Only Jerry Jones could do this. And our fans will eat it up

Oh yes.

Jerry has inspired confidence in signing players in the last year of their deals long term lately....

What you arent understanding is IM not MAD at the player. I just look at this team differently now, get ready for Jerry's favourite type of off-season. One where the Cowboys contract negotations are front and center after yet another failed season.

You didnt address the HC concerns.

Shocking.
I think you are talking to a family member of the Jones clan. Or, one of their female Cheerleaders.

i love the trade.
bland and revell are our 2 best cb's and revell is hurt.
outside of downs, bland and revell...our secondary is crap.
porter is desperately needed.
and this should help the pass rush.
I like your logic here......but its not going to move the needle this season.

Lets see the defense get to at least top 20 ( still below average) before looking further ahead.

I do like this move for the future because the GM finally realized that if you can't draft it ; buy it.

I like the coaches. No concern at this point for me. They can turn it around and build with Porter, Q. Williams, Downs, Barham, and some of the others.

They are allowing 180 yards on the ground a game.

They were actually worse against Baltimore - And i dont care that they stopped Henry twice.
running qbs have been not good for us, that contributes to yards allowed, my eyes see us improving physically, but maybe my eyes lie, we shall see.

Only the Dallas Cowboys could look at a defense with TWO sacks in three games and decide the missing piece was a cornerback.

Not a pass rusher.

Not someone who can collapse the pocket.

Not someone capable of making a quarterback feel even mildly inconvenienced.

A cornerback.

The Cowboys have zero sacks over the last two games. Opposing quarterbacks have enough time in the pocket to make a sandwich, check their email, update their fantasy lineup and then wait for somebody to come open.

So Jerry Jones looked at that mess and said, “You know what would fix this? Let’s trade a future second-round pick for Joey Porter Jr.”

Brilliant.

That’s like watching your house burn down and ordering a new doorbell.

Porter is at his best when he can get physical and play press-man coverage. Dallas plays a zone-heavy system roughly 70 percent of the time.

So naturally, the Cowboys traded premium draft capital for a corner whose best skill doesn’t match the defense they currently run.

Either change the scheme or explain what the hell the plan is.

Because right now, the plan appears to be asking Porter to cover receivers for nine seconds while the defensive line politely waits for the quarterback to finish reading the entire field.

And it gets better.

Porter hasn’t played a single game this season because of a back injury. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and reportedly wants more than $30 million per season.

Dallas gave up a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick for the privilege of inheriting the injury, the contract dispute and the questionable scheme fit.

Oh, and Porter has committed 38 penalties in three seasons.

That part actually makes perfect sense.

Dallas led the NFL with 133 accepted penalties last season, so at least they found someone who already understands the culture.

Welcome to the Cowboys, Joey. Your jersey, locker and weekly holding penalty are ready.

To be clear, Porter is a talented player. He could absolutely improve this secondary.

But cornerback was not the fire currently burning down the building.

The fire is a pass rush with two sacks in three games and none since Week 1. The fire is opposing quarterbacks standing comfortably in the pocket until someone eventually gets open. The fire is a defense that cannot finish a pressure, end a drive or get off the field when it matters.

A great corner can help a pass rush by making the quarterback hold the ball longer.

But eventually, somebody still has to sack him.

Dallas apparently forgot that part.

This is what the Cowboys always do. They make the loud move instead of the logical move. Jerry gets a recognizable name, the media gets a week of content and fans are expected to pretend the defense has been fixed.

Meanwhile, the pass rush still couldn’t get home if you gave it a GPS and paid for the tolls.

Only the Dallas Cowboys could have no pass rush, run a zone-heavy defense and solve both problems by trading a premium pick for an injured press-man corner who needs a massive new contract.

Jerry Jones isn’t building a defense.

He’s collecting names.
I understand that sentiment, but there also has to be a willing trade partner and there also has to be fair value for that player. I would imagine most teams aren't willing to trade their premier pass rusher early in the season for anything less than significant draft capital. So more than likely there just wasn't a palatable deal there for a pass rusher.

The Cowboys saw an opportunity for a disgruntled corner that his team wanted to move during a time the Cowboy's secondary was depleted. Plus I'm sure there's some thought that if Porter is better in coverage maybe the QB holds the ball a little longer which gives the existing pass rush more opportunities at sacks. No doubt that the secondaries ability to hold up in coverage go hand in hand with the dline having time to get to the QB and vice versa.

The Cowboys absolutely stole Porter from the Steelers. The rest of the league was asleep at the wheel and Porter wanted to go to Dallas.

Yup

Jerry loves the limelight. Takes the spotlight off of his incompetent coach. Don't think this will fix the defense much. I guess the sentiment is we never do anything in the second round anyway. Wait until we try to negotiate his new contract. That could be epic. I don't care what he says now. He has no loyalty to the Cowboys.
no matter what he does this is what you will say. Oh, he got pickens just to get in the media. Oh he didnt sign Michael because this keeps the media talking about the Cowboys during the off season. Oh look, he traded Michael right as the season is kicking off because he wants the media attention. WEll attention all dummies!!! Hear ye, hear ye, the Cowboys are talked about all year, no matter what Jerry does or doesnt do.So give that same old tired song a rest.

You gotta be careful around here saying anything positive right? Yeah, I do see us on an upward trajectory, Just haven't seen the results yet...
An early indication was stopping Henry in short yardage. Also the pass rush gets better. There’s a big difference between Jackson and the Texans qb and they have greatly improved the secondary with the addition of Porter.
