ogletree

He's gonna have to play lights out, and he'll first have to start by learning the playbook.
i dont think that roy doesnt know the playbook? are you thinking of martyb?

I remember romo saying something like ogletree is a player during last years training camp. That's already a good sign showing the report ogletree has built with limited playing time. I think the trust between a qb and wr is the most important aspect of the passing game, and that's something ogletree already has over Roy.

He reminds me of a bigger Terry Glenn which would be nice piece opposite of Austin if Roy Williams doesn't work out...

He and Romo never seemed to be on the same page. Romo would throw one way, he would run another.

i think roy had a problem with route depth and being in the place in the route that romo wanted him to be unless you are talking about the routes that depend on coverage reads in which case they just need to get on the same page about what they see in coverage

yeah but don't we have a prototype complex here in dallas? 6'3"
215 seems to be the minimum with glenn being the exception. maybe otree is the exception too i just wish i knew what the organization thought.

how crazy would it be to have an UDFA throwing to two UDFA out wide and producing though?

There once was a receiver in Dallas by the name of Terry Glenn. I think Ogletree compares very well with him.

I will say this.

Babe Laufenburg said he is starting material and "has it"

Every player Babe has raved about has worked out like he said.

It is a very good sign.

That's definitely encouraging.

Given all the props I've read about Kevin Ogletree, his snaps increasing at season's end and Tony Romo supposedly really liking him, I'm actually a little disappointed by what I saw.

KO basically only caught screen passes and his production didn't increase at all when his snap count did.

Ogletree and Patrick Crayton were both getting roughly the same amount of snaps as Roy Williams at season's end.

Yet Ogletree was the least productive of the three, even fan favorite Martellus Bennett caught more passes in the playoffs than he did.

Am I wrong to have expected more?

KO was only active for one game before November, so he should've been pretty fresh for the stretch run.

I still feel Ogletree's0 upside is high, I'm just surprised we didn't see more from a player we hear such good things about.

you have to remember that there's more that goes into. Just because a WR is in the game doesnt mean he's one of the early reads most the time he's been like the last read unless they had some play specifically made for him. There were a few times in the Saints game where KO was open but it went to another WR because of the progression romo was going through. I'm really excited to see how much further he's come along once the camps start

Whenever I think of Ogletree I think of how dangerous he is on screens, and I also remember his sideline catch. That was the most impressive catch of the season IMO.

That sticks out for as well. He showed a lot of what you really want to see in a WR on that play.

I fairly certain he didn't drop a pass. I'm also fairly certain the success ratio on pass thrown his way was high.

I think he has it.

I can't think of a pass that he dropped either and if he didnt catch it it was because Romo either under or over threw him

Mods change the thread title so this looks a little more legit.

Kevin Ogletree will be next years Miles Austin.

Just like last year when I predicted Miles would breakout and be the #1 receiver, I expect Ogletree to break out and push Roy and Pat for playing time. He's light years better than Hurd (maybe not as a special teamer).

But from the conversation I had with Tony's father - this team is very high on him being a starter in the future. They say he's uncoverable in practice (he faces Jenkins and Newman mind you), catches everything, gets behind the defense, and works very hard. He's the reason why Jerry and Stephen aren't too worried about the WR position. But the reason we have to draft someone to push Hurd or Crayton for their jobs is because God forbid, if Miles Austin went down we would have a very slow receiving core that doesn't get much separation.

I would love so much having an undrafted quarterback throwing to two undrafted receivers, a former college QB, and a TE than used to play DE in college.

Awesome.

Babe said in an interview that he's gotten behind the defense several times last year when we brought him in the game, and either our protection brokedown or Romo went elsewhere with the ball.

Which reminded me of the 07 Giants game when we brought Miles in with fresh legs and he absolutely burned R.W. McQuarters but our protection broke down and Romo didn't have time to find him on a walk in 60+ yard TD. Ogletree had a few moments like that last year.

Anyone else getting aroused thinking of Ogletree's potential, or is it just me?

I think it's hard to pin him with a role rightnow. At least for us as fans. We haven't seen everything the coaches get to see.

BUT, i think we can all agree that we want to see this kid out on the field as often as possible with the offense in 2010

TO may not have been a great route runner but he was as good as you can be at it without being extremely shifty.
TO was one of the best route runners the game has ever seen
