Observations of The Giants game and Eli Manning

I noticed that 90% of Eli's throws went to the left. He would stare the receiver down and really look no where else or go through his progressions if that was not opened he would force it. It wasnt that he was just looking for Plaxico because even when Plaxico was lined up on the right he still favored the receiver to the left. They had him roll out to right and he seemed to struggle with moving and being forced to the right. They stared blitzing Eli in the second half which through his timing off and he began to rush throws. The clock in his head started ticking a little quicker. I dont see where Eli has made any improvement since our meetings last year and possibly he has regressed. Cowboys could have an easier road if things stay the same.

What I saw of Eli and the Giants / Commanders.

  • Manning's first INT should have been his 4th INT of the game.
  • Burress looked very good.
  • The Commanders defensive front looks to be in trouble
  • Jacobs looked better than he actually was. Several of his long runs he was untouched. That points to the Giants oline, but more specifically the Commanders dline.
  • The Commanders secondary got better after Smoot went out of the game.
  • Fletcher had 17 tackles, that doesn't bode well for a 4-3 defense.
  • .5 of the Commanders two sacks came from their D-line. (again, for a 4-3 defense, it does not bode well)
  • Daniel Snyder is a schmuck and he destorying any chance of Campbell becoming a good NFL QB with him playing musical chairs with the teams coaching staff.
  • Campbell has a great arm
  • The Giants traded Shockey because they felt they could replace him with Kevin Boss. Where was Kevin Boss last night? He started the game.

Thats enough for now.

my two questions were 1: why was Amani Toomer not involved more and 2: where was Kevin Boss? Eli seemed to have one option, and that was Plax.

A few things that I saw from the game...

1) The Commanders offense is in trouble for the early part of the year. They obviously, most specifically Campbell, don't have it anywhere near down to the point of even knowing their scheme moderately.

2) The Skins D-Line is terrible. I mean just TERRIBLE. They allowed the Giants to absolutely gash them all night long and the D-Line, by itself, got very little, if any, real pressure on Eli all night. Long year for their defense if this keeps up.

3) The Skins secondary was terrible. Smoot or no Smoot it was a joke. Now I believe Springs was out last night (Correct?) but even with him I don't think that secondary is all that much better. Terrible defensive unit.

4) The Giants defense does not impress me as much as it did but I think everyone would agree with that with the losses of Strahan and Osi. I just got the feeling last night that what good things they were doing was more a by-product of just how inept the Skins are with their own offense, rather then the Giants being scary good up front like last year.

5) The Giants secondary is still very, very, very weak. There were plenty of chances last night, I thought, for the Skins to exploit this but a combination of bad reciever play (Dropped balls), poor QB play, and very, very, very poor coaching kept them from doing it.

6) Burress looked like the stud he's always been. A real quality NFL Wide Reciever. He should have a monster year if he can stay healthy.

7) Brandon Jacobs looked really good. He is usually a pretty good back anyway, nothing spectacular, but I have to feel that he was made to look like a Pro Bowler last night because of the Skins horrible ability to play the run.

8) Eli looked like...well Eli. He looked like the normal Eli that has pretty much played this way his entire career save that 4 game run where he played near perfect, almost error free, football to help the G-Men get a Superbowl win. Now he looks like he's back to playing like the Eli who always plays in the regular season. Someone whose very up and down. He was missing recievers terribly last night and really just over throwing everyone. Plax had a huge night but he probably could have had at least 40-50 more yards if Eli wasn't over throwing him.

9) The Giants just don't scare me quite as much, right now, as I thought they would. But until we beat them, and beat them soundly, I won't be willing to say they won't come in here and knock us in the mouth. They've done it before, we need to repay them for that.

10) Last night was example number one of what I've been telling my friends who are Giants fans, and anyone else, all summer long that this stupid notion that Boss would be better than Shockey was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

First of all this Boss 'great play' that I kept being told about last playoffs...where was it? The dude caught like 3 of 4 passes over the course of the Cowboys, Packers, and Superbowl games. He is not a option, at all. He didn't play great he just showed up.

Well last night he did that agian. He didn't play great, he simply showed up. He's nothing. Eli, and the Giants fans, will be missing Shockey a lot more than they thought they would have.

I agree, great assessment.

I would only add this regarding the midgets, if we are able to pressure Eli we will destroy them.

