this is actually the first time in a while I can remember Arsenal spending the big $$$

Dont hold your breath. Flamini left over money, Nasri STILL hasnt been signed, and the rumours are abound that they are too cheap to pay Adebayor what he wants.

It never fails, start a thread about soccer hoping to talk to fellow soccer fans, get ready for the posts from people telling you its boring and they dont like it, as if we really needed this amazing groundbreaking sentiment.

Bigsoccer.com, talk about the game without these people. I hate the NBA, but I dont go in every basketball thread and talk **** about it.
It happens in just about every thread about a sport that's not football.

Like the notorious floppers, American soccer fans are the biggest whiners of any group of sports fans.

i thought the nasri deal is 99% done. Flamini is a big loss, but I'm not too worried about Adebayor. We've got Vela coming in. I'm worried about Hleb leaving, but at least we managed to get Ramsey. he may be young, but Wenger knows what to do with young players.

It was also just reported that arsenal is going to sign Amaury Bischoff from Werder Bremen as a possible replacement for Flamini. Although it's not the big $$$, this guy is supposed to be pretty good.

Now RUGBY is a real mans sport. No pads or helmets and you can still tackle the guy. Actually with all the sissy rules the NFL has now, you could make a serious case that Rugby is now the real he mans sport.
Of course they are nowhere near as big and strong, but still pretty good size.

Your not worried about losing a 30+ goal scorer because they have a 19 year old mexicant coming in?

I'm not worried about him leaving. I don't think he will.

Besides, Adebayor is good, but I don't think he's THAT good. lot of those 30+ goals were set up by the midfield. If he leaves, I think Wenger can buy a suitable replacement.

I'm more worried about the DM role. Bischoff is young and will be on the reserves for a while.

And I'm really disappointed by his attitude. He's had one good year. That's all. Doesn't he have any loyalty to Wenger? Wenger made him who he is. He's under contract, and if he performs like that one more year, he'll get his money. Remember, he did have a drop-off in the final couple of months of the season when we really needed him after Eduardo got injured.

Ronaldo is like Terry Glenn, almost done. I wouldn't pay a fortune for him.

Brazil has 5 or 6 better, younger players.

Wenger is completely losing the plot. Signing yet another teenager? What drugs is he on? I cant wait to see this kid play well and move to Barca by the time he is 24.

The funny thing is if you talk to people who play or watch Rugby, they all think that American Football players are wimps, "Cause they can't play without pads & helmets". :banghead: And just like the guys on here that slate Soccer, they don't take the time to understand and appreciate the finer points of the game.

In Europe we grow up watching & Playing Football (Soccer), and most people agree that the biggest problem with the game now is the players over acting.

The thing is that if you can con the referee into booking or sending off one of the opposition your team then has a huge advantage.

Imagine that in the NFL every late hit meant the offending player was cautioned by the officials, and a second offence meant that they were ejected from the game (sent off) and then banned from the next match.
How long do you think it would be before the players started to play act, in an attempt to get the other teams best players out of the game?

Arsenal's biggest problem is keeping the big name players they hame, because of their very tight wage structure.

They seem to be slipping neatly into the 'Next years team' bracket, as they always have a team full of players that are just reaching their prime.

But as you rightly say, when they hit it, those players move on to bigger clubs.

The other probnlem they have is with the size of their squad, once they lose a few players, their team is much weaker.
Unlike Chelsea an Man Utd, who can replace most of their team without it having a big influence.

FWIW, I think the title will be between Man U & Chelsea again next season.

As for me, I support Swindon Town, a team in the third tier of English Football, now called League One (?)

there's a reason American football players wear pads, with the kind of hits they take people could die without. Rugby players do tackle but they don't HIT like NFL players hit, if they did they would wear pads too

Have you played? I have played both, and believe me, Rugby players can HIT. The sport itself isn't conducive to the highlight reel hits because you don't have three tiers of defense, and you typically have a run at the opposing player. In fact, the player with the ball is usually the one initiating contact.

Believe me, Rugby players can hit just the same as football players. It's just not as common, and can often be a bad idea.

Not really true.

I have played both.
Rugby hits are generally with much less open space and is really more of a grapple then a knockout shot. But you do get more black eyes and busted lips. I have seen a few best of hits shows for AFL or rubgy and its clear there are some nasty collisions but they are pretty uncommon because style of play doesn't lend itself to it.

What they do have is a ridiculously big field to play on.

I was a star in rugby for about 15 minutes every game and I'd get past the defense and score easily. After that is was time to just stand in the scrum and hold people because I was so winded. I had some 50 year old guy chase me down once... I was so glad he finally caught me, because I was dead tired. That was like a 90 yard run.

But again each sport is different and has different nuances, you enjoy them or you don't. I personally think a lot of sports are dumb but I am not going to open my mouth and sound ignorant about sports like cricket I have never played. If those sports had threads I'd stay away. :)

Football players are taught from the earliest stages to get big hits. It is the goal of any defender. I have neck issues to this day because of that.

I wanted to support Chelsea because I like some of their players but then Tom Hicks bought the team and I hate him. He is a crappy owner now in 3 sports:(

I followed PSG a bit but really haven't found a team I can catch on tv enough to follow faithfully.

Tom Hicks bought Liverpool, but you can continue hating Chelsea anyway. Nobody likes Chelsea. After their owner gets tired of his little toy, they'll go back to being the crap club they were before.

Umm....how does that make what I said "not really true". You basically just rephrased what I was trying to say.

I have played them both as well.
