The only reason a team like Houston or Denver would not offer a high pick for Romo is his health.

Maybe the answer is to get a conditional 1st in 2018 depending on how many games he plays or if he gets the team to the playoffs. Which, if healthy, he absolutely would in both cases.

A renegotiated deal that gives Romo more guaranteed money, he has 0 right now and also gives DAL immediate and substantial cap relief........in return DAL gives a say to Romo in picking his new team

DAL gets less of a draft pick by narrowing the field but they don't have to wait until June 1st to make a deal and they get the pick in 2017 not next year....plus they save 13m on the cap in March when they need it

A potential deal would have Romo lowering his base salary to 1m with a 10m trade activated option bonus and 250k a game roster bonus.......all guaranteed........also 5m of his 10m 2018 base salary would be guaranteed but not his 250k a game roster bonus

If traded he gets 15m and if he stays he gets 5m to be the backup

Or he stays put and gets 19m and veto power on any trade. Why would he do any favors for this team? They do him none

Are you talking extension?
I think that makes the most sense to get his cap figure down.
It may narrow the field, but I actually dont think so.
Romo could always retire so the team trading for him would have to consider that anyway.
So Romo gets input either way.
This would be like an extension and not a restructure...... he is due 3/54m right now but none is guaranteed.......this would give him 2/30m with 20m guaranteed if traded and 2/19m if he stays with 10m guaranteed

I might make that trade honestly.... risky, however..

They might take it..

With Jaylon returning, we could find ourselves with a strong defense under such a scenario... but our secondary would still cost us big moments

Secondary won't have to cover as long when we got a healthy watt and Smith back there rushing the passer. I honestly think that 1 move would put us in the sb

but only 10m guaranteed......it would be mutually beneficially like any good deal

Romo gets money and choices and DAL gets picks and cap relief OR a great backup(you get 2m back for cutting Sanchez type)

We'd probably have to overpay Revis and he wouldn't provide more than Claiborne or Carr would. I'd rather have Claiborne and Carr for the same price as Revis. Any money should be spent on the D-line. No sense overspending on free agent CBs or wasting early-round picks on CBs. Bring back Claiborne and Carr, get Jaylon Smith up to health, and rebuild the D-line. We need two star players on the D-line - a DT to pair with Collins and a RDE.

Right, a conditional pick may be the best route either way to maximize his value since they can't make a trade official until June 1st anyways

After watching D. Ware walk away without compensation Jerry won't allow Romo to go the same.

Jerry aint going to trade Romo to some NFL wasteland like Cleveland because they offer a high pick. He is not going to do that to Romo, if you listened to the way Jerry talks about Romo its like how a dad talks about a son almost.

Jerry is also being serious when he talks about how Romo is elite like Rogers and can make plays like Rogers. He aint saying this about Dak, he said Dak probably had the greatest rookie season a QB has ever had and ended it there. In Jerry's mind, Romo is a lot closer to Rogers than Dak is. Now many will disagree with this, but it doesn't really matter what all of us think, like he said, he is the only one making the decision so it is what he thinks that is important here.

Those of you still hoping for a first round pick for Romo it's not going happen. That's not being realistic. The best you can expect is a third with maybe a conditional pick. His age and too many concerns about his health for anything more than that. We can banter this around until we're blue in the face but in all likelihood he's going to end up being released.

I was discussing this with some of my friends earlier today. I would give Romo and our 1st round pick to the Texans for JJ watt. That would put us over the hump. And Texans had #1 defense this year with watt missing the entire season so they've seen they can function good on defense without him.
I would do Romo for Clowney straight up......but we would have to wait until June 1st for cap purposes

Alright, so lets accept reality. Either Romo won't be wearing the star come September 2017 or we've lost our minds..

So does he leave as a free agent or via a trade?

Well, based on recent QB deals, a trade seems quite feasible...

To me the most realistic trade that I am supporting is Romo for Revis + 2017 second rounder.

I think this deal is feasible and desirable for both sides. Claiborne and Jones have the physical talent, but have never had anyone to learn from in the NFL. This trade could make us a dynasty, if Claiborne and Jones develop.
I like the idea but Revis is done or not interested......the Jet fans hate him again

For the millionth time....releasing him is the stupidest thing we could do

We get no extra cap relief, we tear up a top draft pick and we help a potential playoff opponent for free

You don't hold Romo hostage, that would be the dumbest thing in the world to do. You do not treat a player that has been the face of the franchise for 14 years like that. You think Romo is going to make another little speech and be all fine and dandy about standing on the sideline watching Dak all season? I highly doubt that and when Romo starts talking to the media about it, don't think guys like Witten and others are not going to be on his side.

That is what would tear the lockerroom apart.

You can still let him negotiate with other teams but you don't release him for nothing....the new team has to pay.....we screwed up when we cut Ware.......12 teams were lining up to sign him

Declare that he is our backup and wait for training camp injuries to drive up his value. He has been incredibly well paid, and as much as I respect him, the team deserves to get the greatest trade value out of him regardless of where he goes.

sit Dak next year, let Romo start (until he gets injured since everyone is so sure it's going to happen)

Don't laugh, but I think Jerry might actually be considering an "open competition" for the QB job next year. Let Romo and Dak go at it and let the best man win. If Romo wins the job, Dak is told that he is the backup.

Jerry would view it as what is fair. Romo stepped aside and let Dak start all season so now Dak steps aside and lets Romo start all season, or at least until he gets hurt.

I know you guys are going to say this is just fantasy and is not going to happen and that all this talk by Jerry is just him trying to drive up the trade value.............but what if its not?
