I don't swear muther...

Then you need to find yourself a west Texas boy, and hire him to help you fix it...

West Texas boys are the best cussers in the world... oh, they (we) don't use any words you haven't heard before, it's all in the creative way they (we) string 'em together...

And a good west Texas cussin' rant always starts out the exact same way:

"You MISERABLE, rotten..." :D

I can't believe you've actually tried to fix a computer without cussin' it... I'm sure that's one of the things they teach you in IT class, that those damned things just DESERVE to be cussed every once in a while...

Thanks everyone...but nothing worked, even with a direct connect to the modem.

The computer is officiallly dead. Well, not all of it, but....

if you have your windows cd, here's what i'd do next.

control panel / networking
remove everything. your adapter, protocols and so forth
control panel / system / device manager
remove your NIC adapter. if you have several, remove them all

reboot. it should say finding new hardware and ask to use existing drivers or reload - reload.

Well, Iceberg, it's officially RIP!

Last night I did several things that removed the .NET error and it booted up several times. All seemed good except no internet connection.

Now, this morning I tried to boot up and all that came up was the wallpaper...no icons, no nothing. No mouse, no nothing...

So...I guess it's a done deal now.

To bad, because not I cannot even recover anything that I had saved, which I guess is no big deal because I did not have anything way important.

So, I guess I will just reload Windows XP and start from scratch and just play around and see what goes on.

The only thing about reloading Windows is that I must register it before 30 days are up otherwise Windows will stop working....however, if I cannot get onto the net after I reload, then what's the sense?

Anything else I should try before I reload? Or should I just trash it and call it good?

Damn freaking stupid computer!

Do you mean physically remove the NIC and protocols or "uninstall"?

Yeah go in to the device manager and remove the nic. When you reboot it should be reinstalled.

It's funny that the device manager says that the device is "working properly"...but I will "uninstall/remove" it and reboot and see what goes down.

Problem solved! Finally...

Thanks everyone, but after pulling all my hair out I finally got it all resolved!!

I unstalled everything like Icerberg suggested, I took out the NIC card, I ran JustRegistry and found 106 problems, I then ran regcleaner and found an additional 290 problems ?? (what ever they were) and removed them.

I rebooted several times to allow some things that did "not respond" on while shutting down, did a "restart", and rebooted again...I did this about 4 or 5 times until everything booted up and shut down properly.

I ran JustRegistry again and found 3 System problems, repaired them, ran regcleaner and found nothing.

I then reinstalled the Netgear software, then the NIC card, booted up and found where to enter the 26 char WEP key...and connected up!

What a learning experience that was!

So, thanks again for all the lessons, suggestions, and help!

Yeah, I can pass the A+ Certification test, but I still cannot fix anything without the help of others.

It took some time and some brain storming, but if feels good in the end to know that I (and youz) fixed it!

Woot!

:star: (I think pimping would be an easier job)...

That's why I never cared about getting A+ certified. I already knew most of the stuff it covered. Why spend money to take a test to certify I know what I have been doing for the last 16 years.

The only reason I did it was to see if I could do it!

That is a damn hard test...

Don't make me give you a question that you can't answer!!

I'll answer it.....it may not be correct but I'll answer it :laugh2:

When I was studying for it and I got to the motherboards and chipsets I called BS. No one is going to remember all of that. They are going to call their vendor and say send me some memory for *insert computer and model* :laugh1:

You are so right!

I tried to call Netgear Customer Service and got connected to somewhere on the other side of the World to someone that I could not understand! Somewhere in India, Pakistan...who freaking knows?

And...then they wanted me to pay some money because "my warranty" was no longer good!

I tried again and had to hang up because I just could not understand what the hell they were trying to talk to me about...

So, at least the good thing is, at least when I talk to you guys I can relate to what you are trying to tell me. And, you guys did not to it for me for free...you did it to just keep me around...because I'm valuable.

Right?
