I'm not as down on the O-line run blocking... I'm really not. We're still seeing all these goofy combinations that won't be out there when we start the season.

BP needs to stop playing around and decide on his starters for the O line and start working them like crazy. Right now the run blocking is putrid and we have no idea how good the line will be at picking up blitzes.

well... I sure wish we start getting some kind of order out there because it is a bit worrisome to me

With the O-line, I question wether it is the players or the coaching...I mean really, how about a good o-line coach instead of a TV actor who acts like a mobster.

The Saints are pretty bad so I trying to keep my enthusiam below a Super bowl guarantee. :)

That said, yes, both Qbs can play. Romo would make more plays out of nothing and also make more mistakes which is exactly whyt here was never a QB controversy. Romo will get his shot much like Brady in case of injury. After a half dozen games he may be hard to replace as well.

OL:
McQuistan was simply outmanned at times with the 1st unit. He was good when he got his hands on guys but the Saints were twisting and slanting and our OL was simply not ready for it. Against our DL they just get pimp-slapped, no need for trickery.:)
We need a healthy Flo because he can punish guys. He is just physically gifted beyond belief.
We need to settle RT. Fabini made some savvy vet blocks but also looked rather unathletic and plain goofy a bit as well. He definitely palys better than he looks. He looks like Mickey Rivers out there all wobbly kneed and fragile then gets his blocks for the most part.
I am not on the OL is gonna kill us bandwagon but I am also not so silly as to siggest it isn't the weakest area on an otherwise fairly outstanding team.

Vanderjagt is worrying me a bit but apparently he has struggled through the groin stuff for a few years and as long as he isn't kicking off he can make it to games and nail his 70% or whatever.

The Saints Dbs are bad so I can't get overly excited about the WRs. Now, Terry Glenn is an exception. Those plays he made were breathtaking. If he makes those plays and TO is on the field? I don't even wanna think about it for fear of violating my super bowl guarantee tenet.

Ware staying with Bush was amazing as was Ellis tracking some Rb in the flat. He will be outrun occasionally but if Ellis funnels guys properly he is gonna be ok because those smallr players do not want to get hit by Greg Ellis. He is a big boy playing OLB. If he does catch a guy like Bush in a stutter or cut back the poor guy is gonna need new pants because his will be blown out.

The entire first defense is ridiculously good. Who wouda thunk it? Our LB corps is so good the 16th pick in the draft can't even make 1 of the 4 starting spots? WOW! We have coem a long, long way on defense. All that said, its kinda hard not to wish we had used that pick to trade down to late round 1 and snag a couple of OL, rofl.

I like where this team is right now, still a lot of work to do and would like to see more out of the running game by for the most part this team is looking pretty good right now.

Honestly given how good this defense could be coupled with the talent we have in the passing game... I'm just not that concerned about the running game. Last year we averaged 3.6 ypc. I'm guessing we'll be around 3.8 this year. Not great but good enough to make this a playoff team.

I agree...I'm not too concerned about the running game either. And I wonder what changes in the run blocking scheme the coaching staff will employ in a real game?

My worry is about Vandy. What's his deal? Can he really still kick, or is he stalling because something is wrong with him?

Mike my problem is that if the team leans too much on Bledsoe it is just asking for trouble

I don't disagree on that... BUT if they can keep sacks down to about 2.5 per game Bledsoe should do OK.

I think this is going to be a pass-first offense.

And it will lean on the defense... this could be a very special defense.

This is actually the first game I've watched this year. I did not think the running game was all that bad. Starters did some nice things. Gotta remember that the strength of the Saints team is there defensive line. They have some quality players up front. I don't know that we can afford injury to our OL at all but I did think the OL did a nice job all around last night. In years past, you always saw the center in the QBs grill or the running game getting stuffed by penatration right up the middle. I didn't notice that so much last night.

I don't believe our WRs are as good as they looked last night but I do like the possability of the top three guys. Once there all together on the field, I think that's going to be a tough match up. I like the TE play last night as well. I thought our defense played very well but I also thought the Saints played terribly on offense. I don't believe they are going to be able to pass protect very well this year. I was also not very impressed with there run blocking. They were very vanilla last night. Both sides of the ball. Our safeties really never got tested at all IMO. Until that happens, we won't really know how good our pass defense will be. I thought it was pretty clear that Bledsoe is the starter. Any talk of Romo starting over Bledsoe, at this point, should die a quick death now but it won't. Romo played well and he appears to be a dependable back up QB at this point but the real bullets are not flying yet and everything changes when you go to real speed games as opposed to these pre season contests. I think we still need Bledsoe and if he goes down for an extended perioed, we are done.

I am very excited about this defense. I haven't seen them tested against a real power running team yet. The Saints are basically made to order for our defense. The teams that run the ball well between the tackles are the teams that I want to see us do well against.

I would not call the special teams horrible but I would be very close to labling them as such. Not impressed at all. FG kifckers were OK but there not the guys we should be seeing so I have to say that even thou we had success in that area, we are still doing horribly because of Vander******** issues this season.

Regarding our pass rush...we stayed base pretty much the entire first half...were bringing a three man rush. You shouldn't be able to get a ton of pressure that way. In fact, I think we only blitzed a hand full of times. The Saints by comparison, blitzed a lot and were not overly successful. One of their sacks came on a complete miscommunication between Kosier and McQ.

It is looking like another long year in NO. There is a large talent gap between our two teams.

I'm kinda glad the Saints got Reggie Bush. Those fans need something to look forward to. Sure, I'm as tired of hearing about Bush as I am about TO's destruction of the Cowboys, but he does have the talent.

Good luck to New Orleans.

Even when Flo was in for the first drive, JJ had to make some nice moves in the backfield to avoid tackles for loss.

Well, that's what RB's are supposed to do. Unless you're Troy "One Cut Move Every 6 Months" Hambrick.

the good:

1) we have good QB play from two guys, and if something did happen to Bledsoe the season wouldnt necessarily be over

2) run defense looks better than past couple seasons

3) I see absolutely no reason to be concerned with the WR position, incl depth

4) we have good depth on defense

areas of concern:

1) pass rush was decent last week, almost non-existant tonight

2) special teams look ho-hum, and prized kicker signing is having a terrible camp and is now hurt

getting close to panic time:

1) this OL stinks, period. they cant run block a lick...guys shoot into the backfield untouched on almost every running play...Bill Parcells is going to regret not getting a proven OL coach

the problem isnt the RB's folks...

if I were Jones, Parcells and Ireland I'd be on the horn asap looking for help on the OL

David

though not perfect..the OL has given up few sacks and has maintained good drives..with a hobbling Flo and even without..they already are looking for more help..so you may be overstating the case a tad...

Parcells was not worried about the running game thus far in light of the production in the offense overall...upgrades would be great but it is not
an aweful line.

Not only that, Payton used a lot of 3 WR sets against the defense and we just stayed with the base set. Out of that, Brees used a lot of 3 step drops, throwing to the flats.

I'm more concerned about the pass rush from our backups than I was with the first team.
