On Quit Watch?

It will take the players pulling it together. If they decide they are done then it’s gonna get ugly. I think if JG was to throw Linehan under the bus now and get this Offense a new OC then it may just save his HC job. That’s just my opinion. JG has to be feeling the heat unless he and JJ has already talked and he knows he is safe.
JG doesn't have the power to fire anyone. It's up to Jerry who to keep.

It seems pretty clear that through all the ups and downs, the good, the bad and the mediocrity of the Garrett Era, one thing could be said of his teams, despite the results- they fought hard for 4 qtrs, every game.

But the noise surrounding this team, now in the 8th full season of Garrettsville, and with a weak 2-3 start, we must start to wonder if this team is tiring of the “process”. It might be different if there were some big signs of hope, like a star offensive player coming back, or some new spark to be seen in recent games. They just aren’t there.

I’ve followed the Cowboys every year since 1964. The place we are at now reminds me of the ‘87 and ‘88 teams under Landry, who was one of the top 5 greatest coaches in NFL history, but was trying to rebuild a team without much to work with. It reminds me even more of 2010, when Romo was hurt and the team had basically seen there was no way forward with Wade Phillips. They became disheartened and cashed in their chips. They quit on Phillips. It was essentially the end of an era started by Parcells in ‘03, but ending in 2010.

The Garrett era officially started in 2011, and after 7 seasons and some change, this team has had two playoff appearances. And the future doesn’t exactly look like a road to the super bowl. Sometimes, the magic just doesn’t happen.

It must be said that this team hasn’t quit on the Clapper just yet. But I think he’s on life support. If this team gets whipped at home against the Jags, and the boo birds descend on Jerry’s sacred “stayjum”, the “Quit Watch” will be on full alert.

Mr. Hall of Fame “contributor” MAY soon face a cold realty- a team that is no longer listening to the red headed robot. If that happens, whether Jerry accepts it or not, the Garrett experiment is over. It will agonize him and frustrate him, but Jerry fears losing paying customers more than he fears losing. If boos and empty seats start showing up, the clock is ticking.

Tick, tick, tick......
Jerry will love the “booze” showing up...

Here was the first planar fracture I noticed. At the time, I was not sure where this discontinuity would take us, but it appears to be headed to San Andreas Ca. :) Of course, I could be just reading it wrong.

“There’s no doubt that the personal feeling I have about what Tony Romo and Jason Witten brought to the Cowboys during their career, I don’t think I’ve had a moment in the day that at some time I don’t reflect back on those good years and what they contributed,” Jones said. “And I’ve said this: From my standpoint, I can’t help but say, ‘Boy, I really dropped the ball not doing enough to get them in a Super Bowl. That will be and is my biggest regret about my time with the Cowboys.” J.J.

1. When Wade was fired after game 8, the offense already had 19 TOs. When Garrett fired Ryan in 2012, he said the defense didn’t give him enough chances offensively to score. He failed to see the irony in that statement considering how many times his offense was handing the ball back to the opposing team, giving them all these chances to score.

2. Romo got injured in game 7 and the play-offs were no longer a reality. This idea the team quit on Wade is a joke. They gave up on the season because it was over with.

3. Wade throughout the season, when his defense was holding teams to less than 20 points and still losing, he was saying the inability to run is putting a lot of pressure on the defense. Garrett never could field a running game.

4. The Cowboys lost to the Commanders in the first game of the season because Choice fumbled a pass with like 5 seconds to go in the half in their own territory. Garrett actually called a pass play instead of downing it and had a check down. Now Garrett is Mr. Conservative apparently.

Either he was sabotaging Wade or an idiot, or just a combination of both. It’s probably the latter.

And it certainly looked like the offense quit in the Minnesota playoff game. End 2009 on complete garbage then blame Wade when it falls apart in 2010? People are very gullible if they actually believe this crap.

Garrett will throw Linehan under the bus before he's threatened. That's probably why he kept such an obvious failure. To hamstring and throw to the wolves as they got close.

I don't see the *defense* quitting. The dysfunction is all offense. Linehan is the Scapegoat. That may not save Garrett in the offseason, but it will get him through to the end of the season.

It's an easy play. Garrett can take over play calling.

...it feels this team is caught in conundrum, of what if's. IF we play hard, will win. IF Garrett rights the ship this next game, ticket punched. IF Linehan calls a good game, playoffs on the horizon. Like the alcoholic who says, just one more drink.

....Cowboys need help. Heck, we need help for watching this.

The 87 and 88 comparison is actually a pretty good one. We had the leading rusher in the NFL but a horrid offense with no QB.

While I agree they never quit. There have been several times they did not show up for the first quarter or even the first half. It seems after a ten day lay off or bye week we start off like pigs.

This is all at 2-3 with the division leader at 2-2, you imagine what it's going to be like if they're 2-6 or even 3-5?

This is what's so stupid about Booger's remarks about the 4th down call and Dez, none of this is helping his team.
His remarks are usually not about helping his team. He’s more concerned about public perception and being aligned with it.

It’s why wearing both the owners and GM’s hat has always been a conflict of interest.

Well, we have the first sign all is not happy in the Highland Park Hillbilly camp with Booger's really stupid remark about the 4th down call in OT. That is the first time we've seen a crack in the relationship but worse than that, the players saw that as well. He's been Booger's third son and while they all knew who buttered their muffins, they knew he was the chosen one. Now, it could get really nasty.

Before this season began, I said no way he fires Garrett, he's family and Booger is too comfortable with the arrangement. Now, I am not so sure he and idiot boy child aren't discussing what other coaches might make Booger just as comfortable.

Bullet, we're just getting ready for the show. The little car is just pulling up to the center ring, we just don't know how many clowns are getting out.
It’s going to come down to how dug in they are with Dak.

If they extend Dak regardless the results this year instead of letting it play out in his final rookie contract then Jerry might fire this staff for one last gasp for Dak.

But the local vibe is turning more against Dak. Troy’s comments were very telling. Will be interesting to see where Jerry’s loyalty falls.

And what explains the last two decades.

We've waited for years for the defense to be good and now that is probably what's going to keep JG around awhile longer. The irony.

This team will play hard IMO because they don't know any better.....they are all so young.

I'm not sure about that. Garrett is an offensive guy, not defensive. It's the offense that needs fixing. Garrett and Dak aint working. Which one gets thrown off the island?

It's easy to make a story about how we need to move on from Garrett to give Dak s real shot.

It's interesting. I'm surprised at how completely the world has turned against Garrett.

The only point I was making is the defense will probably keep us in the games. With Wade we were getting blown out. I agree this offense is awful. I can see it going south fast if it isn't turned around. I'm just surprised it's taken this long. The Guys been here for 12 years in one capacity or another and he's done nothing.

They haven't actually quit yet, but they don't come out highly motivated, and haven't for some time now. There was a short stretch last season where it looked like they were not only being beaten, but the effort wasn't there either. That's a red flag, no pun intended.
