Too bad the head coach you love isnt. They made an outstanding trade. They just got better and they can still make other moves. Joey Porter is an outstanding corner. He is one of the best in the league.
No one - I would realistically want them to do nothing, Porter doesnt fix the sieve that is the run defense, he doesnt fix the pass rush issues as much as you guys want to pretend having a good corner makes pass rushing better.Without reading your whole post due to time, my question to you is who would you realistically go after, that is available by trade or whatever?
You are not wrong about it dire need at DE right now and any one of us can make a legit argument that Jones did a crappy job addressing that (even though they did try, they unlike many previous years), but that ship has sailed and the milk has been spilled for some time now.
Right now, in the current, the who is realistically available that we can realistically get withouy giving up the farm (that is quite thin already) that would be any different than what we have already?
Like I said, we will have our struggles til some of our young guys get some traction under their feet if that even happens and we have to live with that.
We did get a guy that does fill a big need on our defense and that was because he was available. We will see what happens with the pass rush going forward.
No. Id rather us be honest with ourselves.I believe some prefer ua being bad so they can complain
So are the people who think this team is any good. The complainers are crazy.
player acquisition isn't shopping at Wal-Mart where whatever you need is available pretty much whenever you need it.Cowboys defense is trash and needs multiple players.
A good chance that they do a lot better than you think. So are the people who think this team is any good.
Doubt that i had them at under 9 wins this season.A good chance that they do a lot better than you think.
Also, Porter may have been the best deal on the tableDumb post
Who said cowboys can’t also go get a pass rusher?
This idea that oh we traded for the wrong player / position is so naive and stupid. Cowboys defense is trash and needs multiple players. Get as many good players on this defense as you can get. Now go get a pass rusher too before the deadline
Well we didn't pay squat for him. I don't see any harm, but only good in the move.No one - I would realistically want them to do nothing, Porter doesnt fix the sieve that is the run defense, he doesnt fix the pass rush issues as much as you guys want to pretend having a good corner makes pass rushing better.
They are allowing 180 yards on the ground a game.I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of the man that Jerry Jones is, greed is an ugly outlier.. BUT- We all have been clamoring for our team to make moves for good players when the chance is there and Porter is a big upgrade over what we currently have for the short term so there isn't not much to like about it, especially in our depleted secondary. I might be in the minority here, but I feel like stopping the run is something we're going to be better at, but secondary has a big lack of talent that can stay on the field.
Not saying this trade is a for sure just saying if they can keep Downs closer to the line because the secondary is competent that will help the run defense.. they need secondary help and pass rush thats the problem the move not bad it just doesn't complete this Jones built defense. They are allowing 180 yards on the ground a game.
They were actually worse against Baltimore - And i dont care that they stopped Henry twice.
What do you mean?Is there a law that says we have to get the pass rusher first? How about we obtain good players when we have a chance.
We have played 12 Dbs and its only week 3.
Anyone thinking this D was going to be anything other than a work in progress this season was deluded. Anyone thinking the D that was implementing a new system with new coaches and a crap load of new players would be good 3 weeks in are just stupid.
Even Jimmy didn't come in and wave a magic wand and fix everything in one year. Give Parker a chance.
Schotty on the other hand...better start making better choices. Especially at the end of games.
The Houston game is a tossup. The Cowboys have a decdnt shot at a win. The Cowboys should beat the Bucs. A good chance that the Cowboys will be 3 and 2. Then you have the Packers and the Eagles. The Cowboys could win either one of these games or even win both of them. As you go through the season the Cowboys have a decent chance of winning the division. To go off the deep end now is ridiculous. You should be happy that they just added Joey Porter. That gives them another player to build around. What do you mean?
Have you been on this board?
This team was going to be a contender this year if you believed half of what was written.
Oh yes.The Houston game is a tossup. The Cowboys have a decdnt shot at a win. The Cowboys should beat the Bucs. A good chance that the Cowboys will be 3 and 2. Then you have the Packers and the Eagles. The Cowboys could win either one of these games or even win both of them. That gives them another player to build around.
All of what you said is true unless you view it through the prism of 2027 and beyond.....and then it becomes a "maybe"Only the Dallas Cowboys could look at a defense with TWO sacks in three games and decide the missing piece was a cornerback.
Not a pass rusher.
Not someone who can collapse the pocket.
Not someone capable of making a quarterback feel even mildly inconvenienced.
A cornerback.
The Cowboys have zero sacks over the last two games. Opposing quarterbacks have enough time in the pocket to make a sandwich, check their email, update their fantasy lineup and then wait for somebody to come open.
So Jerry Jones looked at that mess and said, “You know what would fix this? Let’s trade a future second-round pick for Joey Porter Jr.”
Brilliant.
That’s like watching your house burn down and ordering a new doorbell.
Porter is at his best when he can get physical and play press-man coverage. Dallas plays a zone-heavy system roughly 70 percent of the time.
So naturally, the Cowboys traded premium draft capital for a corner whose best skill doesn’t match the defense they currently run.
Either change the scheme or explain what the hell the plan is.
Because right now, the plan appears to be asking Porter to cover receivers for nine seconds while the defensive line politely waits for the quarterback to finish reading the entire field.
And it gets better.
Porter hasn’t played a single game this season because of a back injury. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and reportedly wants more than $30 million per season.
Dallas gave up a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick for the privilege of inheriting the injury, the contract dispute and the questionable scheme fit.
Oh, and Porter has committed 38 penalties in three seasons.
That part actually makes perfect sense.
Dallas led the NFL with 133 accepted penalties last season, so at least they found someone who already understands the culture.
Welcome to the Cowboys, Joey. Your jersey, locker and weekly holding penalty are ready.
To be clear, Porter is a talented player. He could absolutely improve this secondary.
But cornerback was not the fire currently burning down the building.
The fire is a pass rush with two sacks in three games and none since Week 1. The fire is opposing quarterbacks standing comfortably in the pocket until someone eventually gets open. The fire is a defense that cannot finish a pressure, end a drive or get off the field when it matters.
A great corner can help a pass rush by making the quarterback hold the ball longer.
But eventually, somebody still has to sack him.
Dallas apparently forgot that part.
This is what the Cowboys always do. They make the loud move instead of the logical move. Jerry gets a recognizable name, the media gets a week of content and fans are expected to pretend the defense has been fixed.
Meanwhile, the pass rush still couldn’t get home if you gave it a GPS and paid for the tolls.
Only the Dallas Cowboys could have no pass rush, run a zone-heavy defense and solve both problems by trading a premium pick for an injured press-man corner who needs a massive new contract.
Jerry Jones isn’t building a defense.
He’s collecting names.
