Ok, our All-time team vs other teams

Interesting, you'd choose Walls over Deion despite the clear difference in talent and productivity (not to mention Deion never took plays off like Walls routinely did). I remember a play in 1987 when Walls just forgot to cover Gary Clark when he was staring right at him. Everson was a natural free safety, and Bill Parcells took advantage of that.

Anyway, I'm assuming you made your choice because of some kind of personal dislike of Deion's style, but then you choose Raphael Septien, a known pedophile? Of course you could also think of Deion as a hired gun, but the man was a Cowboy for 5 years. He certainly acheived more as a Cowboy more than he did anywhere else-- his 1998 season alone was amazing, broken tow and all. In every game of the first half of that season Deion made at least one game-changing play that put us in a position to win the game (we didn't always come through, but he put us in position).

The combination of Mel Renfro and Deion Sanders is the best any NFL team could possibly muster IMHO.

EDIT: Ooops, caught your update. Still, I'd make an exception to the 7-year rule for Deion!

I don't know about that. Green Bay had Herb Adderly and Willie Davis at the same time. Oakland had Mike Haynes,Willie Brown and Lester Hays. Skins have had Tommy McDonald and Green. I think the Cards had Tommy McDonald also to go with Aneas Williams and there was a guy named Green who went both ways but had he stuck with DB, he could have been a HOF kind of player. That's just off the top of my head.

Tommy McDonald was a WR back in the 50s & 60s. I think you mean Tim McDonald.

Tommy played for us in 1964 and was the last NFL player to play without a facemask.

Thumper, you are right. Tommy is actually from New Mexico. Sorry about the mix up there.

Generally good list, but Herschel at FB is very surprising. I would say he played FB part-time for maybe two years. Tell me your reasoning.

I was a big Herschel fan back in the day, but I would think there are better choices for all-time full back.

Herschel can play either RB or FB in our offense. We actually played a great deal of split back when Walker first came to Dallas. I just think the numbers justify his position on the team. Over less then 4 years, he averaged 1634 yards per season. He averaged 57 catches a season and 9.5 TDs a season. In those 3.5, or so years he was with us (86 to 89), he was the second most productive back our club has ever had, second only to Emmitt 92 to 95 (1980 yards per season on average, just over 19 TDs on average), and this in an offense that had nothing and no body but him. What could he have done on a team as talented as the one Emmitt played on? Plus, he was a pretty good blocker as well. Not your classic lead blocking FB but very good in pass blocking and pretty good in lead blocking. If he played for Parcells today, he'd be our starting FB, no question. I don't know but to me, the numbers would have been astounding. To me, he is by far the best FB our team has ever had. Not his fault that he played on a horrible Dallas team and then got traded. That is the reasoning I used to make that selection.

I see comparisons in this thread between Aikman and Staubach?

Two completely different QB's with different strengths and weaknesses... I cant see how we can compare and then throw in the era's they played in...

Troy could easily have 2 SB's or atleast 4(maaaaaaybe 5)... he has 3(thanks Neil and Larry). I think the interference by Jerry, Jimmy and co. played a big part.

Roger could easily have had 3 or even 5 SB's... he has 2. I think not being on same page with Landy played a part in his SB total.

Yeah, apparently Jim was pissed about this miss representation as well.

I don't understand the reasoning here.

Herschel did put up some pretty good numbers for a few years for us. I would probably not pick him as a starting fullback, but your reasons are certainly justified. Herschel was definitely a freak for his day. He could run and had good hands. You're right, he was not a great lead blocker, but probably adequate a Richie Anderson type. If Herschel had not gone to the USFL, I think he would have put up some great numbers in the NFL.

Also, as I recall without looking it up, Herschel played a little bit of FB when he came back to play with us in 96 or 97? I remember Novacek was injured and so Moose moved to tight-end and Herschel moved to full back. It may have been just for a couple of games.

Later in his career, he actually played a lot of HBack and Full Back. With the Eagles, that was pretty much his position.

I was just refering to accomplishments and then I threw in the woulda coulda shoulda's LOL

Both could have won more titles then there would less of a "comparison"
