I just got around to watching House of the Dragon, season 2. It is certainly better than season one but I just do not think it is anywhere near as good as GoT first 4 seasons.
I was very disappointed with the final episode which was a letdown compared to the buildup towards to the expecting ending. I think the show relied too much on dragons flying around. I like how they the it into the period of GoT every now and then with flashes of the future, or events that explain some thing in GoT.
Part of the problem is the main characters don't really move the needle for me. I kind of see what maybe the writers want us to think about these characters, but it is not working for me. Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. It changes back and forth but that doesn't help the viewers relate. Maybe it doesn't matter? There are no good guys or bad guys, just powerful people struggling to retain their power with all their human flaws?
HotD seems to have fallen into that trap of building up to a spectacular end. Season 2 leads up to an expectation of a spectacular beginning of season 3, but will we finally get the war of dragons they have been leading us to believe is inevitable? or will season 3 beginning by turning down the heat and then build it up again for season 4, which I believe is supposed to be the final season?
I admit after watching season 1 and the first episode of season 2, I was going to skip show. But I have run out of things to watch so I started it again. I am not disappointed, but I am on guard for disappointment.
