You have the weirdest obsession with crappy quarterbacks, Nors...
He wants us to believe he's some kind of scouting god, and these are a few players to come out of little known schools in the New England area.

He's probably gone to see one or two games of theirs live, and what he saw in those games made him soil himself. So he pimps these guys hard, because if they ever do make it big, he believes we'll all think he's a genius.

While most of us would just chalk it up to a blind squirrel finding a nut.

It looks like to me that he just runs around picking whatever no name guy he can find, pimps him hard, that way if, for whatever reason, the guy winds up being even remotely average he can say "SEE! I TOLD YOU! I TOLD YOU HE'D BE GOOD!".

From what I've seen, including in this thread, his average of getting these things right is not overly impressive. Oops. There I go again. Saying it's not impressive. Better be careful cause some how that manages to translate into saying something sucks.

Lions' backup QBs get ready with Kitna hurting

Lions quarterback Jon Kitna has an ice pack taken off his back during Detroit's loss to Chicago on Sunday.

ALLEN PARK -- It's not that he has anything against receivers such as Kenny Moore or Brandon Middleton -- the guys he threw passes to in the preseason -- but Detroit Lions quarterback Drew Stanton likes the company he's keeping these days.

"I've got the luxury of working with Calvin (Johnson) and Roy (Williams) and Mike Furrey and Shaun (McDonald) and those guys. I didn't have that ever. This is the first time I've actually thrown to those guys," said Stanton, who was a second-round Lions draft pick last season.

Stanton and Dan Orlovsky each took half the snaps in Wednesday's practice because starting quarterback Jon Kitna is sidelined with a back injury.

In Detroit's 34-7 loss to the Chicago Bears, Kitna had to leave at halftime with back spasms. He underwent an MRI on Wednesday but the results are unknown.

"Honestly, it's kind of a day-by-day thing," Lions coach Rod Marinelli said. "Obviously, you'd like guys to practice, but you just have to see each day where we're at and kind of go from there. I don't have a great feel yet. (Kitna is) sore though."

Kitna has had back problems in the past, but he has yet to miss an NFL start because of them. Orlovsky, who took over for Kitna against the Bears, suffered injuries to his left ankle and knee late in the fourth quarter.

"I felt great," Orlovsky said after Wednesday's practice, though he acknowledged he is limited. "I felt pretty good throwing (the ball), I thought I got pretty good zip on it with good accuracy."

Orlovsky said if Kitna can't play in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, he will be ready.

"If I have a chance to start, I'd have to be dead not to. Any guy on any NFL roster is going to say that," Orlovsky said.

Stanton, meanwhile, is going to take advantage of all the practice opportunities he will receive this week.

"I took more reps with the (starting offense) than I've taken since I've been here," Stanton said. "It was nice to get out there and get some reps and just kind of get my feet back underneath me. I understand the game plan and I got some scout team reps, too.

"We split all the reps and it was good for me to get out there. Some of the stuff I haven't done before and some of it came back quick. There's a lot of valuable stuff for me to take away from this practice."

Stanton suffered a knee injury early in camp last year and missed the entire season. This year, he suffered a sprained right thumb prior to the third preseason game and is getting back to full health now.

Despite the lack of practice time, Stanton said he will be ready whenever the Lions need him.

"I think I feel comfortable now and it's just a matter of me progressing every day," Stanton said. "What was given to us today, I feel completely comfortable with everything. It's possibly a little scaled down from what they've done in the past with Jon, but not much. We're doing some different things and some different concepts that we haven't necessarily done."

Stanton isn't the only quarterback who knocked off some rust on Wednesday.

"I made sure 'Drew Two' got work today
, up and running around and some of those things," Marinelli said. "We're just trying to prepare all of them, just to see what happens."

Drew Two is a nickname for Drew Henson, the former University of Michigan quarterback who was signed in training camp after Stanton suffered the thumb injury. Henson was released in the final cut but signed to Detroit's practice squad.

If Kitna isn't healthy enough to play on Sunday and with Orlovsky unlikely to be at 100 percent, the Lions could sign Henson to the active roster as late as Saturday.

Lions' Kitna might sit out Sunday
John Niyo / The Detroit News
ALLEN PARK -- Lions quarterback Jon Kitna underwent an MRI exam on his sore back Wednesday afternoon, casting some doubt on his ability to play Sunday at Minnesota.

Kitna, who has started all 36 games for the Lions the last two-plus seasons, missed the second half of last week's 34-7 loss to Chicago after suffering back spasms.

"He's still stoved up (stiff and sore) a little bit," coach Rod Marinelli said Wednesday after the Lions' first full practice in preparation for the Vikings.

