Opinion: Next week's game is officially meaningless

That is not true. If Seattle wins tonight, and then Arizona and Seattle both lose next week, we would be the #2 seed regardless of who wins the GB/Det game.

If this happens we can lose as well and have the bye anyway. At 11-5 we would get Seattle head to head.

I read this in the official forum I think there's a lot of confusion going on right now about our chances at the bye

"There is a chance to get the bye but I'm pretty sure the 1 seed is out of reach. Don't trust that simulator though. It's not correct.

There will be a 3 team tie at 12-4. Now this has been correctly mentioned already but only one team advances from the result of a tie-breaking procedure. The remaining two teams go into a two team tie break. Also realize that there can only 3-way tie amongst the division winners.

So at this point it's simple:
In order to get the bye want be tied with Detroit and Seattle in the 3-way tie for the 1 seed. Detroit would win that tie breaker and get the one seed.

Dallas and Seattle would be in a 2-way tie for the 2 seed and Dallas wins by virtue of the of the head to head matchup.

Detroit, Dallas, and Seattle would all have to win out."

This isn't true. In a 3 way tie we would lose to both seattle and Detroit and be the 3 seed.

Agree, at the least, play the first half. No need to lose that edge and momentum.
I agree.

What if we rest our starters lose and still get the bye? Too much time off. I wouldn't like it.

Play them into the third like we would the third preseason game and then evaluate.

Play for the bye and a great 12-4 season. Resting players would lead to a loss and a sloppy end to the season. The Cowboys had that happen in 07 at Washingon and it led to a one and done. I'm not saying don't rest a few players that need it but we can't treat this game like a meaningless preseason game it could cost us the momentum we've built up the past three weeks we're hot let's stay hot.

We want Sea to win tonight, SF and StL to win next week. What we do does not matter.

But what was said is that there's only one winner from a three way tie scenario which if Detroit wins out would be Detroit. So after that our tie-breaker over Seattle comes back into effect so yeah we need to win out. Also I'm pretty sure we would need Arizona & Seattle to lose to get the bye in the other scenario.

there are only TWO scenarios that can happen to get a BYE

1. IF seattle loses tonight the ONLY way to get a bye is WIN at wash but Green Bay and Lions must TIE which I highly doubt a tie will happen.

2. If Seattle wins tonight it doesn't matter if we lose to the Commanders, we could lose to the skins 1000-0 and if the RAMS win and the 49ers win, we get a bye.

No in a 3 way tie it comes down to conference record. Seattle and Detroit both win. Thus they get the 1 and 2 seed. Our win over seattle does not matter in this

It don't work like that.

Yeah I know but if I undestand this right that's why we need Detroit to win out too because since we're headed for a three way tie if that happens between us, Green Bay & Seattle then the Seahawks win that & get the one seed then Green Bay would get the two over us because the have a better conference record. If Detroit wins out they'll get the one seed because their conference record is better that Seattle & then our tie breaker over Seatlle kicks back in.

No. 3 way tie breaker comes down to conference record. Our win over seattle would mean nothing. Whether it's GB or Detroit it does not matter. If it's a 3 way tie the seeds will be ranked in order of conference wins. We would be 3 seed

We need seattle to win tonight and then lose next week. Arizona needs to lose too next week. Then we get 2 seed. That is the only way.

Are we sure we don't just want Arizona as an eminently beatable 1 seed

That would likely be the difference between going to Seattle in the NFC CCG or them coming to us in the NFC CCG if we advance that far. No matter what it looks like we will be playing the loser of the DET/GB game and then the winner in the next round, if we win.

The most likely scenario has us as a 3 seed. With that being the case who would you want to play in the first round in Dallas, Lions or Packers? The problem is that if in the second round we would need to travel to play the number 2 seed which will be either the Packers or Lions. So we are getting both anyway. Do we want the packers first in Dallas or want the easier first round game and then go face the packers in their home?

It's looking like the Super Bowl will require us to beat the packers on the road and then the Seahawks in Seattle....or course anything can happen still.

It's so nice finally being a part of this.

Sorry keep the momentum. Though this is a different team do not give them time to read their own press. Win and carry momentum or lose and see you need to maintain effort. The only bad scenario is to win or lose with 2nd stringers too much team ego if they win and too much "well it was the 2nd team."
