Twitter: Opinion: Scratch the Texans off the Romo list

ofcourse they are going to draft a Qb and it does not preclude them trading for Romo but that Assweiler contract if a killer.

To me, it's a price Texas will eventually have to pay because of the decision they made with Osweiler. To me, its a window discussion for Texas. They have a team, IMO, that could really challenge if they had good QB play. The real question is, will Texas be willing to wait the three seasons, or so, it would take to get a young QB up to speed and ready to seriously challenge for a Super Bowl or are they willing to be patient and wait and if they wait, are they rebuilding their team again because the window has closed?

I'm in complete agreement. They won their division and made the playoffs despite their quarterback. They've got a good running back, good receivers, and an adequate offensive line. And a dominant defense, even without Watt. If they got quality quarterback play, they could compete for a championship.

If they go with another year if Osweiler and a rookie, it's another year of a possible window wasted. You can't keep a good team together forever.

Romo is the one piece they need. Even if he and Osweiler cost $32 million for 2017, a shot at a title is worth it.

And they do have the cap room.

Houston is a team that has to go for it now, with that D, Watt coming back, good oline, good RB and great WR. They just missing a top 10 QB which they'd have with Romo. They know they ain't getting nowhere with Brock or with a rookie QB.

I think what McNair's intention might well be is to save the cost that Tony would likely command and go the bargain basement route in the draft. The Osweiler commitment is an extremely hefty one. I'm thinking he's likely feeling the pinch and wants to minimize the bleeding.

You would think the Texans are in a win now mode, the window doesn't stay open forever but maybe Romo's injuries and lack of playoff success has caused a lack of interest, along with the $16M they're on the hook for with Osweiler next season.

"We would love to trade a pick for a elite caliber, veteran QB" -McNair

Things he would never say even if true.

I didn't see anything in that quote to say Romo was coming. It's all up to the O'Brien anyway really.

Yep. Very unlikely Houston would tie that much money up in two QB's. Romo would be far too expensive, and risky, for the GM to take on. Imagine another early season injury to Tony. After the Osweiler mess the GM would be hard pressed to explain signing another high risk QB.

It's up to the owner.

Does he want to win? Tony gives him the best chance.

Does he just want to make money and waste all the talent on his team when the Brocketship eventually isn't good enough to win which will 100% happen? Then by all means, save the cap space.

The cap isn't an issue for Houston.

The Texans don't have a bunch of cap room but they have enough if they want to roll the dice w Tony. Osweiler will cost them $19 mill of cap room this season regardless if he's on the team or a June 1 cut.

The Texans want a young QB? So we keep Romo and trade Dak for Watt and Clowney. I make that deal!
