Mel Kiper’s mock draft this week. He has the Cowboys selecting University of Texas running back Bijan Robinson with the 26th overall pick.
Man, I so want a first-round DT. As I did a few years ago with the offense, I believe making one unit elite is the best way to go. The defense played very well in the playoffs, but we were beaten by an elite one.

Right now, I believe we have a better chance of being elite on defense than on offense, but of course, that progress might stop if Quinn leaves.

But you still have Dak and his inaccuracy. Dak is the constant. We would lose with DHop if Dak can hit the side of a barn. None of these ideas will work with Dak at QB. He has shown us his limitations. We gotta accept them.
Kurt Warner has repeatedly shown that Dak has a higher degree of difficultly than many other QBs because of poor route combinations and poor route running.

Question is how do you pay for that talent. You are already overpaying for under performers now. Dak, zeke, Gallup, Schultz.

1. Solidify OL.
2. Draft RBs
3. Cut Zeke
4. Give Pollard a team friendly offer to be “the man”
5. Force Dak to run the ball

If you sign A.J. Brown, Megatron in his prime, Jerry Rice, and prime Randy Moss, Dak is still going to throw behind them, in the dirt and to the defenders.

Maybe we should sign corners to play receiver so they can break up all these interceptions.

It’s slightly sarcastic. But it’s not that far off the mark.
It's way off the mark.

Watch the Kurt Warner review of the Niners game.

I prefer to sign DT Daron Payne.

The Cowboys draft some positions better than others. Drafting DTs has not been their strongsuit.

No, Dak needs route running technicians at WR and TE.
I disagree. The offense needs speed, you can't have an offense with route runners and no speed. That would open up everything to work underneath, over the top and open up the run game as well.

Disagree about Zeke and Pollard. Do Not tag Pollard. Need to see his recovery from broken leg.
Zeke takes pay cut, and draft a RB.

Invest the $$$ from tagging Pollard in the OL. Offer Pollard a 1 year incentive laden contract. Or 2 year reasonable paid contract with incentives.
Good points. I have no problem with doing this.

It's the casual fan perspective every year.

Similar to fans that want a DT built like a Sumo wrestler.

In 2015 you can have slow Larry Fitzgerald or super fast Brice Butler.

No GM or coach in the world would pick Butler over Fitzgerald.but

I'd prefer it, too, but I don't think it is realistic. The Joneses haven't shown that they are willing to change their free agent game plan.

The Cowboys have done poorly drafting DTs because they haven't prioritized it. They either end up reaching (like they did with Hill) or taking a flawed one or flawed ones from the third round on. You can hit on those, but there are a lot more misses.

Here's a list of Pro Football Network's top 10 DTs this year: Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Jeffery Simmons, Quinnen Williams, Dexter Lawrence, Cameron Heyward, DeForest Buckner, Jonathan Allen, Kenny Clark and Christian Wilkins. Only Chris Jones was taken out of the first round, but barely at No. 37.

Now, there are other top tackles who were taken outside of the first round, but the list gets a lot slimmer when you get outside of the top 40.

Heyward might be a cap cut for the Steelers...
