Same as LVE?

A little different but same concept. I can't remember which surgery LVE had, so if anyone can remember that'd be helpful. His cervical stenosis is essentially the joint or spinal segment placing pressure on either the spinal cord or nerve root. I suspect his was more of the joint putting pressure on the nerve root hence the stingers. When the neck extends it closes the joints on that side, with even less room in the joint due to stenosis he doesnt like direct impact tackles because his neck would go into extension and thereby irritate the nerve root.

Different than a discectomy because the joints are just fine typically in those situations. The disc was putting more pressure on the nerve or cord. Direct impact shots shouldn't irritate it in this case. Especially more with a fusion. If that makes sense.

When a player goes IR is there a minimum amount of games they have to miss ? 4 seems to be the number .

Off topic, but I have a question for you Doc.

Had my 5th cervical surgery last October. Foraminotomy at C5, Surgeon said root nerve was "extremely crushed" said would heal in a year. Nothing had changed, I still say nerve is damaged beyond repair. Is it possible for nerves not to heal? I've thought it was my issue for many years.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah idk man doesn’t really add up for me. Dak was injured week 1 after a whole healthy offseason, not sure how or what they rushed him back from week 1. Tyron got injured in camp, not in a rush back from anything.

I don’t really remember this happening but won’t crush you for your opinion
Don't forget Dak comes back ealry from the shoulder injury and clearly didn't have range of motion. He changes his mechanics and throwing motion and is considerably worse than before the injury. Ty comes back too early from a back injury and over compensates for it, and hurts something else. The list goes on and on of athletes coming back too early and they compensate by having other issues. I don't think there is any doubt that Dak has not been the same since his ankle broke apart, and his tentativeness in the pocket and inability to run can clearly be traced back to what happened to him

The more LB’s the merrier as far as I’m concerned!

And Malik Davis this week? Give the dude a few touches and let’s see what he’s got.

Yeah what shoulder? The one that kept him out of camp and he walked in game one at Tampa last year and lit it up? In fact 7 games in a row he lit it up lol.

Saying a guy is different after an injury and saying he rushed back are two totally different things. Dak hasn’t rushed back from the shoulder or ankle. What’s crazy is you’re the first person who’s ever even said this on the forum.

But yes in general getting back early can compromise other parts.

Again I will state that subsequent injuries can be caused by a previous one. It was clearly stated by many that Dak's ankle injury could have caused issues with his ankle, and his throwin. I never said he wasn't effective, I clearly stated one can cause another. I am hardly the only person to mention this by the way

Typically a nerve will heal slowly over time , with the foraminactomy the nerve root most likely had a good amount of root irritation. A year out, there is a concept called double crush. This essentially means there might be another region along the nerve distribution that's putting pressure on the nerve anywhere from the neck to fingers. Could be simple as a tight pec, scalene muscle, first rib or collar bone stiffness putting pressure on that nerve. Which would make it feel like the nerve hasn't healed yet

Thank you so much for the info Doctor.

I've been researching it for over 10 years because of my issues and I've never heard of the double crush. I'm going to look into that. Although maybe it's what my doctor means when he says that the scar tissue (3 surgeries were posterior) build up on the branch nerve could be part of the issue.

Never had any pain in my neck, just constant debilitating pain in my right shoulder. I've never believed the scar tissue causing pain because I've had the exact pain that I've had before I started the surgeries.

Won't take up any more of your time, but thank you very much for your reply. You gave me some new information and I can research. I'm still hoping that one day the nerve will heal, I cannot give up the hope. Thanks again Doc and have a great day!

Yeah definitely look up double crush types of injury. I don't exactly buy the scar tissue reason as well. Additionally look up nerve glides for median nerve; you may benefit from it ! Always. If you have any followup questions just reach out.

I think Clark will eventually take Barr’s spot later in the season. LVE is safe for now.
