Thing is, to be CLEAR,....In NO WAY am I advocating bringing Rogers in to be merely a backup. Someone who plays 25-30% of the snaps like Siavii. You bring a guy like Rogers in you put him on the field for around 50% of the snaps or so. You give him all of Juniors snaps, you put him at defensive tackle ALONG WITH Rat at the other defensive tackle when we go to a 4 man line on 3rd and short and goal line, AND you even give Rat a few snaps a game as a defensive end so Rogers can be used at the nose. THIS should easily get him around 50% of the defensive snaps or so while still giving Ratliff some much needed breathers.

If that's what you're advocating, I disagree completely. No way you take Ratliff off the field that much.

....NO NO NO NO NO,.....Misunderstanding. I DO NOT want to take Rat off the field that much. NO WAY. What Im saying is you give Rogers all of Siavii's snaps. Thats probably about 25 % right there. Then you play him on short yardage ALONG WITH Ratliff when we move to a 4 man line, then you give Ratliff some snaps as defensive end and play Rogers at the nose while Rat is at D.E. In NO WAY do I want to reduce Ratliffs snaps.

Sooooooooo in closing, lets all come together and get behind this now. Lets just simply admit that the Hayseed has the best plan of attack for improving this team in the fastest possible way, while remaining halfway realistic, for the lowest possible cost. NOW......Let the email to Jerry campaign BEGIN!! ;) LOL

OK got it. So basically, it was what we were saying as a "backup" which is that Rogers replaces Siavii.

I would prefer to have Olshansky, Ratliff, Rogers, and Spears in a 4 man front. Leave Ratliff in the middle to do what he does best. Drop Spencer into coverage, rush Ware off the edge.

Might not be the best way to improve this team the fastest. There are other areas that need to be strengthened.

Yes, pretty much. A backup that plays MORE than a traditional backup simply by doing a little shuffling to make room for the more dominant player. Yet not reducing Ratliffs time on the field by very much....if any.

If they would move him for a mid round pick, I would do it in a heartbeat.

YUP.....I'd even go a third just because of how much he could improve this defense. A third to enhance our chances of bringing home a ring? No brainer. Just wish I knew what the salcap impact would be. Wheres Adam when you need him?...LOL

A second round pick would be too high, especially if you throw in a player. We could probably get him for a mid-rounder straight up and it wouldn't be a bad move.

Agreed...a second is high for a defensive tackle in his thirties with a history of being out of shape. However adding him would allow for Ratliff to play a little more end which should save some wear and tear on our best defensive player long term.

I think that Junior Savaii is the least of our defensive problems. I don't think there is a noticeable drop off in the run D when he's in the game. The biggest defensive problem is the play of the safeties.

Shaun RogersDefensive Lineman3/5/2008: Signed a six-year, $42 million contract. The deal contains $20 million guaranteed, including a $5 million signing bonus, a first-year roster bonus of $1 million, Rogers' second-year salary, and annual $200,000 workout bonuses. 2009: $2.4 million (+ $6 million option bonus due in March), 2010: $6.9 million, 2011: $5.5 million, 2012: $5.6 million, 2013: $5.5 million, 2014: $7 million (Voidable Year), 2015: Free Agent

We have too many contracts that "spike" next season to afford Rogers. Plus, with the d-linemen we already have, he'd be getting way too much for the role that most envision him having.

Also, no way the Browns let him go for anything less than a second round pick.

Clearly you can tell by my post count that im one post padding SOB...:) Now we can all get back to some of the more thought provoking important threads we see started around here............

There isn't any rule about posting too much. But there is no need to dominate a thread by posting in it over and over again. Just edit a previous post. It just makes for easier reading. :)

Actually for the right price, since we wouldn't have to rely on him to be the every down starter, i wouldn't be opposed to a move for him at all.

This guy made this thread after we suffered against the run in week one saying Rat is a tiny, weak NT and we need some run stuffer.

I told him if his stance will change after weeks 2 and 3 if we shut down the run against 2 of the better running teams in the league and he said he'd offer a mea culpa.

4 weeks of shutting down the run game with Rat and that bum Siavii that you claim and now he comes back with his self-dominated thread about Rogers:rolleyes: . Lame if you ask me.

Be a man and own up to our agreement.

Think you should really BE A MAN and check yourself. I made no such thread like that about Ratliff....EVER. Go check my post history, I encourage you to. You will very quickly find out you are confused and have me mixed up with someone else. In otherwords.......YOU ARE WRONG. Truth is you CANT find any such thread started by me, or me even in it at all. If you can PROVE IT, Fact is you cant. Im a huge Ratliff fan and have made that very clear in this thread. One should really at least know what they are talking about before they talk, wouldnt you agree???
