*** Official Jason Garrett Thread ***

I think Garrett did the right thing. What really messed us up was the false start by Smith. From the formation, it looked like the Cowboys were going with a screen before the false start, and by looking at the defense, it was setup to get the first down. After the penalty though, I think Garrett didn't want to risk a turnover and just take our chances with the defense that played pretty well all day, which was another smart play, Had Romo forced an interception, everyone would be calling for his head.

Good post, good perspective.

I've often said that Garrett needs to protect Romo. Yes, we could have thrown. We might have been successful. But imagine the media outcry - not to mention the outcry on this forum - if Romo would have gone back to pass, got hit and fumbled. Then Romo would have been roasted all over again.

I think Garrett understands what's been going on with Romo and his image. So he says, "Why force it. Why put my quarterback in that position. Let's run, punt and ask our defense step up one last time."

It didn't. But these are the Patriots at home. We held them to 20 points. There's a confidence boost even in a loss. And we're far from out of it.

I think the Cowboys build on this loss. I say the Rams are in trouble. And if we can keep Brady in check for most of the game, we can keep Vick, Eli and any other lesser quarterback in check.

It's not how you start, it's how you finish. Disappointed we loss? Yes.
Throwing in the towel? Not on your life.

That shovel pass near the goal line in the 4th? Rhymes with wussy.

That second to last possession when we were playing keepaway and made no real attempt to get a first down? See above.

You can only ask so much of a defense that was surely gassed by the Pats' no-huddle offense.

Incredibly poor red zone play calling considering we had healthy WR's for the first time since the second quarter of the Jets game and their defense was keying on Witten.

Wade's flea infested dog house has a new occupant.

That last red zone trip was bush league garbage. Idiotic. Completely idiotic.

We played a good game on the road against a very good and tough team. We didn't execute a couple of times in the redzone and came away with field goals instead of TD'S. Other than that, we did fine. I don't have any blame for anyone, I am proud of how we played. :star:

What the hell are you talking about? Have you not watched us play much?

We can beat any team in the league, eventually you have to come out with a W's instead shoulda-woulda-couldas!

How is Dez not target in the entire 2nd half?
I don't understand this.

It's either a TD, or PI, or incomplete. I mean, stop over thinking PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. It's not that hard, IT'S NOT THAT HARD. THROW IT UP!!!!

JG showed tonight that he has absolutely no feel for the game. The play calling on that last drive looked like nothing more than a response to the criticism he took after the Detroit game. Like..."OK, you all said I should run more, so here, I'm going to run three straight times" with a total disregard for the flow of the game and what had been working on offense.

Pathetic.

This is my biggest complaint about JG. We couldn't run for ****, yet he calls a run play on 3rd and 13. Rediculous.

This team is not fun to follow. They disappoint and frustrate more than they don't. It's maddening.

You play the game based on what you have witnessed all day.

In this case, the Dallas defense was shutting the New England offense down.

I don't care if you have the Pro Bowl team out there, when the defense is getting the job done and the offense isn't you go with what brought you that far.

Killing the clock and relying on one more stop was the right call. Now, I don't care for the formations they used because they were pretty much big flashing billboards that Dallas was going to run.

With a weak OL, you cannot allow the defense to stack the box. The OL was having trouble blocking 3 and 4 guys but we ask them and a couple of TEs to block 7-8?

Running was the correct call. Telling the Patriots you were going to run was not.

This is one of the biggest complaint I have with JG. He basically advertise what we are going to do. Why not try to run out of pass formation and pass from the run formation more often?

We are not the team from the 90's . We are not good enough to let the other team know what play we are going to run and still get it done.

Great post. My exact sentiments. He coached scared. We can't have that.

Encourage about what? I mean please, they lost again, never never never never be encouraged about a loss man. This team lacks something, and I dont think they will ever find it.

They lack an OL that can run block. You cant blame Garrett for his red zone issues if he doesn't have the personal that can run the ball in the end-zone.

I'll post it here instead;

It is what it is.

Tremendous performance by the defense, and one rotten egg by the offense.

Two weeks to prepare for a defense that has allowed the entire NFL to go up and down the field on them like they are a zipper and we come out with that?

We can go round and round all we want about Garrett but the bottom line is he'll take himself out if we keep this up.

It's amazing what a difference coaching makes, that was a super winnable game.

Jerry Jones is amazing really when you think about it, the Cowboys continue to be popular despite losing big game after big game on national TV, got to give him credit.

Its funny. We were upset because he wasn't conservative in the Lions game now the complaint is that he's too conservative. lol

You have to know your situation. Last week we had a huge lead against a young team. You run the clock there This week we had a very slim lead against one of the most clutch QBs of all time. You either get the first or die trying becuase if you dont, you're dead anyway

You think the situations are the same? If you are up by 20+ points then you can definitely play conservative. If you are leading in the 4th and are inside the redzone and facing Mark Sanchez, then maybe you play conservative.

If you are facing Brady and he still has 2 timeouts and 3+ minutes. You do not try to run the clock out. I will take my chances against the 32nd ranked defense rather than give the ball back to one of the best QBs of all time. Rob Ryan is good, but come on.
This is pro football, not Madden. Your facing Belichek, one of the greatest D coordinators and coaches of all time. I don't care what there ranking is, you play the game a certain way and based off our bone headed QB, you can't risk the mistake. He throws a pick and it is ran back, like 2 other recent games, everyone is saying what then??

JG didn't trust Romo in that 3 and out drive. That's all it came down to it.

What a joke.
THIS PEOPLE^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS!!! That was the biggest pile of I have seen in a long time. Did Garret think this would make Rob look like the bad guy if they gave up the winning TD to Brady. Well Rob does NOT look like the bad guy Jason...you do!!!!!!!!!

It cannot be said enough that New England came into the game with the WORST DEFENSE in the NFL.

That's the WORST. DEFENSE. IN. THE. NFL.

WORST

DEFENSE

IN

THE

NFL

I thought we were playing the 85 Bears.

WORST DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE, folks. Ivy league.

Get the ball to your play makers. Stop trying to get cute and out think the other guy. Dez is a beast for any defender one on one. How we can go 2 or 3 red zone possessions and not give a play maker like Dez the ball is beyond me and unforgivable.

Examples of horrible play calling.

Game on the line. You have to get some first to run out the clock and keep the ball out of the Brady's hands.

You run the ball with your impressive 2.6 yards per carry running game. Talk about not know your strength and weaknesses.

24 pt lead vs. a 3 pt lead.
