Olbermann to work football pre-game show for NBC
April 16, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- Keith Olbermann will return to sports for the first time in six years to join Cris Collinsworth as co-host of the pregame show for NBC's Sunday night NFL telecasts.

Olbermann, who currently hosts a prime-time newscast and opinion show called "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" on MSNBC, will join with host Bob Costas and analysts Jerome Bettis, Tiki Barber and Peter King on NBC's "Football Night in America."

An anchor for ESPN's SportsCenter from 1992-97, Olbermann last appeared on network television in 2001 as host of postseason baseball coverage for FOX.

His job on the NBC show will be to narrate highlights and discuss NFL news and issues.

Olbermann's good....with Dan PAtrick. Collinsworth has that same kind of vibe, I suppose.

So let's see, .. Olbermann, Collinsworth, Bettis, and Tiki Barber ???

Possibly the worst I have ever seen assembled !! If only Theisman was there.:lmao2:

For the first time ever, I will avoid a show because of the panel.

There was a time when Olberman was on ESPN that he was a lot of fun.

But then it seemed that he really got tired & bored with sports. It seemed like his humor became more belittling at that point and his attitude smug, as if the sports this nation craves was beneath him. He sooned moved on and I think that was appropriate.

Is he now going to truly support the NFL and give the public what they want (overinflated importance of sports) or will he continue to minimize it? I suspect its the latter and that I won't like him on there.

I know sports and the NFL isn't life or death. But it is an escape of sorts and I don't want the people who deliver it to me to trivialize it. Cosell did that at the end as well.

Olbermann's a buffoon, though less so when he did sports. Sorta "meh"...

Edit: Just noticed Tiki Barber will be on the show. In that case, I won't be watching it anyway.

I'm running out of pre game shows to watch now. Guess I'll just go to the second service at church instead of the first and I still won't miss much.

He brings intelligence and a great (at times biting) sense of humor.
His newscast ratings have been rising and I guess he thought it was time to get back (at least part-time) where he started.
Forget those other has-been athletes and talking heads. Olbermann will make the shows better.
Collinsworth is an idiot as are Costas, Bettis and Barber.

I like Costas and Collinsworth...Peter King too. Bettis and Barber are pointless...they are going to have way too many people on that show now.

Bob Costas is one of the best studio hosts in broadcasting. Olbermann isn't going to play 2nd fiddle to him. Why would they do this? I like both guys, but this doesn't make much sense.

Bring up baseball and he lights up. Carries a torn baseball card (I forget the player but he was a great in the National Naptime) to show anybody who will interview him.
Loves the St. Louis Cards and thinks football is something to do between baseball seasons.
Wish he'd stay the muck away from football.
Olbermann will make the others (even Costas) look good.

Costas doesn't need Olbermann to look good. Olbermann wouldn't need Costas either. Both are baseball guys and are highly intelligent.

Costas is a consumate professional studio host though. Perhaps the best ever. If Olbermann has a serious flaw it's that he wants to be the show. You don't do that to a Bob Costas. I think this move may backfire.
