Before american football there is real football. The worlds oldest and most popular sport. I was reading the euro 2008 thread and I can't believe how many people have been watching it, or atleast keeping up with it. I decided to make a thread that talks only about this sport. Any league in the world. England, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, etc....Anything about soccer or football(whatever you want to call it) can be put on here. Talk about friendly matchups. Talk about international tournaments like the champions league, libertadores, etc... Talk about certain country's leagues. Playoffs, champions, games, anything about soccer or football allowed here. I hope we can talk alot about soccer(it's my favorite sport) and have alot of intelligent conversations. More than likely there aren't many soccer experts here but anything you want to know about soccer I'm your'e man. I don't think I know everything but I do know alot.

Ok-- why is soccer so flippin' BORING?? What does anybody see in it??

I can understand the pleasure you might find in playing the sport, but watching it on TV is about as exciting as watching the Greater Greensboro Open on the Golf Channel...

Just like any sport. I mean there isn't anything exciting about a 2 yard run or pass. An incomplete pass, oh yeah thats real exciting. Fact is soccer is like any sport. It has its great games and boring games. Great moments, players, etc....You just need to watch it for more than 5 minutes. Maybe it's because americans don't exactly have a high attention span.

You probably should have made this thread in August when the leagues start up again.

in the mean time, besides euro talk, I have to say I'm pretty excited about Arsenal this season.

Flamini leaving is a huge loss, and I don't know who can fill that DM role (Diabby?).

but Nasri, Ramsey, and Vela should make our attack even better. I hope Hleb stays, but if he leaves, we have the talent to replace him.

I just hope RVP can last a season, and I hear that Eduardo is recovering very well.

Also, Eboue still sucks.

#1 I think barber makes some 2 yard runs pretty exciting like in the pats game.

#2  maybe us Americans just think Basketball,Baseball and mens Football not futbol is more exciting than watching a bunch of sissy's kick a ball around for 2 hours.

How baseball players are not sissy's or basketball players are not(Who flop all over the court) and soccer players are in beyond me, and actually an arrogant statement by the typical brainwashed American.

The rest of the world is obviously not wrong... soccer is quite fun to watch.

But like any sport you need to know the nuances of it and grasp some idea of the players involved before it becomes true entertainment.

FC Dallas plays close to my house and I thinking of grabbing season tickets.

baseball and basketball players are sissy's too. but not as much as soccer players. baseball players get hit with 90+ mph baseballs. soccer players use there heads to hit soccer balls. basketball players fall on hardwood floors and soccer players fall on grass. the only so-called "exciting" points in a soccer game are when a team scores a goal if they do at all. Soccer is boring and i'd rather watch golf than that sissy sport known as futbol. are you an American?

Whatever. your preferences are your preferences, but why would you want to impose your preferneces on others?

How much soccer have you actually watched over your life? Atleast they breathe heavy. Unlike golfers. I don't think I have actually seen a golfer break a sweat. Ever.

just dont give these guys any attention. there's no need to have to justify or explain why you like something when the other person isn't going to change their mind.

You've got to be kidding. There are plenty of out of shape professional golfers on the tour that sweat up a storm. Of course they would sweat in a nicely air conditioned room.

I grew up playing soccer and love playing the game. From my own myopic view, soccer was the second most strenuous to play right behind football. Basketball was third and baseball was a distant fourth.

Football is my favorite sport to watch thanks in large part to the Cowboys and was my favorite sport to play in high school. Still I really enjoy soccer and fortunately can still play in recreational leagues. Unfortunately, I don't have that type of opportunity with football. It would be kind of cool.

I also enjoy watching soccer. I don't expect everyone to like the sport. Nor do I expect everyone to like football. That is why it didn't work as a league in Europe. People either get the sport, whether that is soccer, football, basketball, baseball or whatever or they don't. We all have our preferences and it is doubtful those preferences can be forced on someone else. A big WNBA fan is never going to get me to watch the games. So we just move on and enjoy what we like and wish other well for what they like.

Something I have noticed about the NFL's failure in Europe. It doesn't help that it just wasn't good football. Kind of like the MLS here in the U.S.. It isn't good soccer. The top players and leagues are not in the U.S. It is the AA of soccer.

I actually enjoy watching the occasional soccer game... But i know you didn't just knock basketball players for "flopping all over the court."

Most of the notorious floppers in the NBA are International players, and they probably took lessons from watching soccer players all their lives. There is NOT ONE group of professional athletes that flops as much as soccer players.

Does anyone know if Ronaldo is going to Real Madrid or not? At first it was just a rumor but now it seems more likely.

he wants to, but the asking price may be too high even for real madrid to go through with it.

i hope he stays at ManU. i want Arsenal to win the league title next year with no excuses coming from ManU fans.

this is actually the first time in a while I can remember Arsenal spending the big $$$

Only an idiot would think soccer players are sissy. Soccer is a contact sport. Baseball is easily the softest sport known to man. Basketball, there is contact, but you aren't getting slide tackled every other play.

But hey, usually a sport known as the "worlds game" with over 450 million supporters speaks for itself. It is the best and most popular sport on the planet. Even though I don't agree with it. I like football and basketball more than soccer. But to say soccer is boring is just arrogant, especially if your a fan of baseball, the most worthless sport on the planet.

It never fails, start a thread about soccer hoping to talk to fellow soccer fans, get ready for the posts from people telling you its boring and they dont like it, as if we really needed this amazing groundbreaking sentiment.

Bigsoccer.com, talk about the game without these people. I hate the NBA, but I dont go in every basketball thread and talk **** about it.
