Maybe you don't read so well. I said point blank I am happy it happened like that. That doesn't change the fact that telling the team half way through the draft was a hose job.

Tell me how did that affect Dallas regardless of when witten announced it? I don' think it did, in fact I believe you are overexaggerating big time.

I'm happy for Witten, but does anyone else feel that :espn: may be crossing the line by going after a current player? Imagine if they talked someone like Brady or Belichek to retire for a TV job.

I said this weeks ago when he first interviewed and caught a bunch of grief. I contend the nfl should protect teams by having something in their tv contracts preventing networks from doing this. And yes I believe in free markets and the players being able to do whatever they want for their career. I just think the player should have to make the first move. If you owned a company and had a contract with some other company and that contract gave them up close contact with your employees, would you be okay with them trying to poach your best and brightest? I don’t think so. I’m happy for Witten and wish him well. It was probably time for him to go but if he was planning on playing another year or two, the networks should not be enticing him or anyone to retire. They are a partner with the nfl and should respect the teams enough to wait until players retire on their own. Now, maybe Witten did make the first call. If he did then the network did nothing I would consider wrong.

I think Witten was thinking about retiring before we ever found out and the FO knew it.
I don't think he needed to be offered a broadcasting job to consider retirement.
I think it was just the timing that may get fans riled up.
IMO
IM betting the moment Romo left he pondered it but 16 was too sweet that got his juices flowing again..IMO 2019 was his last year anyway..so he left for asweet opportunity..

yes Corporate world headhunt all the time..you cant do it within the leagues but outside , sure..

I think it actually affected it in a positive way. They were unable to react to it, which is a good thing.

Were any of them current players, though?
I heard Payton Manning turned it down and Brett Favre was awful in his audition.
poor Brett...he came up to the booth when we played Green Bay and beat them in regular season 2016...and he sounded Ok but not special

But I can tell you that Witten pretty much screwed us with his timing. Telling us on the 2nd day of the draft that he probably isn't coming back? Jerk move if you ask me. But like I said, I'm almost glad it happened like that.

Shh. Fall in line and bow when instructed.

Just your opinion. Unless you can provide a quote proving otherwise. Just one saying we had no idea.....
The fact that we signed no one at te in fa is telling. But by all means believe what you want.

Its telling?
What does it tell exactly?
Ah, only what you want it to tell.
Unless you have proof then you are just making it up.
Keep in mind this FO is the same FO that has made some of the dumbest personnel moves in the NFL. So you can't possibly know anything based on what they decide personnel wise.

I think Jason Witten finally realized that if he did stay that the media would force him to have to split time and not play every snap. It works out better for Witten because he has created a legacy of playing every snap for 15 years . Why not go pursue another career where he can leave that legacy and actually move forward at something he can Excel at? He's not staying if he's not playing every snap Don't kid yourselves. Where is the depth behind Witten. Nothing but a bunch of skeletons .
