One move that SHOULD be made

I KNOW how we could upgrade this team PRONTO without a whole lot of effort, just dont know what the CAP ramifications would be. Cleveland seems to be fire sailing right now, they didnt get all that much for Braylon Edwards. Betcha a nickle we could land big Sean Rogers without all that much trouble. Maybe a 3rd and useless Junior Siavi, heck Id even go a second and Siavi. I have seen Rogers be FLATOUT UNBLOCKABLE at times. Have seen him litterally just THROW TWO offensive lineman out of the way on his way to the backfield. Problem with Rogers has always been the same....conditioning....kind of a fat really. He needs quite a few breaks or he tires from carrying all the extra weight. PERFECT situation in Dallas. He could come in and play about HALF the snaps here. This way we would get the best out of him when he is on the field. He can come in and play Siavi's snaps when we give Ratliff a rest at nose tackle. That right there should be around 25 percent of the total snaps or so. Then we can create another 25 % of the snaps by moving Ratliff over to one of the END positions at times and letting Rogers play the nose. Think of it.............An offenseive line has to either deal with Rats quickness and hustle in the middle OR Rogers sheer size and strength. He's 6-4 350 pounds. Actually he's about 360...LOL. Rogers is only 30 years old. Nose tackles always tend to have good longevity. We can get 3 more dominant years out of him or so. If it didnt destroy the cap I would do this trade in a SECOND and wouldnt look back. Would take our D to a whole new level and even increase Rats effectiveness in the long run.

I dont know if anybody else happened to see this game or not, hope so then you would know what im talking about.......I saw Sean Rogers on a monday night game last year against the JETS do things that I dont think Ive ever seen in 35 years of intense football watching...LOL I watched that guy DRIVE back the entire interior o line of the jets. And I dont mean a couple feet, it was YARDS, drove em back right into the QB and R.b's feet. And it wasnt one play either. It was play after play after play. Just throwing people out of the way like rags. It looked like King Kong playing against a bunch of children. Dont know what was up with him THAT game, but it was as if he went stark raving NUTS and was out to kill somebody...LOL It was really something to see. One guy just destroyed an entire offense. The 2 guards and center could do nuthin with him. Im tellin ya, you play this guy 50 percent of the snaps, thus allowing him his rest, your gonna have a real beast. Pairing him and Rat gives an O line nightmares. NOW is the time to do it too....during the bye.

An offensive line wouldnt know whether to ~#$ or go blind. They would have to prepare for a SUPER QUICK penetrating HUSTLE type nose tackle in the mold of Warren Sapp "RATLIFF" or a MASSIVE pocketpusher like Rogers. Gives us quite a bit of flexibilty IMO. Plus.......just think of the third and short or goal line situations where both he and Rat can play side by side in the 4 man line. Forget running up the middle on that %$5....aint happening. NOW............GET IT DONE JERRY!!

YUP.....I think it is the type of move a team that is CLOSE goes ahead and makes. If we were 1-4 probably not, but at 3-2 with alot of football left to play a move like this can only help our defense going forward. Most probably wont happen, but it SHOULD. And I can dream....:D

All I know is this......when considering any move you have to ask yourself how this upgrades the team BOTH in the short and long term. You then have to weigh the move versus the cost involved. Risk/reward. Now....would this move help our team? YUP...Instantly. Puts our defense at a whole nuther level IMO for the reasons named above. Think we could get at least 3 very good years out of Rogers, if lucky 4 or five. Is this worth a 3rd round pick? Or even a 2nd? You bet it is. As Ive said....the kind of move a team that is CLOSE goes ahead and makes.

Or, we can stick with the status quo of an inferior backup like Siavii which we all know is nowhere near good enuff. As the season unfolds and we get into colder weather the importance of being able to run the ball and STOP the run becomes all the more important. Having the depth to do that is key. Right now we do not have that depth. Actually Rogers would provide MUCH MORE than just depth as outlined above. Pretty easy call in my book. Only question is how it effects the cap.

Lastly...lemme get this in before the bash party starts.... Are we, or are we not trying to win a Superbowl RIGHT NOW, this year? Of coarse we are. Any better options out there that are realistic for the price mentioned that will bring immediate help to this team?? .............Didnt think so...:p:

This seems more like a soliloquy than a thread. :)

I could see Rogers for maybe a 4th or 5th. You don't give up high draft picks for part-time players that have a history of being fat and lazy. This team needs a free safety more than a Saivii replacement. We also need whatever picks we have for next year's draft when we attempt (hopefully) to find a young OT and safety.

Fat and lazy?? Sure...somewhat. But check out his career stats, what he has done so far this season. He produces ALOT for someone so fat and lazy...LOL Hey, im one of the biggest Ratliff fans on the board, love the guy, wouldnt trade him for anyone. BUT....truth is, so far this season Rogers is on par or out producing Ratliff. Not too shabby for a fat lazy bum huh? Just saying, when put on the right team, playing the proper number of snaps for him, Rogers can be a dominant force on this team. Someone who can certainly help us bring home another title. Much more realistic than any absurd trade for Merriman ideas.

As Ive said, im a HUGE Ratliff fan so dont get me wrong. Go check out Rogers career stats.
Yeah, what a fat lazy bum....LMAO! Now compare them to other nose tackles at your leisure. You very well could be quite shocked.

Rogers would be a more than capable backup to give Ratliff a breather every now and then.

I'm guessing we could land him from Cleveland for even less than a draft pick. I'd say Carp and Siavii for Rogers, maybe throw in a 6th rounder. With some of the other rookies coming up it would be better to get rid of Carp and let the better athletes with more lateral speed in there on passing downs. Everyone knows you don't draft linebackers from the Big Ten for nickel defense  Thanks, Tuna.

Thing is, to be CLEAR,....In NO WAY am I advocating bringing Rogers in to be merely a backup. Someone who plays 25-30% of the snaps like Siavii. You bring a guy like Rogers in you put him on the field for around 50% of the snaps or so. You give him all of Juniors snaps, you put him at defensive tackle ALONG WITH Rat at the other defensive tackle when we go to a 4 man line on 3rd and short and goal line, AND you even give Rat a few snaps a game as a defensive end so Rogers can be used at the nose. THIS should easily get him around 50% of the defensive snaps or so while still giving Ratliff some much needed breathers.

The only problem I have with Rogers is he's the wrong side of 30. There is not too much tread left on those tires.

Truth is, ive ALWAYS agreed with you on this. Its just that I was looking for a guy like Rogers to come in and rotate with Rat, thus making them both more effective in the long run. You it seemed were more looking for a N.T to come in and start and possibly move Rat to defensive end. THAT I do not want to do simply because the heavy passrush that Rat can bring UP THE GUT is invaluable as it is the shortest point to the QB. QUICK, Up the middle pressure is where its at IMO.

I have to respectfully disagree SOMEWHAT. Sure it would be nice if he were younger, but at 30 he isnt all that old. Surely not for a nose tackle. Nose tackles tend to play quite old and have good longevity. PLUS....As Ive said earlier, the goal is to bring home a RING.....THIS SEASON. This move IMO goes a long way towards making that happen. The weather turns ugly REAL FAST...late season and playoffs you BETTER be prepared to run the ball and STOP THE RUN if you really wanna win anything.
