He's a 4th round FS from a small school. That's a long shot. Anyone not understanding that is dumb. We do however have now three young guys who can compete for the job, so that is a positive.

I don't think spending 8 million for one of the top players at his position is a bad investment at all. He's easily one of the top 3 safeties in the NFL right after Ed Reed and Troy P......If anything 8 mill is a steal for a player of his caliber.

Ball will be ok. And we have Kawsi and Hamlin in the background although I think Hamlin is more of a SS. Kawsi will eventually beat Ball out although that is likely to be next year at the earliest.

In our system of playing the man and not the ball I'm not sure OJ would have had a chance to make all of those picks some people think he'd get.

And 8 mil a year is a lot when we have other players that need to be locked up first like Miles for instance.

Not really it's a glorified popularity contest. That's why whenever a team has a really good season they get a high number of players in the pro bowl like the 07 cowboys and 13 pro bowlers.....However, keep thinking that pro bowl = good players you'll get far in that thinking.
