Hey? Isn't it legal to line up and punt the ball through the uprights for a field goal? Mat McBriar is a heck of a lot more accurate than Cundiff.

Just food for thought.

Are you serious? I've never heard of that before.

No kidding I would trust McBriar over Cundiff when Cundiff is attempting his first FG in a game. I bet he misses at least half of the time when he lines up for his first attempt in a game.

The circumstances of today's game would have prevented it, but the rule exists...

Digest of Rules

Fair Catch Kick

1. After a fair catch, the receiving team has the option to put the ball in play by a snap or a fair catch kick (field goal attempt), with fair catch kick lines established ten yards apart. All general rules apply as for a field goal attempt from scrimmage. The clock starts when the ball is kicked. (No tee permitted.)

This is the second game a kicker cost us. Cortez cost us the Seattle game with his missed 29 yard field goal and the kickoff out of bounds in the 4th quarter.

If Cundiff can't make a chip shot field goal in Texas Stadium, what'll happen on the road in the playoffs? Bring in Morten Anderson, I say.

Again, I sound like a broken record but if you are going to be involved in all these close games (as I've said many times) you have to have an accurate kicker. You just cannot leave points on the field in the NFL. New England plays the same way we do. They never blow anybody out but all through the game they accumulate points because Vinatieri is automatic, and when they absolutely have to have a 3 at game's end he is always right there. I'm not saying we will ever get a Vinatieri-type but this team needs to sign a proven, veteran kicker in the offseason. This inconsistency (mainly by Cundiff) the last 3 years is not acceptable. This team isn't good enough to overcome leaving points on the field. Say what you want about Bledsoe and others in this game, but this one falls squarely on Cundiff's shoulders. This is not a devestating loss because I think the NYG lose at SEA but we really should be 8-3. The days of finding the Ken Willis' and Chris Boniols are over because Hoffmann is gone. Time for Jerry and Bill to really improve this area if this team is going to have the ability to win in January.

There REALLY are not that many kickers out there that are that much better the Cundiff- and none of them were availble and healthy at the same time. Sucks but that is the way it is- proven GOOD kickers are not available very often. Name one that was PROVEN better then Cundiff that we could have gotten?
I don't know the answer to that but management didn't try to replace Cundiff last offseason because they feel they can get by on the cheap. Obviously this is not the case as the results speak for themselves.

I honestly just sort of sighed in disbelief. I don't remember ever seeing a team lose all of their games because of kicking woes. It's just uncanny.

By the way, I'm not trying to throw all the blame on the kickers. I'm just saying that an argument can be made that they were at fault in every loss.

Apparently, LA went after him on the sideline, so I'd say yes.

If LA came after me I don't think I'd be crying.

Crapping my pants maybe, but not crying.

I hope to hell he was. He blew a chance for the team to take the lead in the fourth quarter of a key game during the stretch playoff run.

Agreed!!! You can't miss 30yrd FG's. They have to be automatic.

Babe and Brad said on the postgame show you must make those kicks. It's hard to understand why the Cowboys don't get a good FG kicker that will stay here and be reliable. Instead you never know if ours will make a 50 yard kick and then miss the chip shot. The Colts have one, the Eagles have one, the Broncos have one. Will the Cowboys ever get a guy like that?

so with all the troubles the team is experiencing they still can't justify hoffman's paycheck?

hoffman was supposed to be the only impediment to my seeing parcells physically throttle an offending kicker. yet i have endured several botched kicks - and still no payoff.

might as well just bring the SOB back...