Asked if he believed Kitna, 36, would be able to play Sunday, Marinelli said, "I really don't know. Honestly, it's just kind of a day-by-day thing. I don't have a great feel yet. He's sore, though."

Kitna, who struggled with back spasms in the 2007 preseason, hasn't spoken to the local media since immediately after the loss to the Bears, when he said, "We'll see how the back responds. It's usually a four- or five-day process. I would put it at about Friday (to return to practice), but we'll see how it responds. It's pretty weak right now."

Backup Dan Orlovsky, who replaced Kitna and finished the game against the Bears, split the practice reps with third-stringer Drew Stanton. Neither quarterback has started an NFL regular-season game, but Orlovsky, in his fourth NFL season, said he wasn't feeling any anxiety.

"Not necessarily," said Orlovsky, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 97 yards with one interception Sunday. "My mind-set has been very much like a starter. You prepare like that, watch film like that, go through the week like that. Obviously, it's a little different (this week) -- we gotta see what Jon is like.

"But I don't want to say (there's) an anxiousness. I don't want to change anything I've been doing. Because if that's the case, then I haven't been doing my job the first four weeks. I've been ready the first four weeks if they called on me, and I'll be ready this week."

Orlovsky said he was limited slightly in practice by knee and ankle injuries suffered on a sack late in the fourth quarter. But both Marinelli and Orlovsky said it wasn't a concern.

"If I have a chance to start, I'll have to be dead not to," Orlovsky said, laughing.

For Stanton, the former Michigan State standout, Wednesday's practice included his most significant workload since joining the Lions as a second-round draft pick in 2007.

Stanton missed all of last season after undergoing knee surgery. He played in two exhibition games in August, then missed a month with a thumb injury on his throwing hand. Last week was Stanton's first full week of regular-season practice as a pro.

"We ended up splitting all the reps, so it was good for me to get out there and kind of get used to it," Stanton said. "Some of the stuff I haven't done before. Some of it came back quick. But there's a lot of valuable stuff for me to take out of this practice."

How much work does he think he needs before he feels ready to play?

"I think I feel comfortable now," he said. "It's just a matter of me progressing every day."

He knows the fans are clamoring for him to play, especially with the Lions off to an 0-4 start. But he also knows that doesn't matter at all.

"They're gonna play whoever they feel most comfortable playing," Stanton said of the coaching staff. "And I'm third on the depth chart right now, Dan's second. So if he's ready to play, I'm sure he'll play. And I'm fine with that. All I can do is get prepared and do whatever I can to, if I get put in that position to play, to try and be successful.

"I've been waiting for this opportunity. And I've been working hard for it. And I think anybody in this position would welcome it. You play (quarterback) so you can be the guy on that field on Sundays. I welcome it, and if the time comes, I'll do everything in my power to try to be successful."

Kitna still out; Orlovsky is likely to start

Lions starting QB held out of practice again, backup's injured ankle improving by the day.
Terry Foster / The Detroit News
ALLEN PARK -- Lions quarterback Jon Kitna saw media approaching, lowered his head and walked away. There would be another day of silence and another day of no practice for Kitna, who is out because of an injured lower back.

Lions offensive coordinator Jim Colletto said the team might wait until Sunday to decide who gets the starting nod. Backup Dan Orlovsky said he's ready, despite a left ankle injury suffered late in Sunday's 34-7 loss to the Bears. If neither quarterback can go, the Lions will shave the offensive plays to a minimum and go with third-string quarterback Drew Stanton, who has yet to play in a regular-season game.

Kitna rode a stationary bike during the open session of practice, and then went to watch his fellow quarterbacks throw passes.

If Kitna doesn't play, it would break his string of 36 consecutive starts (10-26).

Orlovsky's ankle has improved dramatically.

"On Monday, I didn't think he'd play," Colletto said. "But when he practiced on Wednesday, it looked like he was not hurt."

Orlovsky is a four-year veteran who has played in five games, completing 22 of 45 passes for 166 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns.

He received his most significant time in the loss to the Bears at Ford Field when he played the second half.

Wide receiver Mike Furrey said he's preparing as if Orlovsky is going to start Sunday.

"I think right now he (Orlovsky) is the quarterback who is going to be out there," Furrey said. "Isn't he? That's the way we are looking at it. He's in the huddle now and we are prepared to play with him.

"If Jon is to play, we are ready to go with him. But right now we are counting on Danny. He looked pretty functional out there Sunday. We look forward to playing with him and trying to get a victory."

