Offense sells tickets

So true. Really tired of seeing guys like Dez and Romo (Our supposed leaders) talking about Super Bowls every offseason. This team needs to refocus and start holding themselves accountable. Until that happens we aren't going anywhere. It is unfortunate that our coaching staff can't figure out how to motivate these players. D-ware is a good example of this. At times when he was here I felt like he was only giving 80%, but in Denver he was hungry. It's easy to blame the scheme but maybe we need another hard nosed coach like Parcells. He did a hell of a lot more with a hell of a lot less.

It all starts at the top with Jerry who has no interest in a hard nosed coach like Parcells now that he has his stadium. It was his need for a new stadium that got him to bring Parcells in because it's difficult to get support for a new stadium with a team that's going 5-11 every year. Jerry has a setup at his palace that keeps fans filling up the seats regardless what kind of team the Cowboys have. Great teams start with a solid head coach and if you don't have the coaching it results in what we've seen the past 2 decades. The Cowboys haven't gotten past the second round of the playoffs in 20 years while Denver has reached 4 SB's during that period with 3 championships. As for Ware he gave his all in Dallas his sack totals and pressures speak for themselves. One great player doesn't make a great unit and the reason he's made a significant impact with the Broncos is because he's in the right system and has some excellent players around him. He's not being asked to put up 15+ sacks a year because he's on a team that has other players that can get sacks and pressures.

I said the day he signed with Denver he would make a big impact on that team playing alongside Von Miller. Charles Haley never put up more than 12.5 sacks in a season for the Cowboys and only had a couple of double digit sack seasons but he made a tremendous impact because of the talent around him that he helped free up due to all the attention he got. Ware had some huge seasons in Dallas but his sacks didn't make much of an impact due to the mediocre teams he was stuck on. Despite all the attention he got we didn't have the talent around him that could take advantage. If you put a Von Miller on our defense he wouldn't make near the impact with the Cowboys that he's made in Denver.

Miller had 11 sacks this season which was only 3 more sacks than DLaw produced the second half of the season with the Cowboys but Miller isn't having to do it all. He's had fewer sacks the past 2 seasons than he had his first 2 seasons due to the addition of Ware and others. Ware had games in Dallas where he had 3 sacks but the Cowboys would lose because he was on a mediocre team. Everyone complained that Ware's sacks weren't making an impact but it's difficult for one great defensive player to make an impact when there's holes all around them.

Completely agree with you. Did you see the play where Carolina tried to run a pass to Ginn and he tried to throw back to Newton? I can't help but wonder if that wasn't specifically designed for Dware and his reckless abandon up the field. Fortunately the scheme Denver runs had it covered. Our defensive scheme in Dallas wouldn't allow for success with Miller and Dware no matter what the situation

That's an interesting list.

Here's an adjusted version, giving 2 points for All-Pro, 1 point for Pro Bowl, and accounting for the fact that there are two S, DE, WR, OT, OG, OLB, CB, DT, and sometimes ILB on the field at any one time.

(SB winners only)

QB 14
S 10.5
RB 9
OLB 7.5
TE 7
C 6
CB 5.5
DE 4.5
DT 4.5
OT 4.5
ILB 3.75
WR 3
OG 3

What is the average combined score of the two teams in the Super Bowl over the last twenty one years, including the last win for Dallas? 1002 points

The winning teams scored 557 points, and averaged 26.52 points per contest.

The losing teams scored 388 points with an average of 18.47 points per game.

I hate stats, because they disguise the truth. I also hate bromides that are spouted by the unthinking fan.

Teams that reach the Super Bowl have good defenses. The team that wins normally has a better offense than the opponent has defense.

50 was a defensive battle. Going through the scores over the last twenty one years shows there are defensive battles throughout. But the one take-away is there are far more games that score at or above the NFL average.

Over the last twenty-one years I have yet to see a game where a team has a so-so offense win a championship with the number one defense. NEVER.

No points, no win. Dallas proved that this past season as they still fielded a pretty adept team, that lost because they couldn't score points.

But continue frothing at the mouth that defense wins championships. But also keep in mind Dallas won three championships with a bend don't break defense and an offense that kept the pressure on the other team by moving the chains, moving the ball and scoring bunches of points.

A good offense protects a defense, like this offense did the porous defense of the 2014 Dallas Cowboys. But then some genius decided to break up the band.

TwoDeep...what direction would you go in this draft, for the first round? Tunsil, Elliott, or Treadwell?

I lean toward quarterback. If Wentz is there, I wouldn't hesitate in pulling that trigger. I want nothing to do with Manziel or RGIII. But that isn't popular around these parts.

Treadwell is a trade down. Trading down scares me because someone has a shot to move above you and take what you wanted.

Elliott is a nice player, and he would fit my wish list. But he too may be a short trade down. However, I don't like McFadden, and if this team can have a running game like they did in 2014, I might ignore the too high comments and take Elliot.

I have cooled on Bosa.

Ramsey is interesting. This team could use a top flight corner.

So I am not certain about anything but Wentz. And maybe Lynch if he falls. Goff does nothing for me.

I remember the play Denver has a lot of speed on defense which is why they had it covered. They swarm defensively and with pressure coming from different angles they had Cam's head on a swivel the entire game. They never allowed him to get comfortable and threw his timing off with consistent pressure.

I think you are underselling the DAL D from the 90's SBs. They were 5, 2 and 3 in yards allowed and 1,10 and 9 for points allowed. They were 8/1 and 7/3 from the 70s SBs..

Granted the Offense was a little better on all those teams, but the D was more than bend but don't break
