I'm gonna stick with my Samsung 61" DLP I got a few years ago until they get the 3-D technology implemented in TVs down the line. Once that's sorted out, I'll upgrade.

Well.. I bought a 42" Panasonic plasma (TC-P42S1) tv today. I bought at Best Buy for $809, so I think I got a good deal. I got it home, set it up, hooked up the fios, and had everything working in time for the pregame. All I have to say is WOW! The picture is incredible, and the sound wasn't too bad. I'll have the surround hooked up this week.

Even though our boys lost tonight, it was really nice watching the game in HD. I can't wait to watch my other favorite sport, NHL hockey (Dallas Stars).

Thanks to everyone for the input on which tv to get. I was set on buying an LCD, but I'm glad I went with plasma.

How long ago did you have a plasma, and what do you like better about your LCD?

I replaced a Samsung plasma with the LCD. The plasma had an..."accident". I am not a nit picky person and cant honestly see any difference the TV's pictures. They are both excellent. I like the LCD it's lighter and has no heating issues. The plasma did produce a lot of heat. And I suggest if you don't have a Blu-Ray player. Get One.

As some one who works in the biz... I would have to say Plasma. As long as you can control the light in the room it will provide you with a much better picture. This years Panasonic plasmas are what is known as neo-pdp ( 5 lumen technology) They are really very power efficent. if you check crutchfields site they have interesting stuff on actually power usage.

If you where to run a 54G10 for 6 hours a dday for 31 days @ 10c/kilowatt hour it would cost you $4.55

The top of the line led lcd from Samsung would run you about $2.84 for the same period... The difference is not huge...

Plus I find motion resolution and blacks are much better on plasma... ( hey just my humble opinion...)

Since you work in the biz I've got a question. Do you think there is a big difference in the G10 series and V10 series Panasonics?

I'm on the verge of buying a new TV and have pretty much decided on a Panasonic plasma and was extremely close to buying a G10 until I heard of the V10s .

Biggest difference is if you watch blurays. The V10 adds 96hz processing which allows for a 4:4 pull down ( vs 3:2 for 60hz or 2:2 for 48 hz) Other than that there is not that much difference. ( just how they handle 1080p/24fps blu rays)

Both are great tvs...

3:2 pull down often introduces something know as judder into film. 3:2 pull down processes the material like this:

Frame 1 - 3 times, Frame 2 - 2, Frame 3 - 3 times, rinse and repeat. The cadence is a little uneven an it is noticeable as judder.

What 4:4 pull down does is each frame 4 times... smooth, but not fake ( like frame interpolation...)

Thanks for the input. I'd say that 99% of my time is watching HDTV. I might get the 54" G10 and use the price difference to upgrade to a blueray player.

Bigger is nearly always better :D ... the 54 G10 can be had for around 1650.

here is a link to a dealer who is on AVS forums. very reputable guy. Pricing is pretty good. ( I am in Canada and I am in no way affiliated :) )

The 58S1 is not much more... IF you can control the lighting and don't have a glare issue big is nice!!
