I was mad in 1985, too, but that team overachieved to win that division and get that far. They beat the Giants with Steve Pelluer throwing to Karl Powe and Leon Gonzalez.

This current team has a ton of talent. That's what makes their missteps so pronounced.

Exactly right Chief.

That's the difference. And that's what makes this clusterfudge all the more maddening.

Yeah, I'm stunned that we agree too. :D

But I'm more stunned that the Cowboy nation has as you correctly put it, "brushed off" this debacle for the most part. It's as if those two runs have been collectively put out of our minds. Like some sorta weird "Dallas" dream sequence part II.

I was trying to discuss with a friend if anything came close to that combination of embarssment, anger and heartbreak in the wake of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in unimaginable ways. The only thing we could think of was Leon Lett trying to recover a blocked field goal in the snow. But that was just one individual's stupidity and lack of awareness that sank the entire team. This was 11 guys simultaneously. Back to back plays.

It was one of the worst.

I don't see how anyone could not say that it was one of the very worst moments of this franchise.

I still have difficulty believing that it happened... 2 running plays over the span of 4 minutes covering almost 150 yards.

And in the last game, the last 4 minutes of the stadium's history? The two longest runs EVER given up in that complex?

If I had to pick a nightmare scenario it would be more like the Santana Moss debacle-- 2 passing TD's late in the game-- Not 2 running plays covering the distance that those did. That's just unreal.

That's sorta what it reminded me of.

And one RB is 270 lbs. and the other RB is washed up and hasn't broken a run over 20 yards all year.

Its like letting 2004's Eddie George break an 80 yarder on you ... when everyone knows the play is going to be Eddie George right up the middle.

Easy -- we still control our own destiny. Nothing else matters as far as I'm concerned.

Trust me, we play well and lose against the Eagles, you'll know what a worse moment feels like. That's it, game over. No more football, no more anticipation of having a big game to look forward to until friggin' September 2009.

Ouch.

That was the other thing... Letting a 270lb back score from that distance-- just how insane is that?!

I just can't understand the lack of outrage against that whole sequence of events-- instead everyone focuses on Romo, who did not have a good day, no matter how you slice it-- but defensive collapse and the way it collapsed totally out distances whatever shortcomings Romo had in the game.

You need to chill out! Really, you do...

See, this last game was a grand plan from Jerry. He wanted it this way. He wanted to ring out the old to bring in the new. He wanted us fans to have a bad tast in our mouths about this old stadium so that we will appreciate his brand new one! Make sense? Right?

Yeah, me neither!

I did too...I was so sure that they had the game in hand, then those runs!

I was all excited to watch the closing ceremonies...but after that last run I shut the TV off...went to bed. Even my wife was not in the mood!

I lost on both counts!!!

I have no problem with you feeling this moment to be one of the lowest in franchise history. To you, obviously it is. Its not for me and I've stated why. So we disagree on that. No big deal.

But I'm also not bashing Romo or anyone else for Saturday's results. Frankly, as heart-breaking and shocking as it all was I actually understand how it could happen. Sucks that it did but what I'm not inclined to rant about it. And that is why I'm not outraged. Just my style I guess.

Others think its real easy to finger this or that person as THE reason why we aren't meeting expectations. Good for them. Maybe they're right. I tend to think things are rarely that simple. Maybe I'm wrong.

Michael it's all ok. Remember, we win and we're in. That game basically never happened. Anyone who says otherwise isnt a true fan.

A little too tongue in cheek?

This alleged team is a reflection of its management and what a fitting way to go out.

I say alleged team because it's more like a disorganized mob of some superstars and a bunch of nobodies who don't seems to put forth much intelligent effort.

But that's Jerry's problem to solve, not mine. ;)

Has everyone bought their tickets for next year yet?

Well said Bob. This team has become utterly disfunctional and is a place where players come to get second chances. Hard work and team unity are secondary. These guys come to Dallas for a second chance at fortune and they know that Jerry will pay. It's become a circus and Jerry loves the attention and the publicity, both positive and negative but refuses to see that it's detrimental to the "team."

It's become less and less a team and more a collection of fractured indivuals and groups. We've got disgruntled WR's and if you believe the media, players have taken sides either with or against Romo. Then you have players screaming at coaches while they are empowered on the NFL Network by the likes of Deon Sanders who jabbed at the OC after every bad pass or play that wasn't executed. The announcers were sickening.

The coaching staff is not much different either. Wade is a glorified HC but, in reality, he's just a DC. He should be accountable for everything that happens on the football field, including the offensive philosophy but JG is autonomous. The bottom line is this drama has taken away from what should have been a good year but we've digressed. I've seen this before and I know how it ends and it doesn't end well.

It's almost like it's about marketing more than football. We've got disgrunteled WR's

The two longest runs given up by a Dallas defense EVER in Texas Stadium-- and they happen 4 minutes apart?????

Why isn't there more uproar over this?

Jebus, there were many seasons when a Cowboys defense wouldn't give up one of these runs-- but two in one friggin game? Within minutes of each other?

I'm shocked more are not outraged at how pathetic giving up those two long runs actually was. Maybe folks are have just tried pushing it out of their minds because of how football ugly that was.

And I don't want to hear how the offense let the defense down-- my gosh, how many times over the last decade have we had an offense that couldn't put up points if its life depended on it, yet those defenses filled with the likes of: Ebenezer Ekuban and Mario Edwards never gave up what this defense did.

Bash Romo all you want but those two runs combined, made my top 5 list of worst Cowboy moments-- ever. And that list goes back to the early 70's.
It reminded me of the loss the Cowboys had against the Commanders the night they put Aikman, Emmitt & Irvin in the Ring Of Honor. :banghead:

Especially because we knew they would be running!

I agree 100%. It was one of the most embarassing moments in 48 years. Two 75+ yard runs, on back-to-back plays (the first time in NFL history that has ever happened) with the playoffs on the line. For as bad as Romo and the offense was, I have no doubt they would have won the game if the defense would have got them the ball back. I'm more embarassed than losing to the friggin Arizona Cardinals at home in the playoffs

This was the Cowboys' way of slaughtering perhaps the last sacred cow of this franchise. Try to induct the triplets...give up two long bombs to Moss.

Put any kind of historic franchise meaning on the game, and the 2000s decade Cowboys teams will surely ruin it for you in mind boggling fashion.

Oh well, there's one more chance that this undeserving mob gets into the playoffs and it's against yet another tough team that doesn't love them and has something to play for, both things that don't bode well for Dallas in December. If I just had any idea which team would show up...???

It hasn't boded well for us in December even when teams didn't have anything to play for. hell the Rams cost themselves several draft spots because the magic of the Cowboys fired them up (like it did earlier this year), and Dallas laid an egg. I remember Ram fans were angry that the Rams won because it cost them about 7 positions in the draft.

Detroit - crappy team, nothing to play for, we lay an egg.

It just goes on and on. Cursed? Jinxed?
