Z Thomas, or K Davis?

I'm thinking at this stage that both Canty and Burnett will likely not return (at the very least they will test FA).
Not sure how all this works but I'd put a 2nd round tag on Canty so if he signs somewhere else, we'd get a 2nd in return. I think we should be able to re-sign Burnett at a reasonable price, if not let him go. Same for Davis and Thomas...

I just want to ensure we get a pick back if Canty leaves.

How you gonna put a tag on a UFA?

Out of that group, we really need to find a way to keep Miles Austin and possibly Bowen.
I dont want to see Canty leave, but his agent is already asking crazy money and I dont see how we can get Wares' deal done and still be in a position to satisfy Cantys' lofty expectations.

Burnett is the interesting one.
A second rounder that has never truly blossomed into the ILB this defense can depend upon in a starting role.
A nice presence in the nickle packages but that is falling short of what a second rounders contributions should be.
Depends on the money, always does, so I guess we take and wait and see on Canty and Burnett, and let them set their price in the market.
Maybe we can retain one of them if the price is right.

On that list I want to keep Canty, Polk, Davis, Austin, Bowen, and Hannah.

Folks seem hot on Polk - me, I like what he did on ST but really, I want a younger LB taking that job. A rookie who makes his mark on ST and actually has a chance to break into the defensive rotation -- that's what we need. Polk is a nice ST player but he's not going to develop into anything else.

We have a winner folks. These are exactly the players off of the list that I want to keep too.

Who do you think teams put tags on?

You can Franchise or Transition tag any UFA on your roster. That is the purpose of it.

RFAs you make a tendered offer to or can match any tendered offer.

I should have noted "2nd round tag"

An RFA situation is the only chance you have to make a 2nd round tender (or "tag" if you will)

Agree with whoever said Burnett strikes me as a guy too focused on getting paid. And he can't stay healthy. Let him go and draft a replacement.

Canty would be nice to have back, but someone will overpay. Pass.

I'd like for Thomas to come back, if only as a stopgap while a rookie learns the ropes.

Keith Davis would be nice as a cheap special teamer.

Miles Austin is an absolute must. Hannah is already under our control, which is good.

Surely we keep Bollinger.

Bowen is okay and I doubt anyone offers him unless we only put a very low tender on him.

The rest are meh.

If the Cowboys lose Kevin Burnett's skills and experience, you better get your offense cranked up. It will be felt.

I cannot think of one play that Burnett made last year. I have felt that way about him for several years now. His stat lines are unimpressive as well.

He is the definition of a JAG and I say only keep him if he comes cheap.

I would like to keep Austin,Bowen,Polk and Davis.

Polk and Davis are solid special teamers and I cant imagine them asking for a ton of money. Good thing keith wont be leaving this year because he "wants to start somewhere" like he did last year..I think we all know he isnt a starter..do what you do best keith and play ST!

Does anyone know what the market will be for Channing Crowder?? That guy is a tackling machine and can play ILB and still very young..that would take care of that position and we can focus on other areas in the draft

A very good friend of mine is a Dolphin fan. We spoke this morning and I asked about Crowder. He said Crowder is a nut case and really hopes Crowder doesn't come back next year. I was surprised by this but that is an honest statement from a true Dolphin fan.

The ones i have highlighted are the ones who i want to stay.

Kevin Burnett is mostly because of depth and also he his the nickle LB. He is the best coverage LB on our roster. Carlos Polk is depth and also because he can play the special teams. He made some good plays on ST this year. Keith Davis i hope they will let him walk and we draft a player to fill that position. We know Keith is going to want to be the starter(Hell the reason why he left Dallas in the first place) and quite frankly he isn't that good. Hell if Wade can hide Keith Davis than Roy Williams should have a good year next year(I hope, i am willing to give him one more year).

Tank just needs to flat out go, he has impact on this team. Hell did he even play a game this season? The only time i noticed him was when he was jumping offsides or getting blown back 30 yards. I think we should let Canty go and move Ratliff back to DE and draft a TRUE NT for the 3-4. We need a guy who is like 340LBS to anchor the middle. Besides Canty will probably be asking for too much. Bowen isn't an impact player but he is serviceable. In my opinion i think he was better than he was last year i have noticed him disrupting more plays than last year. Austin is defiantly a keeper, he has surpassed Hurd and this guy has the physical tools to be a legit #2. While he has a ways to go to fill that role but we cannot let this guy go. His speed and size is what we need. He has really improved on catching the ball this year. The only concern is how injury prone this guy is. Hurd needs to go. We should just either draft or sign a speedy WR in the free agency. Hurd really is no use to this team.

The others i really have nothing to say about other than they just flat out stink.

Also, I think if we let Burnett and Z Thomas go, and possibly Carp, we'll have to get 2 more ILBs this off-season as well, and 1 of them will have to be a starter.

If so, I hope we pick up one decent ILB via FA at the very least. That way, it puts less pressure on us going into the Draft.

I think we're only about 3 players away from potentially being an elite defense.

I think we really need a top flight Safety (via the Draft most likely), and if we could pick up one solid ILB and a big NT to help collapse the OL, I think we're there.

Great minds think alike.

Elaborate please.

Please tell me you're joking, homeslice.

Anyway, outside of Austin, Bowen, Polk, Killer, Thomas, Hurd and Hannah, I really don't care.

I don't want to pay for Burnett and Canty. They're not worth it.

I don't understand the problem with Canty. He outperformed Spears coming into last year. Who was the weakest starting player on the DL in the running game? Spears, Canty or Ratliff?

Canty certainly wasn't weak, but he just isn't worth what he'll cost.

Honestly? I'd rather have Spears. Spears showed some fire last year, and he is underrated as a run stopper, I still contend.