Regarding the deadskins, they have a multitude of problems and they are mostly centered around offensive play design.

I can't recall seeing a team maybe the boys circa Campo era when it was a third and medium and all of the routes were short of the sticks. I just hope they continue that trend against us because as it stands now we can easily sweep these bums.

Pretty good summary IMO, although I'd change 'Campbell has a great arm' to 'Campbell has a strong arm'. 'Great', to me, implies that he's accurate. He's not.

Our biggest weakness against the Giants last year was our secondary. Throwing at Reeves was literally a free first down. I think this year will be different. I kept watching last night and thought Romo would have gashed that defense. Especially w/ Felix Jones in the mix.

That kid has a long way to go. He doesn't throw the outside balls with confidence. He steps into awkwardly/gingerly. Accuracy and ball placement need work. Couple of throws should've been to the opposite shoulder.
Reads are way slow. He's gonna get someone hurt. Fletcher was all over the place covering the DL butt. Otherwise a very boring game.

BTW......Sneed (?) needs to be fined for a blatant tackle that hurt what's his face. (Can't rmmember who it was but it was the last play of the game.)

Zorn looked lost last night. The look in his eyes as he stared at the field was just sad.

The Skins play calling was weak to say the least.

That is what I was trying to imply. He could zip that ball a long way in a tight spiral while living a smoke trail behind it.

Correctly restated. Campbell's pocket presences also stinks. That first sack was all on him. He rolled to the outside instead of stepping back up into the middle of the pocket where it was wide open.

My observations:

1. Justin Tuck is a monster. This guy is awesome! I don't understand why he gets so many breathers though.

2. Eli should have thrown 5 ints. If the Skins could catch.

3. The Giants Oline is very good....very solid cohesive unit on both run blocking and pass blocking.

4. Was. is just bad.....they look like they have no direction on offense.

5. I still hate RW McQuarters.....I don't know why....I've always hated this guy.

6. I think our Oline will be able to knock the Giants off the ball fairly easy...they are quick, but they are very light up front. (As long as our Oline can play 4 quarters!!!!!)

7. I really hate Antonio Pierce! I hate his face...his mouth...and just think he's a dirty player.

8. Overall....the Giants will still be tough. If we win the division again this year we can beat anybody in the AFC.

This probably has to do with the fact that he goes full speed expending everything he has every snap. The good thing is he is very effective, the bad thing is it opens up more options for the opposing offense when he is out. Obviously he is their most effective defensive lineman and when he is out, they are considerably weaker up front.

While I would agree that Eli showed a propensity for the left and typically that's where Plax lines up but I think it would be a bit overzealous to start writing Manning's epitaph based on that.

As mediocre as I found him to be much of the time, he beat us...Let's try and keep a little perspective on that part at least...Winners win, losers talk...Let's let the Giants talk about their disrespect once we knock them off

I think the two biggest issues for the Giants and Commanders are

1) For the Giants Eli Manning - For a superbowl winning QB who turned the corner, he looked like the same Eli Manning we saw the last 4 years save the first drive. His biggest problem is his inabilty to go through his progressions, and his accuarcyproblem. As long as he plays this badly, the giants will not be blowing any teams away.

2) for the Commanders Jason Campbell - For a QB who is suppose to thrive in a west coast system that he ran in Auburn he looked like a lost soul. He contually shown zero accuarcy on short and long range throws. He showed small abilty to avoid the sack of someone he see's coming, but will run right into a sack through his lack of poket awareness. His biggest problem though will come in his poor descion making, as he contually through the ball to either covered WR's, or WR's who were 8 yards short of the first down.

For these two teams to accomplish anything this season, or in this division, they will need much better play from the QB's. This kind of play throughout the season will leave both of those teams out of the playoff picture completly.

Jason Taylor is greatly miscast as a strong-side DE. He just isn't big enough and he's always thinking pass-rush first. Even the Giants' TE's were controlling him.

I must've been watching a different game for stretches because the Campbell I saw put the ball on the money a lot of the time...If nothing else, it was confirmed that Thrash bears more than a spelling similarity to Trash...The guy missed at least 3 balls that were right in his hands...And let's not forget that the OLine didn't do a great job of keeping that pocket intact against a rush that lost 2 of it's best pass rushers