Orlovsky wants to play and contribute to a victory. Those thoughts, he said, drifted through his mind as he stood on the field following the Lions' loss to the Bears.

As players shook hands and walked toward the dressing room, Orlovsky remained on the field, staring ahead for several moments. He said he was thinking about what had just happened and looking ahead to where he wants this team to be.

"There were a lot of things (on my mind)," Orlovsky said. "There were probably all levels of frustration. I know we are a better football team.

"It was just one of those moments where you had time to contemplate. It's embarrassing. I had the same feeling my freshman year at the University of Connecticut. I knew we were better than we showed. But we were getting beat bad by a bunch of teams.

"You know what I was thinking? I was wishing we had another chance. It was one of those feelings you wish Sunday was coming right back again. I wanted to play again."

He might get the chance against the Vikings and if he does, he said his experience against Chicago will help.

"It definitely helps being out there with the first unit taking meaningful snaps," Orlovsky said.

"Making contributions, getting hit, seeing defenses and gauging speed. It's difficult to gauge speed in practice. So that definitely helps along in the growth process for myself."

Buzz up!
After missing practice the past three days with a back problem, it might take a miracle for Lions quarterback Jon Kitna to play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. It has happened before.

In September 2007, Kitna suffered a concussion in the second quarter against the Vikings at Ford Field and left the game. He returned in the fourth quarter and led the Lions to a 20-17 overtime victory.

"It was a miracle," Kitna said a day after that victory. "I've never felt anything like that, and for it to clear up and go right back to normal as I can be, is nothing short of a miracle."

Kitna, listed as doubtful for Sunday, didn't say much to reporters Friday, although he seemed to be moving better than he had in previous days.

"I can't comment," Kitna said. "Sorry, guys."

Coach Rod Marinelli confirmed that Kitna saw a back specialist Friday morning, but he also wouldn't say much about Kitna's status for Sunday.

"I really probably shouldn't talk to the media today," Kitna said. "I can't be honest and truthful."

Dan Orlovsky, a fifth-round pick in 2005, likely will get his first NFL start if Kitna can't play. Orlovsky and Drew Stanton, a second-round pick in 2007, have been sharing most of the snaps in practice.

"He's got a lot of energy and stuff to him," Marinelli said of Orlovsky. "He's had a good week of practice."

Would Marinelli feel comfortable with Kitna playing Sunday, after not practicing all week?

"Anybody -- you know, when a guy doesn't practice you're obviously uncomfortable," Marinelli said. "Of course you'd like the guy to have plenty of reps."

If Kitna is healthy, would he start?

"I can't answer that for you right now," Marinelli said. "I don't want to tell you something and you guys write it and I made you wrong. I'd rather just keep going and wait till Sunday."

Center Dominic Raiola said he thinks Orlovsky is ready and that playing on the road could help him.

"Having Dan back there, everybody's kind of rallying around him," Raiola said. "It's a lot more positive. Everybody wants to see him succeed. We also want to get this thing on the right track."

Orlovsky said if he does get the chance, he's ready. He knows it will take his best effort to beat the Vikings.

"We're really just going to have to go out as an offense and play well, 11 guys every single snap," Orlovsky said. "We can't have 15, 20 snaps where some guy messes up or does the wrong thing or forgets what to do. You can't beat this team in Minnesota that way.

"We'll have to play our best game to give ourselves a chance offensively. Whoever's at quarterback's going to have to play a really good game to have an opportunity to win."

If you watched the game you would have seen that Oline was letting players free every damn play. He managed the game fine with no protection. Rookie yes but his two name WR's Dropped a bomb and fumbled another big reception away. Vikes fans were booing most of game and a bad PI call gave the win to Vike's late.

Orlovski QB rating will be decent/good.

The fact that he ran out of the back of the endzone, having no clue where he was at on the field, tells me exactly how far off you were about how smart/heady/whatever phrase it was you used for him.

He's a backup and nothing more.

Soooooo what do you have to say about him running out of his own end zone, his whole body in the white and STILL running :laugh2:.

He played decent, good enough to be the LIONS QB but that isn't saying much. Stanton will take over when he is ready, no doubt in my mind.

I can see rooting for the underdog.......hell, I was a huge Quincy Carter apologist......but, I just wanted him to succeed to spite all the critics, and he was our starting QB.....so I wanted him to have success while at the same time bringing success to Dallas.

As bad as Quincy was....he did get us to a 10 win season and the playoffs.

As far as Nors and his man crushes are garbage.....I have no clue what is going on there. I honestly think he does this nonsense just to get a reaction out of all of us....and just sits back at his computer laughing at all of us bashing him for his completely idiotic stance.
