Maybe it’s just frustration because Garrett and/or Dak have clawed their way out of the dumpster, at least temporarily and I get that but I am shocked at this forum the last two days.

Why is there so much hate directed towards our offense after Sunday’s performance?

First let’s break down some numbers...

The Falcons defense, prior to Sunday’s game, was allowing about 28 points a game. We scored 22, even the most pessimistic fan can admit that our offense played good enough for 5 additional points with the Beasley drop and the missed PAT. 27 points puts us on par with what the Falcons typically give up and that number is also in the same ballpark of our 2016 offense.

We were 7/13 on 3rd down which is also a huge improvement. We also did not turn the ball over. Falcons have recorded an interception in 7 of their 9 games before they played us. Obviously we would like to get back to the point where we can trust Dak not to throw interceptions but at this point, we are looking for improvement and 1 over the last 5 games is just that.

Now...I am sure I’ll hear some complaining about check downs and lack of big plays.

I get that...but I also believe the team made a decision to play that way. The only way the Falcons were going to beat us is by throwing the football to their big play receivers. The goal was to control the flow of the game which our offense and especially our defense did well. Duke Johnson and Nick Chubb combined for 7 receptions and 2 scores the week before..once Deion Jones was listed as out, a game plan emphasizing the short passing game seemed like a good option. Even the most brilliant offensive minds would agree to that.

Now I get that there will be a time when we need more than 22 or maybe even 27 points. Most of us thought it would have been against the Falcons. I am making no wild predictions of offensive greatness or fantasy football worthy performances from anyone not named Zeke but that is just not how this offense is designed...maybe you hate it and that’s okay.

My observations from the game were that the offense looked a lot like 2016. The game flowed through Zeke and Dak managed the game. The offense didn’t turn the ball over, concerted 3rd downs and “closed the game” when it came time. The fact is we are a run first team that is playing good defense. This is not an exciting or flashy offense BUT....when they are playing up to their potential and Linehan doesn’t cal the plays like a HS coordinator, they are very efficient and compliment the defense nicely.

We had 350 yards and one player had over 200. You can call it an average performance but you can't call it good. Had we lost the game we'd all be complaining about it. But we have put up several other turds this season, and I'm not sure we're out of the woods yet.

Only 323 yards.

An antiquated offense like ours can work against mediocre teams like the Eagles or Falcons. Cool.

We go against the Pats, Rams, Chiefs, or Saints... We're gonna get blown out by 20.

This isn't 1993.

A couple three-and-outs and we would quickly be down 14; and at that point, our running game (which is our only hope for scoring points) is rendered obsolete.

Yeah, we scored 22 against the Falcons. Could have scored 27. That means next-to-nothing in the 2018 NFL.

Sundays performance was good if your name is Zeke. Watching Dak throw for only 200 yards, no TD's is not inspiring confidence they could get the passing game going if need be. Dak is 33rd in passing yards per game. We won inspite of his limitations.

Lol. Such pathetic comments on several threads. For the past 2 weeks, y'all were saying Garrett, Dak and this team could not beat such high powered teams like the iggles and falcons. Now that the Cowboys destroyed them, here comes more "let's see what they do in 10 days against the Saints?"

Always excuses, instead of accepting, crediting, jumping on board and supporting.

For most posters here, unfortunately, replacing Garrett and Dak is more important than winning. They dislike the coaching philosophy and would rather see the team sling the ball around and lose 54-50.

The irony is that if this were Bill Parcells and not Jason Garrett they’d be behind him. Tuna called the game the same way - control time of possession, run the football, play great defense, keep the ball out of the other team’s hands, and make a big play or two in the passing game.

That philosophy is old school. You can win that way, even if your quarterback and halfback are Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick.

Positive: It’s much more successful than throwing the ball all over the field and risking turnovers (Chiefs had 3 last night).

Negative: More close games, which means your games more often than not will be decided by field goals.

We should be thrilled. Garrett and co. called two outstanding games and had two very good game plans. We won two games on the road. But some “fans” will continue to hate on the team until there’s a new head coach with a different offensive philosophy.

I agree but you have to score more that 27 to win consistently. I used to say hold them to 17 or less and win 90+% and I was right. Same numbers as Landry espoused. But that 28PPG has changed and has grown to 33+ although teams at the top change. Right now 3 teams are over or near 35.

Parcells and Landry's game has changed but look at Pitt and NE for consistency.

They want to be entertained with constant gunslinging, high scoring action on the field, EVEN IF IT RESULTS IN LOSSES, than watching sound lower scoring old fashioned winning football. This is why this specific crowd was totally in love with Romo and his gunslinging ways, while hating Dak for opposite reasons. It's not about overall solid team football for them because It's too boring. Instead, it's about getting entertained with gunslinging action, regardless of wins or losses. It's why they loved Romo, yet hate Dak.

No. I’m telling you that stats like passing yards are only important in fantasy football. @jobberone makes a good point. You need to score about 27 points a game to win in this league.

The Chiefs threw the ball 46 times and ran 20 times (some of which were scrambles). You’ll score more points that way but you’ll surrender time of possession and more turnovers.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat. You don’t need to try to score 50 points to win games. When you control possession, the other team can’t score.

See the 2014 and 2016 Cowboys.

I agree. A lot of people look at the Rams, KC or NO and say that's what I want to the Cowboys to be. Well, it's never going to happen. That's not our style of football. We play ball control and the time of poss. game. I would love to see the Cowboys with a offense that was more dynamic and scored huge points every week, but those same offenses kill their defenses and they get gassed by the end of the game. I'll admit, our offense is incredibly boring to watch. The major fatal issue with our offense is if Zeke goes down, we're in trouble. We do need to be more dynamic and not be so focus on one player.

Destroyed the 23rd and 27th ranked defenses by a combined total of 10 points. We are 25th in scoring offense 27th in yardage. I know we can't blame Dak for any of it but stop acting like this offense is even average when it is struggling to stay off the bottom of the barrel.
