Didn't have a chance to participate in the last few Ogletree threads, so I'm starting my own.

I'd like to read every single member's opinion on him in this thread.
Based on what little we've seen so far, what do you think?
What will his role be this year?
What will his future with the Cowboys be?

I don't follow College Football like I used to. Unlike some posters here, I don't have pet cat rookie players. I have no fan affiliation with a particular college and could care less who makes this team or succeeds with this team.

I just want the Cowboys to be the best team it can be.

Now with all that said, I like to say I'm extremely impressed with Ogletree.

Sometimes a guy just jumps out at me and makes me say wow! Where the hell did he come from and does he have any siblings we can draft.

I seldom come on here and endorse any particular rookie or other young unproven player with a strong opinion of what he is or will be .

I did this with Romo in Aug of 2006. Now I know that means nothing in relation to Ogeltree and I'm not looking for a cookie or any type of credit for getting on the Romo bandwagon early.

What I am saying is that Ogletree has given me a similar WOW feeling this summer as Romo did in 2006.

I think he has a chance to be a real good player for us. Perhaps even this year. I'm actually a little excited that Hurd and Miles aren't 100% healthy.

It will give Ogletree a chance to see some playing time.

He looks like a guy with a bunch of talent that got lost in the shuffle due to issues beyond his control in college.

I think he has a chip on his shoulder to prove he belongs. And those are the kind of guys you want on your team.

Babe Laughenberg thinks that he will contribute this year and I assume he gets some of his info from coaches and Jason Garrett in particular. This isn't the norm for wr so I think he might be an inactive for awhile.

I'll sum my opinion up in a few bullet points:

- hated on him because Zoners compared him to Amendola
- realized he was nothing like Amendola (game vs SF)
- ate my crow, braised on a bed of sautéed rice pilaf and a side of steamed asparagus
- think he's a potential huge addition on offense, possibly eventually pushing Austin and Hurd into competition for the final spot next year

that's it!

Ogletree has every chance to supplant Austin and Hurd as the #3 receiver. Speedy Austin can't stay healthy, and Hurd may be #4 when he comes off the injury list.

Don't forget that he's been playing a lot of snaps in real games the last 3 years - and Austin and Hurd have been fighting for limited reps outside of practice and preseason. This is a small edge that could mean Ogletree is better able to contribute right away this year. I'd be getting healthy quickly if I was Hurd and Austin.

He doesn't "wow" you in any one area, and maybe that's part of the reason he slipped through cracks.

While the Darrius Heyward-Beys of the world get all the attention, a guy like Ogletree could turn out to be the better pro. It happens sometimes.

I see a guy with average size, pretty good speed and quickness, a good route-runner with good hands.

While we've watched a guy like Miles Austin develop to some degree over the past 3 years, and watch a guy like Isaiah Stanback fail to develop, Ogletree seems like more of a natural football player, a natural receiver.

I think he'll really push Hurd and Austin for playing time immediately and will be pushing Crayton next year (if not before).

I'd say he's probably at least a year or two away from challenging a healthy Austin or Hurd.

A smart guy with good hands. He runs extremely crisp routes for a rookie in his first training camp. He doesn't seem to posses great speed but he has a nice short area burst. He gets open with his quickness and precise routes. He always knows where to be and what to do... which gives the QB confidence in him. That is a big thing and a major reason why Romo has been touting Ogletree.

He had an injury as a sophmore and came back to have mediocre numbers his junior year. We now know that was because of the offense and QB at UofVA. He clearly is a talented guy and if he had been playing at UofFLA or UofTexas, he likely would have been a high round pick.

To put it in short: We got very, very lucky. We probably have a 10 year WR in Ogletree who will help this team win many games.

He reminds me very much of a young Marvin Harrison. VERY much.

Austin's not injured, and Hurd's been the story of camp. He's not slipping down the depth chart because of whatever Ogletree did last night.

I'm not saying Ogletree will move ahead of Austin and Hurd on the depth chart, but will not be suprised if it happens. The biggest knock I have on him at this time is his blocking ability in the running game.

I've said this over the past couple of weeks....IMO Ogletree will be in the lineup a lot this year. He might be our best route runner, outside of Witten. I have this feeling about this kid. And no it's not the Amendola, Rambo, etc. feeling. He has skills. He reminds me of Tori Holt.

I think he will take Austin's job away....Austin, God love him, is just not good at cuts. His game is downfield.

I will be interested to see how we use him....or most importantly to us Cowboys fans....will we use him. You know how the powers that be work in this organization, ie. Leaving Felix on the bence, dueling starting CB's.

I am also interested to see what he can do downfield....he supposedly has this 4.3 speed.

I cannot wait to see......we need a Colston for a change....we are due!

I don't want to crack on Ogletree, b/c I like the player a lot and for a rookie WR he's played really well, but he's a long, long way from being in the class with either Hurd or Austin.

Chances are good he'll improve a lot, like most WRs, from this season to next, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him push to be a contributor next year, especially with Austin/Hurd's status uncertain going into next offseason. For now, I'm happy to have quality depth at the position where we really go 5 deep all of a sudden, and all of the players are good team guys.

Ogletree is a breath of fresh air. We needed one of the backup WRs to step up and show something and he has done that. He already looks as polished as Hurd and Austin, but I realize we have only seen him against second and third stringers with the exception of the SF game. I hope he does see some real game action and not due to injury either.

He has every chance to supplant them, but no he won't.

As good as Ogle is he needs to watch and learn for a year. He ain't gonna go ahead anybody except Stanback.

But, you gotta love this kid.

My opinion from the first week of training camp -- not much has changed.

* Outside of our top 4 receivers, the only one that even has a remote chance of making the team is Kevin Ogletree. Romo seems to like him as a target. Heck, all of the QBs did, probably because he gets open and has good hands. Give him another season to gain some confidence and some strength and he'll be a legit receiver.

Well I informed everyone when Dallas signed Olgetree back in April that he would have a very good chance (being modest here, really said he would make the team but who cares right...) of making the team.
