I am presuming he meant in this particular game.

i assumed he was talking about today...but still not the thing to say

most coaches worth a crap would have said "we WILL turn it around"

For the next week you're going to hear people calling for a sacrifice. Be it defensive coordinator Brian Stewart, Head Coach Wade Phillips, or a player a la Bobby Carpenter. The thinking goes, if you fire someone it will get the message across to this team. The problem with this approach is twofold. First, you've got to have someone to replace the sacked party that's equitable if not an upgrade. Short of Bill Cowher coming out of retirement, do you really think you're going to find that? Secondly, if losing to Washington, playing poorly against Cincinnati, and losing to Arizona doesn't motivate a team to show up against an average at best St. Louis team, then is there any reason to think that firing or cutting someone will? I will say this though, in his postgame press conference Wade Phillips had that dear in headlights look of a coach knowing his job security suddenly became less than certain. So what is a GM to do?

I've got no idea. I don't have any answers, I don't think anyone does. Is changing the defensive coordinator going to motivate this defense or change the scheme to make it better? It might. But will that motivate an offensive line that is terribly underperforming? Replacing the head coach might do both, but will it get Barber to stop putting the ball on the turf and Witten and Owens to stop dropping passes? The point is this: there are so many problems with this team, this team is sick in so many areas, that there isn't a panacea.

Owner and GM Jerry Jones has amassed all the talent he can-to the point of making a rare midseason trade for WR Roy Williams-to make this team a contender. He has done all that he can do in my estimation, and yet here they are underperforming. Something has to be done, the question is just what? And will it do any good?

An excellent post that sums up my frustration as well. Something must change....but what? Getting beat is one thing, but this was a laugher that takes me back to the Campo era. Sad.

Actually Campo's team played a lot harder than this teams has done they where just over matched talent wise and HC decision making wise

Phillips, Garrett, Stewart, and Read should be flogged and driven from the Land of Cowboys.

I vote to bring in Snoop Dog as head coach to finish the season!

I don't get all the hate for Jason Garrett. Without Romo at the helm, this is clearly a different ball club. If should be obvious to everyone now, we don't have 5 ProBowlers on the offensive line, we have a Pro Bowl QB who can avoid the rush and make those guys look good.

Garrett's side of the ball didn't give up 31 points to a one-win team. He didn't pick the quarterback with the rag arm. They said in pre-game that they slimmed the playbook down 75% for Brad Johnson, what does that tell you?

this team doesnt need a retread. All this young talent needs a guy with all the heart and passion in his body to give it his all. IMO it needs to be a first time coach with alot to prove and the willingness to put organization and team first and players second.

I dont pretend to know who that is, but a retread will not get it done.

I can understand that line of thinking, but I'm in the line of thinking that this team needs a kick in the butt more than anything and Cowher is one of the only guys sitting around doing nothing that could fit that role immediately.

Another guy which is a total retread that I can think of that isn't doing anything in particular at the moment is Jimmy. And who is to say that would be a bad thing if it was agreed upon prior to be simply a clean up job for the remainder of the year. Could work for us again. Might work for him even.

I dont know, my brother made a good point. He said during Hard Knocks, there was a scene where Wade Phillips was addressing the team and players were cutting up, joking around, and one guy got up and started dancing. He just sat there and waited for them to finish. Jason Garret never put up with that (at least it wasnt shown) and seems to be more of the get down to business type. I dont think we need another authoritarian like Parcells, but we need someone who wont fluff EVERYTHING for the players, holds people accountable, and gets the job done. I like Wade, he seems like a really likeable guy, but its obvious the players do NOT respect him. I dont know if Garrets the answer, but maybe he will bring some dicipline and accountibility to this team. We cant replace the whole roster...

I don't see many people defending Wade here.......and for good reason. The wheels have came off this wagon and someone has got to answer for it. Wade just doesn't appear to have what it takes to get it done.

If it was my call I probably wouldn't have had the heart to make him pay for his ticket back home.........but it sure as hell would've cross my mind.

Apart from a select few of us zoners in here, the writing on the wall had been missed by many in here all the way back to preseason.

The concerns about Cupcake the Coach...Concerns about no improvement in tackling...Concerns about penalties...Concerns about inability to make adjustments...Concerns about leadership among the players themselves...Concerns about the defensive schemes and coaching...Concerns that Brad Johnson wasn't fit to be the backup QB...etc...List is long, very few areas to look to bright spots.

And, yet, some are still clinging to 'Romo is coming back', 'Pacman is coming back', 'Felix coming back', etc...The problem isn't there.

The problem has always been from the top on down...Leadership is lacking and it starts from the top...Time for a change otherwise this will get uglier

Soft camps make soft players.

Maybe the Cardinals and Rams weren't 'physical' and 'tough' maybe we're just out of shape and soft.

I dont know how or I would but could someone make a poll on this?
Im very curious....

myself I think he should be fired right after tonights game.
he is way too soft and it is showing in the teams play.
if we just get beat thats one thing but all these turn overs and missed tackles, missed assignments is getting very old...
also Flo has taken a huge step back, Parcells noticed right away you have to stay on this guy but Wade and Houck do not????
