Opinion: Give Mr Parker a chance

I’m fine with giving the defense more time, but we also need to have a real conversation about what that looks like. We reevaluating mid season or are we talking about the Jason Garrett decade plan?

Also what does improvement really look like? Is a defense that starts out horrific and plays closer to the 20th overall defense the rest of the way considered a win? Do we need to see more than that?

What I dislike the most is what I see in the scheme. He doesn't seem to have clue about pressure. The early returns on player development is scary. The commitment to zone / cloud coverage in the secondary is also really bad. I have seen much of a difference game 1 to 5. He is off to a really bad start.

We’re talking about this year. You might as well bring up the 30 years.
It reflects on the culture. Season is still young. In 5 years they will still rank number one over a ten year span if they don't make serious changes.

After all the BS that was spread about him being the savior of the defense and anointing him as an instant HC candidate, all before he had even coached his first game as a DC, I think he should be shown the door.

He's nothing more than yet another project guy who is learning on the job. A typical Jerry hire.
Typical I-told-you-so Cowboy “fan” who was just waiting for him to struggle so that they can dunk on him.

Bill Parcels worked at Pizza Hut while he was in college and was out of coaching college football before the Giants hire him. He was actually working for a land development company. I guess he learned a few things on the job, too, huh?

It worked out okay for him.

The “idiot” is coaching in the NFL. What does that make you?
No matter who Jerry hired it would’ve been the same.

You don't hire a DC to learn OTJ. You hire a DC that is already qualified with the necessary knowledge and skill set required. Experience is something else altogether and is the variable that can be adjusted for if you find a truly talented young up-and-comer, which is what this FO thought they had found.

We are making high school mistakes with middle school effort every stinking game. It's beyond a joke.

Stupid OP.

However, at this point the Jones’s are not going to change course and I don’t know that I want them to. I want Jerry to publicly eat this ish sandwich he cooked up every week of the season. Maybe someone in the Dallas media will show some spine and ask him how it tastes.
Dick Lebaeu and Buddy Ryan were defensive line and backs coaches before they were promoted to defensive coordinator.

Did they not learn on the job, too?

I said the unit has a chance to be league average near the end of season. We will see what happens

I would think as a DC you'd have a bag you could dig into when things aren't going well to right the ship. But since this dude has never been a DC before, it's painfully obvious he has no bag to dig into. Unless you are some defensive prodigy at that age, theres no way you should be leading a defense with such a weak play book. You have to be able to look at the product and see that it's not working and get in your bag and find something that works. They still can't pressure thr qb, can't stop the run and can't cover anyone. Seems to me you either have to find help coaching wise in someone who has experience or simplify things and work on improving some aspect of your defense weather it's coverage or stopping the run. This all could have been identified in preseason had we had the 1s working together instead of a collection of bodies protecting your valuable assets.
Maybe you should try reaching in bag with players like Reddy Steward in it.

Fangio couldn’t make players who don’t belong on the League work.

Did you read my post lol?

I said experience was the one variable you could control for when selecting a coordinator IF (<<<see this word “if” I put in) capital letters?) they had the requisite skill, knowledge, and talent. You don't hire a guy to b your DC so he can then develop the “requisite skill and knowledge” That should be onboarded and baked into the selection criteria for the position

Parker’s defense has looked lost on an elementary, basic level and his players are giving even worse effort. That's not the sign of a “talented, but inexperienced coordinator”. It is a HORRIBLE start for someone supposedly highly competent and any criticism about his abilities at this point is perfectly justified.

Read a post before you respond and stick your foot in your mouth after a side stop in your anus.

The problem is it is hard to be win now while the leaders are learning on the job. There is not enough experience/ veteran leadership on the defensive side of the ball. By the time these young coaches get things going Dallas will have missed Daks last window of opportunity to try to win anything.

Shirley you folks didn't start a new position and set the world on fire first few weeks.

Good lawd

Go Cowboys!
When there's only 32 defensive coordinator positions available in the NFL, you shouldn't be this gosh-darn awful at doing your job.

Especially when the team that hired you went heavy duty on defensive in the draft, free agency and trades.

At this point we have to give him the chance to succeed but we all see he's floundering.

Just like we gave Romo a chance? Just like we’ve given Dak a chance? Just like we gave the clapper a chance? And the beat goes on and on and on!!!! Sure…give 5-6 years of on the job training. Hire somebody qualified for the position.
Romo and Dak were/are very good quarterbacks. The odds on replacing them with someone better are very low. We would likely go through 5-10+ QB’s who are worse before we land someone better. Even with a #1 pick you aren’t guaranteed anything. Do you really think Cam Ward or Fernando Mendoza would set the world on fire and be better than Dak anytime soon? Probably not. I would love Drew Mestemaker but he could easily climb up to #1 pick and become untouchable. So it’s not like it’d even be an option at that point.

I’d give Parker to the end of the season to show signs of improvement. If he can do that then he gets next year to show that the defense is legit good. If it doesn’t get any better throughout the season this year though I’d probably just let him walk after the season and count my losses. We still haven’t seen his defense with everyone healthy and Porter/Speed/Durant/Thompson/Downs as the full secondary. Obviously he has been a massive disappointment so far but at some point if there is zero continuity in the coaching staff and philosophy then players will quit buying in.

I think the front office needs to do a much better job at finding guys who can play his scheme or he needs to do a better job at changing his scheme to fit the players.

I think everyone with a brain on here was going to give the guy 8-10 weeks to get it right. My main issues now are that our fundamentals are crap. This isn't all about not knowing the scheme. We aren't tackling well. We aren't releasing from blocks. Blowing simple gap assignments. Don't get me started on the secondary. We are screwing up Pop Warner stuff.

If it's my team I would of fired parker and shotty already... Start milton and trade Dak.. True story..
