Covering all the basics.
Dallas will trade or release Tony Romo because it is the "humane" thing to do. It's also simply a smart football move. TR wants no part of ending his career here as a back up. And Dallas can not pay 24 million in cap hit for a back up QB. Its astonishing that people believe that is an option.
What seems clear is there will be a lot of noise right up until the trigger the pulled.
TR is a huge media story so you'll get his agent's angel, the Cowboys front office angle and TR's angle.
Sports stories in the off-season are the original fake news.
I do believe he gets moved via trade because vet, Pro Bowl QBs are insanely valuable and we've seen TR can make a Pro Bowls in 12 games.
Dak/Tony "competition": That will never happen. Same as in any business if one guy makes 1/40th the replacement and proves he can do the job, it no longer matters who does it best. This isn't about team chemistry even though that would be mightily affected, this is about cost to do business.
Salary Cap truthers.... Like in most things the answer is in the middle. Dallas is not and never has been in "cap hell". At the same time they are never going to free up 60M in cap space either. They are going to follow a predictable pattern of creating needed space and remaining mostly frugal on the open market only jumping on values. We have 3-4 years worth of evidence of this and of course the consistent message of Stephen Jones. Safe bet is as Stephen says, improvement will come from the draft.
Mo/Carr is interesting. Last year Mo was a top 6 CB for ~6 games then his usual injured self. Carr was solid all year in a contract year but has proven he's really a CB2 caliber guy that lacks speed. The 2 of them together are superb because you get size/strength and vet moxie versus pure speed and smooth hips. If you get one back for 1 season virtually everyone would take Carr. But what if you got 1 for 3 seasons? What if Carr wants 8m for 1 year and Mo wants a 3 year 20 mil deal with only about 4m cap hit next year? Not sure I'd decide this one until I see the numbers. I remember my happiness when we got rid of overpaid, injured TNew... then he put up a contract worth of good seasons for Cincy while we burned an R1 on Mike Jenkins.
TWill is also interesting. Fans have been abusive which is partially understandable given the spotlighted mistakes but also a bit tough as he is a home town Dallas kid who spent college 45 mins away. He cares what fans think because he's a local kid and a fan of the team. IF he loves the area enough to return on a discount I hope fans embrace him. His overall play has been at a high level. IF he leaves for more money then so be it and on we go to the draft. But don't try to sell me that Brice Butler was better all along because nope.
This really, really looks like the best young team in football. I truly hope we are witnessing the start of something special. We do not have the talent of 1991 but it does feel that like inevitable rise with this team.
