For the record, I wa supportive of the trade and my comment can be found on page 16 of the thread

Nice..the reality is nobody here really knows what's going to happen, nor can they fix what's gonna happen. Why waste your time complaining about every single aspect of this team when you can just root for them to succeed on Sundays. That's all we can do anyway. The Cowboys could win a SB and I have no doubt in my mind we would have posters complaining about something. No doubt about it.

There’s some pure gold here:

https://cowboyszone.com/threads/amari-cooper-traded-to-cowboys-merged.418243/

“Consider it a monumental failure if we gave up more than a 3rd round draft pick”.
lol
There is a pretty large consensus there. I did not see any post from me in the first 10 pages but I was against the trade as well. Most of the consensus was that Jerry made a trade so, by historical results, it has to be a bad move. (ie. Galloway and Williams)

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut.......

I was right though about my main gripe with the trade. It bailed out Dak and he is set for a big payday in Dallas. Without Cooper his life here in Dallas was not going to last long.

Dak has stepped up though so , so be it.

You sounded angry about the Cooper trade hahahaha.

That was nothing compared to the anger I felt when the Cowboys passed on Randy Moss. Had this site been here back then, I would have been benched at minimum, or most likely banned.

I said it then and I'll say it now. You only trade away a first round pick during the season if you think you are one piece away from a SB run.

We did it to save the season. And save Jason Garrett's job.

Neither of those reasons makes the cut.

What cut, yours?
And this is why you post about such things and are not a GM in the NFL. :muttley:

You do it to improve, not necessarily being 1 player away. In this case is is one of several pieces added for long term success. Not a one year rental.

I'm just looking the facts straight in the eye. They are the best run organization in football and its been that way for a long time. Comparing them to the cowboys and our clown of a GM is laughable.

a 2nd is rich for Sanu. I actually think because they're such a great team / organization that the opposite can be true a lot of times. They don't operate under the same model, or constraints or rationale as any other teams in the league, and can afford to overpay 'just because' and get away with it. I think Sanu can/will be a great addition for them, and no one will care about the 2nd rounder when it comes time, but still think they overpaid in general.

I disagree with this because Amari wasn't traded for to be a one year boost to the team. He was traded for to be a help both immediately and in the future, and it was obvious that for the team to compete both immediately and in the future it would need to dramatically upgrade at WR. It happened that the Raiders were trading away a lot of players last year, so the Cowboys were able to take advantage. Of course, for the plan to work they are going to have to be able to extend Cooper beyond this season.

I get where you are coming from. But in my mind, the Cowboys owe us a SB win this season. Just for pulling the trigger on Cooper last season with their first round pick and failing to get at least an NFC Championship out of it.

And if they don't deliver and then wind up not being able to retain Cooper, they are the biggest 'tards on the planet.

Just my two cents.

He has been a great weapon. Would have been nice to have negotiated an extension prior to the trade however. Not sure it is a good trade if it turns out to be a 1.5 season rental.

To think that the Raiders could have given the money that AB got to Amari.

Reading through that thread. Some serious crow eating needs done.

But we had crow three weeks in a row. It's a bye week, so this victory celebration must last us two weeks. Bring on the roast beast and Who pudding!

Yep, that sounds about right - I was not fond of the move and Amari had disapeared in Oakland! There was no evidence of this Amari at that time!

What do you think a year later?

Coop’s production, plus the fact that the pick we traded ended up being 27th overall, makes it worth it, in my opinion.

Also think Coop is a better fit for Dak than Dez was.
I don’t think Dez was ever going to develop chemistry with Dak anywhere near the level he had with Romo. And that’s NOT a knock on any of them. Just didn’t “fit” all that well.

I think it's amazing what a change of team can do for a player. Oakland's Oline was a complete disaster and effected every player on that team. Cooper is a much better fit for Dak that's for sure and Dez was his own worst enemy - I had always said that.

The 27th pick ended up being a steal and Dak's improvement helps the situation it has put us in contract wise with both of them.
