Once again, NTs Matter

If we are going to have success, we MUST take NTs more seriously. We need to draft a NT within the first 3 rounds. That will help us shut the run down, and then our pass defence can pin their ears back. Until the Cowboys take NT more seriously, we are going to break down defencively every season because we will be unable to stop the run.
They need to address DT for sure and it could be a truly elite defense if they ever solved that. Need a true run stopper and a disrupting 3T. Oh and ignore the poster who pretends to be British. Totally useless.[/QUOTE]

You would have thought after the rams PO loss when both RB went over a 100 yards that a light bulb would have went off, but nothing has changed since that lost.

Just before the season started, I started a thread highlighting the importance of a NT. A lot of people here tried to mock me and make me look like a dunce. Yes, they're not as important as a QB. However! We are seeing all season why NTs are critical. We can't stop the run! Teams are running the ball on us at will, which is putting our pass defence at a significant disadvantage. I think we put a dagger in our season when we got rid of Ridgeway. We lost a player that could swallow up blocks and help protect against the run. Then, we also lost Hankins to injury. Where we were strong defencively was we had Ridgeway and then Hankins helping to shut down the run, which then set our pass defence up to attack. That was why Parsons had success before, but is now struggling to get after the QB.

The Jags ran around the edges all day long for good yards. I don't disagree that a good NT is important but if they had an elephant inside today the Jags still would have run for 200 yards because there was no containment on the outside. Dallas was able to win without Hankins earlier in the season - because they had an awesome pass rush. Last week, no sacks. This week 1 sack. They did not contain Lawrence and let him escape the pocket a few times to make big throws.

They need to get this fixed in 1 week because no pass rush and no coverage is a disaster.

Totally agree. I mean they have thrown some draft picks at the position but obviously have not picked the right guys. This is where they should be spending money in free agency in my opinion. I'll admit that I don't remember who was available though.

QB. For 2 years from now.

I would probably draft a QB as the insert position here pick.

Exactly, and I think people here are smart enough to know what I meant when I posted that thread. I've been proven right.

I think a part of the issue today was poor tackling, but I think that a NT could also cut down on the outside runs because the inside spots would be off the table. Thus, it'd make guarding the the outside easier.

Thank you, John

Well, that's the thing. It's not flashy, but you have to have the trenches secured to win. Not just the oline, but the Dline too.

Thank you, John

Yep, we can't seem to draft difference makers.
Just jags.

Yep, free agents are out there.

Offensively, we have done very well, and Parsons was a great choice. However, on the defencive trenches, we've been poor.

feels like we’ve been saying this for a decade at least, they still don’t value the position.
