I don't think he personally hyped himself up. All the training camp reports did.

Unfortunately, his impact hasn't carried over into the passing game like many thought based on those reports.

gee another camp hero that turns into a pumpkin in the regular season. How often have we seen that over the years? ANd how many gomers were making all sorts of claims at what he would do this year? Funny how none of them are owning up to it now.

Heading into the season I felt Bennett would have a very good season I'm not ashamed to admit that. He could come back and play very well and that would not change the high hopes for this season. As for being a pre-season pumpkin up until this season Miles Austin was one of those pumpkins. Write Bennett off if you choose I know the guy has the talent he just has to step up and prove it.

Maturity advancement is a process, in accordance with one's experiences, and it should be noticed by others around you because of one's actions, whether be vocal or physical act, rather than personal announcement.

Realistically speaking...

What did you expect from the second tight end?

Well, I thought he'd be a good safety valve, peeling off a block to the sideline. I thought I'd see him used in a screen pass or two also. But, the whole offense has been moribund at times. Maybe the breakout in New Orleans for the offense will cary forward. I sure hope so.

He matured because he realized playing time was in jeopardy since John Phillips has clearly been out performing him on the field.

So referring to him and Witten as Beans n Rice is hyping himself up? I guess I don't see it. I think all the hype was based on the media slobbering over him during training camp.

The media was right when they were slobbering over him, though. He looked amazing in camp. Caught more balls than probably any other player in camp. And he looked uber-athletic in the process.

Not sure if it's bad luck, lack of discipline or lack of opportunities that has contributed to that not carrying over into the regular season, but it's not like the "hype" wasn't justified at the time.

Wasn't saying that it wasn't justified. Just that it wasn't Bennett doing a bunch of self-hyping.

I think making a nickname that implies you are on par with an All-Pro, potential HOFer is a bit of self-aggrandizement. What the heck has Beans done to be considered in the same sentence with Witten?

Although I do agree the media played the major role, this kid ain't exactly humble.

I really love Bennett, but I have to tell you that if Cincy will renew the offer of a 1st for him I would take it. I have confidence in John Phillips as a backup and we can draft a 3rd TE late. Two 1sts would give us the ammo needed to move up and take Rolando McClain who I think is the perfect fit on this team.

What does being humble have to do with anything? Bennett is a guy who likes to talk and who is confident in himself but even if he was a mild manner person and did not perform would it be any less disappointing? Bennett has to get it together regardless if he is humble about it or not.

Lack of opportunities.

There have been numerous goal-to-go series where he wasn't even on the field.

He had the fade attempt early on and hasn't seen a sniff since.
