OL gurus please help

A guy off the street fits that mold? I hope so.
No he’s not “the guy” but the mold they are looking at. He’s their depth, and like the other poster said I think Hernandez was really the one they wanted in the draft. I wouldn’t be suprised if they draft a o-linemen again next year. Especially if Fred isn’t the same, and I’d think with Smith’s back issues that has to be something they are looking at.

All of the Dallas linemen were former tackles in college, at some point. They have the skill for a lateral step in pass blocking. Eventually that movement ability will start to jell and provide even better pass protection, that was a carry over from last season. It is coming...

They should learn to kick slide in HS or at least college.

I’m not talking about pass protection. I’m talking about “power rushing”. That’s what the offense is designed for. But speaking of pass protection...how many sacks have they given up going back to last year, and then 6 again? It’s becoming an issue,as well as the stupid penalties. They got to minimize that. Now I understand it’s going to take time, and knew that with Connor, then Fred being out,but my whole thing isn’t even about this one game or them at all,but something I’ve been calling for more and more since Leary left. And yes I really do hope they start gelling, because NY has a nasty front as well, and that’s not going to get any easier for them.

A better OC would change the offense to help his shaky OL and his jittery QB.

The true starters are good at power blocking, and Williams is good at sliding down field for area blocking at a hole.

Williams can be bull rushed...but he will gain an NFL level of strength by the middle of this season.

The original starters are great at pulling, cross blocking, and mis-direction plays.

They are having to improve at pass blocking as a unit...given time and health.

They should learn to kick slide in HS or at least college.

They all played left tackles at some time in college...hence, the skill had a solid start. This starter's unit needs time together, and the backup center returned to a support role.

You know..that’s fine by me. I mean never mind the performance issues,it’s the calls and decisions that are enough. Each year it’s something. He’ll have good games, then these moments you’re left going...”What? Who? Why?” I’m just out of patience with the staff right now. It’s too much of the same issues no matter who’s on the roster. Like what do we need,20 offensive all-pros and perfectly executed plays every play?
They shouldn’t be struggling this much.

Looney is a JAG and Williams is out of Position. Cowboys lost the best O-Line Coach in the Game with Frank Pollack. T-Smith has declined cause hes always hurt for some reason. Collins is still Young and learning.

Williams is too light and soft to Play Guard. You Need a mauler there. Williams best skill is his athleticism and footwork. Hes a natural Tackle. They Need to move him to RT and let Collins Play inside as he is way more of a Guard than Williams.

Frederick was the Signal Caller and also a great Snapper. Looks like he is the worst loss to the Line.

Seems to me, Leary was the Clog helping this line and the other guy who retired last year ( name escapes me now), was not as bad as was made to seem.

over the last 9 games (beginning with ATL) they have yielded 29 sacks ... that would suggest Dak is looking at 50 sack season in 2018

in 2016 Zeke averaged 5.1 ypc, since then only 1 game above 5.0

the stats above are probably why we have a new OL coach (can't remember his name)
then 6 sacks to open his coaching career in DAL

I'm not an OL guy - I can tell you all about passing schemes ... how to cover / how to beat coverage, try me any time - tactically or strategically - I know passing games

if there are any OL gurus in the house please explain a few things for us

it's near 5 months since Conner was drafted to play LG, why hasn't he powered up? is he maxed out?
that just seems weird (to put it nicely)

IMO, Collins played slightly better than Doug Free last year, and last game: will he ever be above average?

Looney looked ok in protection (to me), but couldn't make a combo block on the 2nd level
is he a viable long term option at C?

and can anybody explain to me how Chaz, and now Fleming (when last seen), just seem to have forgotten how to play the game? is that coaching? brain lock? just don't care? a new drug? ... what?
again - weird (to put it nicely)

moreover, what are the odds the unit get better quick?
I say its worth experimenting at this point switch LC and Conner conner was a Tackle they are making a guard and LC seemed to play better at LG..at this point staying the way it is might be disastrous ..I think Dak and Zeke are getting all the bashing but this line has been the real issue these past handful of games..

Im pretty Sure Bill Callahan had this line playing better it started after he left

Not good.

No they’re not. They’re technique players. The whole line is.

Having good technique doesn't mean a player isn't physical and strong. What makes those guys special is they have both the technique and the physicality.

Was Frederick a tackle? I knew about the others.
