A lot of these artists being discussed here were not one hit wonders... Lynn Anderson comes to mind...

was that even a hit?

Pat Boone's daughter, Debby Boone, was recruited to record the single, which became an enormous success, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a (then) record-setting ten consecutive weeks. It easily became the most successful single of the 1970s in the United States, and set a new Hot 100 record for longest reign at No.1. (Elvis Presley's double-sided "Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog", then recognized as the longest-running No. 1 of the rock era, spent eleven weeks atop the Billboard Best Sellers chart in 1956, before the debut of the Hot 100.) The record was matched in 1982 by Olivia Newton-John's "Physical", but never surpassed until a 1991 change in chart methodology allowed songs to achieve longer reigns at No.1 ("End of the Road" by Boyz II Men set the new record, thirteen weeks). The single, which was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), also hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and reached #4 on the Country chart. Conversely, the single peaked at #48 in the UK Singles Chart.[1]

Love that song

I used to as well
then I paid attention to the lyrics
"Then one winter there came a killing frost"

A KILLING FROST???
you mean when it gets down to 31 degrees & I cover my tomatoes??
Lets face it, Wildfire was gonna become dog food sooner rather than later.

Oddly enough Janis Joplin who's widely regarded as one of the greatest rock singers ever only had one hit "Me and Bobby McGee." You would think she had several hits but that was her only flirtation with the Billboard Top 40.

I thought "Piece of my Heart" would have been on the charts at one time or another... no?

It's listed as one of her so called "hit's" but from what I've read "Me and Bobby McGee" was her only song that ever made it into the Billboard top 40. Me and Bobby McGee didn't even hit the charts until after her death. She became a star mainly because of her unique voice and stage presence.
