Damone Clark can be seen pre-snap pointing at #70. Essentially reminding everyone on defense that #70 was reported as eligible.

There's no way #68 is left wide open if he's reported as eligible.

The media is trying to paint this as guaranteed points for Detroit if it was called right when in reality if it was called right #68 would've been covered.
Of all the people posting on The Zone, I may be the most shocked at this outstanding commentary by you.

But as the old joke goes, "Coffee breaks over, everyone back on their heads."

+ 1 million

Would be great if the world can go back to orbiting the sun again now that the “penalty that stopped time” has been resolved lol

Yes.
The official announced the wrong guy.
Plain and simple

He looked at 70, who walked over but said nothing.
He ignored 68, who walked over and announced his eligibilty

But argument stands that he wouldve correctly announced 68, then 68 would probably have been covered

Bad way for a game to end.
It was a trick alignment and the Lions got too tricky by playing a “shell game” with the officials.
They have three offensive linemen near or approaching the official. Right or wrong, The smokescreen came back to bite them.

Don't know what happened. 68 also walked over to the referee, and spoke. Detroit thinks they did everything right, and executed the play as practiced. Look I'm just glad the referee flew the flag I don't care why he threw it. I don't care if it was a mistake, an error on the referee, doesn't matter. They aren't perfect I understand they make mistakes. I'm just thankful this time it took a loss from us, and gave us a win. The funny part after Detroit went up, and seemingly won the game I threw the remote, and left the room. With 26 seconds left we had no shot at getting into field goal range. My wife yelled come back the referee just through a late flag, and it's against Detroit. I didn't believe her, I thought she was yanking my chain because she's an Eagles fan. Detroit could have always kicked the extra point. The game obviously didn't matter to them, or they would've kicked the field goals throughout the game instead of going for it. Or in this case the extra point. They shouldn't be too upset. It was their coaches play calls that cost them the game.

I heard that before the play and when 68 caught it, I figured I must have mis=heard.
Also, the camera crew or maybe it was the network sucked: Too many times they were having discussions about something irrelevent and missed or almost missed the start of a play.

Well said.
It was amazing how
Deep into the celebration the Lions and ESPN announcers got before any mention of a flag came out.
I would have left the
Room too

Correct. Had McCarthy pulled this, he would be getting the blame.

The tripping penalty was a much bigger screw up. Game would have been over if called on Hutchinson

Also illegal formation was called.
exactly right, which negates any conjured-up controversy. The argument is DOA. People in the media need to move on and get over the love affair they have with Detroit. We beat them fairly. Many on this MB need to look at everything in context. Illegal formation makes the entire play null and void. The ref called it right.

Well, hard to argue with that. I clearly heard #70 announced. If that wasn't correct then that's on the Lions to rectify the situation or not throw the ball to the ineligible receiver.
illegal formation negates all this stuff.

Detroit including the coaches heard the announcement on the loudspeaker with 70 being eligible. How come no one on the Detroit side said anything, including the coaches? Looks like they tried to pull a fast one and got a dose.

Someone should have gone straight to the refs and corrected the announcement to 68.

its all moot for several reasons anyway. Illegal formation for starters. The media must look in the mirror and own it.

Notice how much less time is spent on the bogus tripping call that put us in that position to begin. If that call is correct the Lions never even get the chance.

I never saw a replay on that tripping call . Did Hendershot actually trip anyone ?
