Covering all the basics.

Dallas will trade or release Tony Romo because it is the "humane" thing to do. It's also simply a smart football move. TR wants no part of ending his career here as a back up. And Dallas can not pay 24 million in cap hit for a back up QB. Its astonishing that people believe that is an option.
What seems clear is there will be a lot of noise right up until the trigger the pulled.
TR is a huge media story so you'll get his agent's angel, the Cowboys front office angle and TR's angle.
Sports stories in the off-season are the original fake news.
I do believe he gets moved via trade because vet, Pro Bowl QBs are insanely valuable and we've seen TR can make a Pro Bowls in 12 games.

Dak/Tony "competition": That will never happen. Same as in any business if one guy makes 1/40th the replacement and proves he can do the job, it no longer matters who does it best. This isn't about team chemistry even though that would be mightily affected, this is about cost to do business.

Salary Cap truthers.... Like in most things the answer is in the middle. Dallas is not and never has been in "cap hell". At the same time they are never going to free up 60M in cap space either. They are going to follow a predictable pattern of creating needed space and remaining mostly frugal on the open market only jumping on values. We have 3-4 years worth of evidence of this and of course the consistent message of Stephen Jones. Safe bet is as Stephen says, improvement will come from the draft.

Mo/Carr is interesting. Last year Mo was a top 6 CB for ~6 games then his usual injured self. Carr was solid all year in a contract year but has proven he's really a CB2 caliber guy that lacks speed. The 2 of them together are superb because you get size/strength and vet moxie versus pure speed and smooth hips. If you get one back for 1 season virtually everyone would take Carr. But what if you got 1 for 3 seasons? What if Carr wants 8m for 1 year and Mo wants a 3 year 20 mil deal with only about 4m cap hit next year? Not sure I'd decide this one until I see the numbers. I remember my happiness when we got rid of overpaid, injured TNew... then he put up a contract worth of good seasons for Cincy while we burned an R1 on Mike Jenkins.

TWill is also interesting. Fans have been abusive which is partially understandable given the spotlighted mistakes but also a bit tough as he is a home town Dallas kid who spent college 45 mins away. He cares what fans think because he's a local kid and a fan of the team. IF he loves the area enough to return on a discount I hope fans embrace him. His overall play has been at a high level. IF he leaves for more money then so be it and on we go to the draft. But don't try to sell me that Brice Butler was better all along because nope.

This really, really looks like the best young team in football. I truly hope we are witnessing the start of something special. We do not have the talent of 1991 but it does feel that like inevitable rise with this team.

I am completely done with Mo..no matter the price...he can't stay on the field, can't be counted on. time to move on. i want guys I can count on...not "potential".
I am listening, just need to know who we move on to,, draft pick, FA,,, if so who.
I would rather build this secondary through the draft,, my guy is Cordrea Tankersley, CB, Clemson , check him out.

I resign Carr and draft one between 1-3 rounds. I live in NC so I see plenty of Clemson games, Tankersley would be nice.

Proves you got a good eye for talent, at least from me.
A "Tank" in the secondary... unconventional in Cowboys land since Darren Woodson era... one can dream ..

Mo was having a career season prior to being injured. I'd give him another year but more than likely he will find a better deal. Bye MO.

He might but I think all of his deals will have playing time escalators, this may be it for him, how long can one guy stick around and play par and only play half a season before he is considered too risky.

nice thing about that is you can give him a vet min base with escalators and they will be unlikely to be earned after his games total of last year.
i'd def think it will take creativity but i wouldn't ever ignore talent unless there was too big a character issue or an existing injury.

Under appreciation for a CB of the caliber that he can be is apparent. They don't grow on trees

Romo will fetch a conditional 3rd that could turn into a 2nd in 2018.

Carr gets a 3 year deal that's team friendly. Win/win contract.

Mo will accept another 1 year conditional deal, lower base, higher incentive.

We target another CB in the top 3 rounds.

Terrance is gone. Will cost too much for what is, realistically, the 5th option on offense outside of Zeke, Dez, Witten, and Beasley.

Butler is re-signed.

Expect another WR in the top 4 rounds, and Dak's guy later in the draft Ross.

I LIKE the one year deal for Mo. Carr returns and we draft another CB.
I like Jibrill in the draft but as the combine nears his freak is sendinf him up the board
and his preference for LB has cooled my jets,
TWill is a mystery for me. We have a guy in waiting,Andy Jones.
Ya,gmoney I'm thinkin Ross also.
addendum; Escobar kills me. I hate to lose him. What about as a WR

When Carr said he might retire I think he meant if we don't resign him. He's settled here with his family and all his charities. He has no desire to go anywhere else IM.

I feel you, but the same was said about Sean Lee not too long ago.

Spot on bro! I feel exactly the same on all counts, although Butler could go either way for me.

It's is going to be interesting to see what ultimately happens with a Romo. I heard them speaking about it on Sirius NFL radio and they were saying that people far underestimate how much Romo will bring us in a trade and how many teams will be competing for him. I hope that's correct.

That's what I think, too. Romo's better regarded by football coaches than he is by a lot of fans. And difference making QBs don't come around that often in the veteran market. They're valuable.

Great summation. Don't agree with everything but plenty enough. Williams is a tough case. I think he is much better than Butler, but he is likely to be paid more than Dallas will afford.
