Everyone has their thoughts on how to improve the 'Boys this offseason. So here goes mine.

1) TRADE: Offer Romo & 18th pick for Vilma and the Jets 2nd Round choice. (Rumors were flying during the season that the Jets wanted to deal Vilma to San Diego for Rivers. Also had us giving Romo to them for a 3rd.)

2) FA: Sign Jeff Backus RT Detroit Lions; Ryan Longwell K Green Bay; Corey Chavous S Minnesota Vikings

3) Draft: 2nd Round (Jets) Gabe Watson DT Michigan, 2nd Round Max Jean-Giles G/T Georgia 3rd Round Maurice Stovall WR Notre Dame, 4-7 round BPA

Key loss: LaRoi Glover, Al Singleton

Starting Line-up/Back-Up

QB: Bledsoe/Henson
RB: Jones/Barber
FB: Polite
WR: Johnson, Glenn, Crayton, Stovall
TE: Witten/Campbell
RT: Adams/Columbo
RG: Allen/Peterman
C: Johnson/Gurode
LG: Rivera/Jean-Giles
LT: Backus/Pettiti

LE: Canty/Ellis
NT: Ferguson/Watson
RE: Spears/Ratliff

LB: Ware/Thornton
LB: James/Shanle
LB: Vilma/Fowler
LB: Fujita/Burnett

CB: Henry/Reeves
SS: Williams/Davis
FS: Chavous/Beurilut (sp)
CB: Newman/Glenn

K: Longwell
P: McBrief

I like Chavous at FS, makes more sense than drafting one high, I like Longwell, but would prefer Kai Parham and Manny Lawson to pair with Ware and James and would prefer Culpepper/Omar Jacobs at qb and at Wr, I would add Todd Watkins or Jonathan Orr instead of Stovall. Otherwise, looks good to me.

He might be a better value. It is really a down year for WRs though isn't it?

I don't know. I think that for like 4 years running, WRs have been exceptionally deep. Part of the reason is that so many have been coming out early. Now, it seems thin but really, I think it's just a matter of the position righting itself. Eventually, it had to thin out with so many young guys leaving early. Not as many guys worthy of high picks at WR but I think it will get back to having 4 to 5 guys worthy of going high by next year. The NFL is a passing league so WRs and DBs are always going to be in demand. Where there's demand............

But I do like Baskett.

Well, it may be semantics but I could agree on "least crappy". :D

Fine. The point stands either way.

It's just that too many people confuse what happens in the NFL and the type of schemes that are implemented for players who it's a full time job and the type of thing they do in college where they gets kids for a couple of hours a day.

Not so much at South Bend. There's a reason why Charlie Weiss got Stovall and Quinn to step up to another level. Stovall really did nothing in his 1st two years. Weiss is playing chess and his opponents by and large are playing checkers. That's not a knock on Stovall per se but it is saying that Weiss is looking for ways to exploit matchups and he's got the expertise to do it. Having said all this I like Stovall but I wouldn't spend more than a late 2nd to get him.

He's tall but I wouldn't consider him "huge". The Senior Bowl practices are showing what some of us already knew. Stovall has a great shot at being very good in the NFL.

WRs in the NFL need to get separation and Stovall does that. Very quick for his size and really uses his hands well to create more separation than any other receiver there. I don't really care what a player's 40 time is, some "slow" players separate (Rice, Owens) while some blazers don't.

Nance is quicker getting seperation, but can't go wrong with either

I like Baskett. I think that you can draft him a bit later and get more. JMO of course.

yeah, cuz he's struggling, but the kid has talent

I'd take him in the 5th round

I like Watkins in the late 3rd or 4th if we can acquire one, and Lawson....I like Chris Hope in FA and Backus.. I also like Nedney as the kicker here.......I do like Martin Nance as well in the 3rd.

I maybe shouldn't have implied that Ginn was better, but I do think that teams feared Ginn more than they did Holmes. I do think that Ginn didn't progress from his freshman year as much as most OSU fans had hoped.

Are you a Big 10 hater? Where do you actually live?
Lets start the seed now on Ginn sucks, ask Ohio state fans, he underachieves, he's lazy. Will come in handy when he's talked about as a sure fire 1st round draft pick:bang2:

Ted Ginn Jr played Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Running Back and Defensive Back in Highschool, withe Later, Defensive Back being the position he cut his teeth on and made his reputation.

He has only been playing Wide Receiver primarily in college and suffice it to say, his progression could take some time because he didnt play it primarily in High School.

He was shutdown by Texas, but Texas focused on him and some trash talking about Ginn Jr. even took place days before the game.

Of course, he went off on Notre Dame, who probably lack the athletes at Corner to defend him, but nevertheless, he totally dominated the Fightin Irish on a big stage.
