One thing I don't want to hear on offense

I want more run based offense to take pressure off Dak. I also want to draft offensive lineman or at least bring in some guys in the trenches. I feel we need to keep Dak healthy as possible and take pressure off of him. Love Dak or hate him he is the key to us having offensive success and we need to protect him, aide him and to your point mix things up so defenses won’t be able to guess (as easily as in the past) what we’re doing.
They have done nothing to help Dak. No viable running backs on the roster, no offensive line help, no wide receiver help. Hoping you can plug and play rookies is a recipe for disaster.

.....and whilst we undoubtably need to increase the run (even to free up the secondary), what an embarrassment for Jerry and Dak that your top end QB needs so much increased support....indeed he now needs EVERYTHING.
It’s a good thing Jalen Hurts is so good and didn’t need to be surrounded by great players. If your QB is not surrounded by great players then you better have a great coaching staff that knows how to get the best out of all the players. I’m not saying Dak is the guy but he drew the short end of the stick when it has come to head coaches. Jason Garrett should have never been a head coach and McCarthy hasn’t been good for years. The game passed McCarthy by. We should stop blaming Dak and blame the real problem. This is all on Jerry and Stephen. It has been on them for 30 years. They don’t know how to negotiate or work the salary cap effectively. They think they can do everything via the draft. They are terrible at acquiring players via trades. They are horrible at choosing Head Coaches. In the last 30 years they have given us two decent QBs in Romo and Dak. Both were acquired via luck. One was undrafted and the other was a 4th round comp pick. That same year they drafted Dak they tried to get Payton Lynch instead. Hopefully Schotty proves me wrong but this just seems like another terrible decision when it comes to a HC. Who hires the OC from the HC you just fired?

I don't want to hear anyone on the offense saying “a lot of this offense looks the same as what we've been doing!" To me has much changed, they'll say it's different verbage, but it's familiar as last year. I think I'll throw up instantly if I hear this!

We need to get as far away as possible from anything that we've been doing, and get some new ideas and concepts in here!! Please give your thoughts
Dallas is going with the status quo approach if you haven’t noticed.

Schottenheimer was the biggest status quo hire ever.

This is going to make me sound like a Dak hater but the offense has been the same for last 10 years because the offense is fitted to Dak’s strengths. What the Cowboys need to do is go back to the two tight end approach so you cannot tell if the Cowboys are running or throwing the football. Dak played his best in a two tight end approach. Play action has always been Dak’s strength.

The 'real problem', as you describe it INCLUDES Dak's inability to maintain composure when at the most critical moments....your deflecting blame on OC's and HC, that helped Dak to 3 straight 12-5 seasons....
You can't have the total blame on the coaching, when the ball and our failures continued in those play-off moments.

I'll have to agree with you....the TCO suits Dak, he can snap and deliver....he dreads going through progressions as he struggles to read defenses.
Similarly, THE CURL, well he can hit that route, moving on any kind of slant and his arm/accuracy tends to fail him.
This is the basis of the Dak 'hate' he's too limited and a good defense doesn't have to do much to stop him (as soon as Dak's out of his ADMITTEDLY EXCELLENT COMFORT ZONE).

Yes this^. Any team, QB, is more successful when you have a fairly dominant Oline coupled with a good RB, and a HC/OC with the wherewithal to lean on that heavily. Nothing else matters if you cannot do this.

Yep, the problem is that Dak also needs the Defense to be pretty much lights out to perform.... Dak's not going to win a shoot out nor a late game winning drive....especially with the added pressure that a play-off game brings.
Maybe, a push behind the 2023 GB lose, at All-In chips in on improving the Defense would of done it.....but that windows closed.

It seems odd to me that we would be expecting a major offensive overhaul. It looks like 80% of your starters will return along with the OC being promoted to HC. We will certainly see tweaks. I think we likely see an upgrade at the RB position via the draft. I also fully believe that Shotty has every intention of playing more off the run game and working in more balanced looks. The thing we need to remember though is that McCarthy spoke about doing this as well, especially after letting Kellen Moore leave. Its typically very easy to talk in the early months of the offseason about Xs and Os changes, but what happens when we fall behind in a game? What happens when we lose a player to injury? Does Schotty stick with his offseason planning or does he start throwing the football 40+ times? The issue we had under McCarthy was always when we got punched in the mouth early on, and I am way more focused on how a Shottenheimer team approaches adversity different than a McCarthy team.

Again, the blame goes on Jerry and Stephen. They are the ones that tied the team to Dak. Three straight 12-5 teams that were basically Dallas beating less talented teams and losing to the better teams. Did you think Dallas looked prepared in that last playoff game against GB? McCarthy should have been fired on the spot after that embarrassment. Should Garret have been kept around for almost a decade? It only took the Giants one year to figure Garrett wasn’t even a good OC much less a HC. All blame solely rest on our incompetent owner and GM. There were years we were close and they avoided making additional moves to help. And that includes the years with Romo.

We know it's Jerry's fault....but you're using that to absolve Daks part in the problem.

Oh and at last a Dak Fan has at last conceded that Dak got his 2nd place MVP beatibg up lesser teams.

as well they should. Patrick Mahomes aside that is the blue print for winning the SB. Having the trenches solid on both sides and be able to run. right now we got weak bookends on the OL. Steele can run block ok but hes hot garbage against the pass especially with the elite pass rushers. Guyton is young but he is also a project. so at least last year the Oloine was a mess. One receiver that could get any kind of separation

Id be cutting Steele but they wont. Its popular on this site to make a thread and outline Dak as the issue where hes only part of the problem. We got talent issues everywhere including the coaching staff. at least the past staff well see what this years does. The defense isn't much better
I wouldn't be against taking Membou at 12 if he was there.

Agreed and I'm kinda confused why we grabbed a slouch RB from FA for 3.5 million but let a younger/faster 1,000 yard rusher go for a possible 6.2 million.

Either way I'm for drafting a RB early, but why would the new HC state they want to emphasize the running game and then the FO degrades the RB position for a lousy 3 million?

I thought he was worth bringing back. He was also a pretty good receiving option.

I’m not a Dak fan. You should not assume something about someone you don’t know. I just choose not to blame Dak because the reason he is on the roster is because our terrible GM didn’t have a back up plan two times and caved to his agent twice for max contracts.

Y’all didn’t work this out yet? I thought you were going to have him at the ranch for a long weekend and become besties.

That aside, I’m no XO person, but wasn’t the major point of hiring Shoddy about familiarity for Prescott?

Unless I’m wrong I’d expect the offense to look very close to the same.
