Now is the time to prove that this organization is serious about winning again. It’s time to start cleaning house. Time to release players that are not in future plans. Time to let go of guys that either cost too much, aren’t what we need anymore, or are just not good enough.

Who needs to be released?
Here’s a list of players who need to be released for cap savings and/or just aren’t what we need:
  • S Donovan Wilson - hits like a freight train but couldn’t cover his grandma. Designate him a June 1 cut and we save approximately $7 mil.
  • RT Terance Steele - Another guy who should get a June 1 cut. Saves about $13 mil in cap space.
  • S Malik Hooker - Is 30 now and is not the future. Making him a June 1 cut saves around $6 mil in cap space.
  • DE Sam Williams - I believe he is now a free agent but we should just let him walk. Never showed he was capable of fulfilling his potential. Goodbye.
  • LB Logan Wilson - turns 30 this yr. Will not be part of this defensive rebuild. Can save about $6 million with his release.
  • LB Kenneth Murray - he was a joke last year at LB. Pretty sure he was just on a one year deal so…adios KM.
  • DL Solomon Thomas - getting older, costs 3 million next yr…not a lot but he can’t be considered a key cog in our future.
  • S Marquese Bell - every time I see him in the field it reminds me of watching him get trucked over and over in the run game vs the packers in that playoff disaster. He needs to go.
These are just the major names. The Cowboys need not only a talent face lift - especially on defense. They need a complete reset on D.

If JJ is serious about swimming in FA waters, we need to start cutting bait.

The problem with releasing everyone off that list is who will be their replacements? You can't count on FA to fill all their spots, and then with drafting, it doesn't guarantee they will be "starter-ready". I'm okay with releasing most of these, BUT, I would consider keeping Hooker, Thomas and Steele. I know everyone hates Steele, but do we have someone on the team who could take his place? Many have suggested moving Guyton to RT, but then, who plays LT? It's a tricky situation.

Great list. Hope it happens

I think a lot of the right guys to be considering moving on from. Wilson, Williams, and Murray are all free agents so nothing they need to do there.

The Cowboys are going to need a lot in the secondary, LB, and DE so I do wonder if some of these experienced guys under contract are brought back for the time being. Most interesting one is Steele who's pretty good at run blocking, not so much pass blocking. The cap savings is nice, but being there are questions at the other tackle spot may be someone they try a paycut/restructure with first. Not a fan of retaining someone because of the fear of unknown replacements though.

I was thinking about why I feel a little more optimistic when usually I know it’s just not gonna get done.

I think it was the presser when JJ said that Schotty was on board with the Fluss hiring. He totally threw Schotty under the bus and it seems like everything’s been different since.

There’s no way JJ or SJ knew any of these defensive staff hires. I didn’t, and I don’t think many of us here knew more than one or two including CP.

The only frustrating thing is it seems like they’re gonna ignore big needs on offense and special teams.

As far as players, clear out as much as possible, including Clarke. Flip the switches and Make trades for other players or better yet, draft picks. Though the danger with having too many picks in one draft is paying up if they hit.

It’s a good question Mary. But what I always keep in mind is remembering what we were with those players. Back to back losing seasons, no playoffs and not a bright future with them.

So my answer to your question is, we will be replacing them with what we think IS the future. Obviously some in the draft but equally important will be finding a few impact starters in FA that fit what we want to become.

The guys on that list are anchors not helpers at least IMO. I believe one of this organization’s biggest bad habits is hanging on to players too long who haven’t given you that much anyway.

Given all the other needs elsewhere, I can’t see them making safety a priority. It’s not a position they value. They will try to get more out of Wilson and Hooker and it will burn them sooner than later.

Even if Stephen begrudgingly agrees to open the checkbook, there aren’t enough resources to sufficiently fix this roster in one off season.

Jeez, everyone is focused on defense, and rightfully so, but they have to spring for Pickens and Williams just to keep status quo. Also the tackle situation is less than ideal given the resources invested.

That said, every team has holes. It’s up to quality coaching/scheming to hide your own and exploit the same of the opponent. Rarely to never does a Jerry hire outcoach the better ones in the league.

awsome list. I am onboard.

i really liked what Solomon brought to the table, and at that price I'd love to have him back as a veteran presence.

Whom do you suggest we trde?
I know this is not a popular opinion, but I would trade a couple of guys who are very popular. Not because they aren’t good or wouldn’t be good here. But if we are truly going to rebuild, we need more assets, not more big contracts where we may already have some talent.

Here are the guys I would see a trade for:
  • Kenny Clark - unless something is done with his contract, he will cost $21 mil next year. At a position we actually have some talent in QWill and Osa. Plus Clark will turn 31 in Oct. We need some more draft capital on Day 2 and 3.
  • George Pickens - I love his talent but we should absolutely NOT have the most expensive WR room in the league. It would hinder our defensive rebuild IMO. Tag Pickens and trade him.
Again I know these trades aren’t popular but Clark is not the future. And having the most expensive WR room doesn’t make us better IMO.

Whom do you suggest we trde?
The whole sentence read flip the switches…

I suggest they extent players and create max cap room, sign FAs that fit CP’s system, make trades for players that have experience in CP’s system, or for picks that can be used to draft players that fit CP’s system.

Quality rebuilding starts with two things:
  • Getting rid of contracts (players) that aren’t in your future
  • Obtaining assets that can expedite the rebuild.
In other words, get leaner to spend some money on better players in FA and obtain as many draft picks as you can.

That's a good start. All 4 need cut. Entire new Safety crew is needed.

Dono, Hooker, Bell, Thomas. What is the point of keeping any of them?

No disrespect intended here…but what does Solomon actually bring that makes him valuable?

Hooker is an enigma.

He was a stud playmaker at OSU and Indy, but couldn’t stay on the field.

Lately, he has been relatively healthy but rarely makes any plays.

The best thing that can happen to this team is Downs slipping to 12. Probably not, but maybe…due to position.
