Here it is in a nutshell - get GOOD pressure on Eli, and you have beaten the Giants.

I think the Giants are a good team I think the key with them is stopping the pass rush up front. If you do that you can have a big day against their secondary

This post is not to discredit what the Giants have done, but to point out possible smoke and mirrors involved in their sudden five game winning streak and dominating defense.

The Giants have played seven teams: Cowboys, Packers, Commanders, Eagles, Jets, Falcons, and 49ers. (in that order)

The Giants lead the league with 27 sacks. Of those 27 sacks, 22 of them came against the Eagles, Falcons, and 49ers. Of those teams, the Eagles and Falcons are tied for 30th and 31st in sacks given up, and the 49ers are tied for 28th and 29th with the Rams in sacks given up.

So, 81% of their 27 sacks came against three teams who just happen to rank 29th, 30th, and 31st in sacks given up. 44% of their sacks (12) came against the Eagles when Winston Justice was starting his first game for an injured William Thomas.

From what I've read, the 49ers who game up six sacks to the Giants replaced their left tackle and right guard during the game. Top it off with the rookie Joe Staley playing right tackle and it's no wonder the Giants had a field day.

So, 22 of 27 sacks came in three games, and 18 of 27 sacks came in two games.

Four of the seven teams the Giants have played are ranked 25th or lower in total offense. Washington (25th), Atlanta (27th), Jets (29th), and 49ers (32nd).

It sounds more likely that the Giants exposed some very poor offenses rather than the Giants all the sudden became an extremely dominating defense. It's a shame that they don't play the Pats until the final game of the season.

Of course, this type of research can surely be done to expose several of the Cowboys appeared strengths also.

Sacks given up stats

the giants are a good team. they got the best pass rush in the division right now. they play division opponents better than we do. we will have a tough time holding them off for the division title

Do they or is it just smoke and mirrors? Read my other post.

To be fair, Osi was hurt in game 1. And Strahan was playing with no training camp or preseason under his belt.

Subtract the Eagles game against Winston Justice and Osi has two sacks this season. Justin Tuck has seven.

i just found out this interesting fact. this is the 4th straight year the giants have been 5-2 and only once have they finished with a record above 500. they also have no playoff wins in that time.

The Giants must be terrible because we haven't beaten any decent teams yet, and we beat them.

Sounds logical to me! :laugh2:

If you listen to the NY media, you would swear he was just a rung beneath Peyton. They talk about Romo like he can throw the ball, but will throw 5 INTs in ever fourth game. :laugh2:

Well, they play Miami then their schedule starts to get more difficult starting with Dallas. They still don't have a really tough schedule, but anytime you have to play divisional games in the NFC East, it's not easy. Outside of the division, they still have Chicago (who is recovering from the physical beating Dallas put on them) Vikings, and finish off with New England.

The giants are getting a lot of praise because they are on a win streak, their defense has improved its play (against inferior teams, but still anyone watching has to notice the improvements) and the cowboys offense struggled against buffalo - the boys won a game they should have lost, then got beat by the patriots and the defense looked awful in the 4th quarter of that game and the first half the cowboy offense self destructed against minny with the 2 fumbles in first half.

The past 3 games the cowboys have gone 2-1 but have done little to make people say wow. Its becoming obvious that the Packers dont have a run game and people realize that is going to catch up with then soon enough.

The Giants are on a 5 game win streak and are the team that is making the "highlight reel" type of plays right now, thus they are the big story.

To be honest, i would wager that the G Men may be the NFC team that is the biggest threat to the cowboys and we will probably see the cowboys and giants play each other in the playoffs.
