On what Tier do you place Romo?

I'll hold off until he doesn't have Owens. I love Romo and have back when we were arguing about Quincy/Hutch but after watching Culpepper turn into the worst QB I have seen as soon as Moss left, I don't want to get too ahead of myself.

Closer to 2 than to 3, with the ability to move to 1 if he continues along the lines he's been heading since camp began.

It's his intangibles that could land him squarely in group 1.

Tier 1: Elite - HOF for sure
examples:
Peyton Manning
Tom Brady

Tier 2: Great - potential HOF
examples:
Carson Palmer
Drew Brees

Tier 3: Perrenial Starter - Pro Bowl caliber
examples:
Donovan McNabb
Steve McNair
Marc Bulger
Matt Hasselbeck

Tier 4: Middle of the Road QB
examples:
Jon Kitna
Chad Pennington
Jake Delhomme
Jeff Garcia

Tier 5: Backup
examples:
Brad Johnson
Joey Harrington

Tier 6: Kind of QB's we've had since Troy : )
Henson
Hutch
Vinny

I put him in a class all by himself:laugh1: Myself I think the sky is the limit for Romo.

It's tough to rank him yet cause he's only played around 11 games. On the other hand he's been selected as offensive player of the week 4-5 times & selected to pro bowl in with less then 9 games of play.

Some of the tiers as you've identified them kinda force us to hold off cause he really doesn't fit in them with short starting history. Yet in many of his games he's played in the top 2 tier level.

I think we'll get a better feel about midway through the season which probably about same time Jerry Jones gets serious about re-signing him to big contract. I want to see how consistently he plays (I do expect an occasional lapse in play cause it happens to most QBs and he's young) and how long into the season he looks good. Would be upset if he played well for 5-6 games and then slowly went down hill -- unless it traceable to poor defense and offensive injuries, etc. Also want to see how he does against pretty good defenses like Dolphins, Bears, NE, etc.

You left off a level, as Romo is on a Tier all by himself:

Tier 0 - Moxie!

Tough question not only for Romo but for some of the others you've listed as examples.

I think Romo has already established that his floor is Tier 3.

Given his relative inexperience (< 1 season) and the fact that he was an UDFA (yes, that matters) I'm not ready to put him at Tier 2 right now.

What he has accomplished in a very short while is a bit mind-boggling given his lack of college pedigree and less than outstanding measureables. No one saw this coming after college. Not even the Boys. If they had they wouldn't have risked not drafting him.

For some reason, the fact that he is not big and strong in appearance makes me hesitate. But his release, his accuracy, his moxie and his production - WOW!

Not saying he's not a leader right now but I wonder what this guy will be like once he's established enough to drop the "Aw shucks" routine and stops almost apologizing for his success. Maybe that'll never change but I almost think he's got far greater leadership potential than we even see right now.

Someone mentioned lets see how he does without TO. Actually, I think you only have to look at how he uses Crayton and to a lesser extent Hurd to realize Romo could be one of those QB's (I put Montana & Elway in this category) that makes his receivers better than they really are. I think Aikman was actually a bit flawed that way in that he routinely complained about his lesser receivers. I think Romo just takes whose out there, says lets go get em, and does just that.

To me he's some sort of cross between Roger (the competitiveness, mobility & smarts) Brees & maybe Tarkenton (the latter 2 because of stature & style).

We are unbelievably fortunate to have him.

I'd say he's somewhere between Tier 3 and Tier 4 right now, but definitely closer to Tier 3. Undoubtedly, he has the potential to be a solid Tier 2 player, but only time will tell and we'll see after this season is in the books.

Tier 3 right now- but close to 2. By the end of the season if he is in 2 then all he has to do is maintain that for 6-8 years and he will be in the HOF.
That and some rings, of course.

Tier 3 with potential to move to Tier 2 QB.

I agree with this ranking. Out of all of the QB's listed (and the rest in the NFL for that matter), I would only choose Peyton, Brady and Palmer over Romo. He has shown enough for me after 11 games to know that he is the real deal and will be a perennial probowler. His "moxie", dedication, leadership are evident and are the intangibles that you either have or you don't. He has shown that he can be very accurate and can make all of the throws. The only thing left is decision making (which for the most part is already good) and will continue to improve as he grows in his position.

The only thing I would like to see is for him to calm down in the beginning of games. If he can start games the way he finishes them. It will put him, and JG,in a much better position to manage the game, dictate the temp, and keep defenses off balance.

I agree that he takes what he has and makes something of it. If you look at his distribution to WR/RB's/TE's you can see that he spreads the ball around and is not locked on a favorite receiver like some QB's.

I get this inner feeling that Romo is going to be very special.

2004 Culpepper had a career year (39 TDs to 12 INT) spreading the ball around pretty evenly to Burleson, Robinson, Moss and even amongst the RBs. Their offense was in the top 10 in every category, heck most in the top 3.

2005, Moss goes to Oakland and Culpepper drops to 6 TDs and 12 INT.

I think I'd like to wait until the defense is not keying in on Owens. Like I said, I have loved him since his first snaps in preseason circa Quincy/Hutch, but I'm not going to rank him yet. He's awesome with the weapons he has though.

Let's let him play a full season first. I was extremely impressed with his play this weekend and I'm not his number one fan as some know.

Thank you! Romo has done NOTHING in this league YET...

Show me the money, Romo...show me the Lombardi...show me the ring!

I was in no way trying to put Carson Palmer and Drew Brees in the HoF, but Carson has shown he has the tools to be elite, and Brees has had an exceptional last 3 years and I have no reason to believe he won't keep it up. I had to name the 2nd tier something

Hold on, how can you not put McNabb in the 2nd tier, don't make me play the race card...(just joking) :laugh2: I'll take him over Brees!

nah....your not joking.

those words would have not even crossed your mind if you were joking.
