One of Jerry’s many weaknesses as a GM is his inability to let go of players before it’s painfully obvious that their value is already gone.

When your GM hangs onto key players too long, the team ends up constantly chasing needs rather than being proactively ahead of them. Jerry loves his players.

The best GMs in the NFL avoid getting attached to players so they can remain objective. Because their job depends on it. In the Dallas front office, no one named Jones’ job depends on winning.

Bass could just be the guy. He needs work and experience, but don't count him out at LG

Tyler was drafted to play LT but we continue to make the same mistakes. Tyron is not durable enough to be relied on.
What does that even mean? It’s football…Biadasz, Martin and even Tyler have missed games this season. Are they all unreliable and need to be replaced? Miami gave Terron Armstead an 85m contract last year… he’s missed more games than Tyron in 2 fewer seasons. The Saints are currently having issues with his replacement getting whipped. You don’t walk away from someone the caliber of Tyron till it’s absolutely necessary… missing 4 or 5 games is a hell of a lot better than 17 games!

I don’t care if Tyron is an outlier, point is: he’s missing games and it negatively impacts DALLAS. Time to find a replacement on the OL.
The point your missing is the next guy is likely to miss games too. It comes with the position.

I love Tyron. He was a dominant machine here for years. One of the best LTs in football. But his injuries make him unreliable. It's almost a given that he's going to spend time on the bench during the season now. And today, we find out he's out a 2nd game and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he's out a few more.

Cowboys need to move past him as painful as that is. If the plan is to move Tyler to LT, then great. Go find a legit LG this offseason. Draft a stud.

But counting on Tyron at this point is just fools gold. Our GM is a moron if he convinces himself next season will be different.
This identical post was made about 4 years ago. Go figure.

Here is the best course of action IMO.

1. Talk to Tyron this off-season about being a swing tackle. If he is willing to sign for low $ to keep his family here, great. If not, you’ll probably get a decent comp pick for him.

2. Move Tyler to LT. He is really good and is probably better than anything you’d find in the draft. You also have legit starter contenders for a LG backfill already on the roster (Bass, Ball).

3. At this point, C and G have roughly the same talent level, so you draft BPA IOL in the 1st (unless some god-level LB is there)

4. Cross train Bass to be your backup C

5. Draft at least one other OL in the mid-late rounds

NOTE: Don’t sleep on Josh Ball as a Guard next year. He played REALLY well in that position in the preseason. Absolutely sucks as a tackle, but really really good handling stunts and plays with power as a guard

2024 Line probably looks like:
LT - Tyler Smith, Asim Richards (or Tyron)
LG - 1st round Pick, Bass/Ball
C - Biadasz, Bass
RG - Martin, Ball/veteran
RT - Steele, Mid-rounder (or Tyron)

I didn't understand why in this past game we didn't put Asim Richards in. he showed he can play and play better than Edoga who is a guard. perhaps they wanted someone with little more seasoned. I say, this game forget edoga and go with Richards. if he bombs in the middle of the game, then just put edoga in. I haven't seen much of a difference.

and then we know if we have a LT or not.

and perhaps, another option would be to move Smith out, since he was really good at it last year and we find a guard. easier and less costly.

There's like 9 first-round tackles next year. It's probably the easiest year ever to find a LT.

Poor guard play is more crippling than poor tackle play in today's NFL. If you have a guy who can be dominant there, keep him there.
This and they have already stated they want Tyler Smith at LG.

Yeah…they have not really been as ‘forward thinking’ as they need to be….it’s been more ‘wishful thinking’

Agree…again…wishful thinking vs forward thinking

Definitely. Tyron is one of our GOATS on the OL, but something needs to be done.

Either draft a LT early or put Tyler there and leave him there.
The Cowboys will probably be drafting at the end of the round again so moving Tyler to LT and drafting a OG late in the first is probably the better move. good OGs will drop that low, good LTs do not get past many teams.

I haven’t looked that hard at tackles yet, but I am seeing only 2-3 with more potential than Tyler at LT. Not to mention, the best ones will probably be gone if Dallas is in the bottom half again. Guards will fall, preferably one with LT/G potential. I’m all for drafting a LT early as long as he can play as well as Tyler at least.

I don’t really care either way, as long as two of the first three picks are O linemen.

LT and 3 tech. Both needed badly.

We’re fine there but we should address the OL just about every chance we get.

I’d argue that corner is needed now too.

Emanuel Forbes would be nice.

Osa is playing really good.

Overshown was a big loss. We need him.

A corner, more Offensive linemen, maybe a future replacement for Demarcus Lawrence..

This is a deep QB draft. I’d be fine looking at that position too.
