There's enough desperate teams and Dak gets enough coddling from the national media that we could get a decent return on trading him
His contract isn't awful either. He's actually only 11th in total cash owed for next season. So any team acquiring him gets him on what is essentially a one year deal for $34 million, which puts him in the 10-15 range for QB pay next year.

Any sane org is doing just that. If Dak refuses to waive his NTC, cut him. Why would you waste another year running with him when you know the outcome. Find a way to trade Parsons and Lamb because those are guys we can't afford to pay at a time when there is no clear QB to lead the team. What this team needs is high draft picks and a front office with the imagination to draft and a coaching staff that can use and develop talent.
if you get a good QB coach you keep Dak one more year to give Lance another year to develop. If we go that route you know this is what Jerry is thinking.

Actually it shouldn't be that hard to trade him.

A competent GM would go to him and basically say, "Dak, unfortunately, I think we are going to strip this thing down. I know you want to win a SB and honestly, we could have a few bleak years here. We'd be open to letting your agent contact some teams and work out potential trades that would suit you and give you a better chance of making a SB in the next few years............."
No trade clause in contract!

First off we have no idea what you have in Lance or how much "development" he needs. Secondly, keeping Dak for another year is just slowing a rebuild for another year.

The Cowboys would be better served with a complete rebuild from top to bottom. But it won’t happen.

One of the reasons the 90s teams happened was because of the complete overhaul of the talent base the team had between 1989 and 91. They had to get bad to get better. It won’t happen here now because the 81 year old GM won’t allow it. But that’s what needs to happen at this point.
agree. I don't agree with Dan O. much if at all usually, but he is right this time. Sometimes a fresh major series of sweeping changes can do wonders for a business or team. Its true in life and this is no different.

Just tell him he won't be starting and demote him. He'll waive that no trade clause on the spot.

We know a lot more about Lance than you do about anyone we would draft. Who are thinking plays QB in a world we cut Dak if not Lance?

In other words, tear it down and rebuild.........two steps back to take one step forward. I guess he's saying fire MM, Quinn and eat Dak's contract.......( cap hits )

I agree with him due to my fear that after 3 straight 12 win seasons we are going to eventually regress! Some NFC East team will improve. Other young teams will grow and we will hit mediocre. That is NFL hell. I’d rather bottom out and start fresh than be middling. We already are middling in the playoffs.

I think at best you’ll have a new head coach and coaching staff.

But I don’t think the quarterback goes anywhere in 2024 unless another team is dumb enough to trade for him

Otherwise, the new coach will get next year as an evaluation period for everyone.

You realize he can waive it right?

And if you give him the option to stay here and go through a rebuild OR his agent can work out a deal to find a team needing a QB to make a SB run, there's a decent chance he'd take it right?

Russell Wilson had a no trade clause and waived it to go to Denver.

I can agree with this with one condition......I'm NOT touching Dak's contract. In other words, find a way to deal with the cap hit coz I'm not extending him.

You do it because Jerry thinks next year is going to be even better!!

Exactly.......get your new coach and staff. Eat Dak's 2024 cap hit coz I'm not extending him. 2025 becomes a drop-dead decision for him, either NFCCG, trade or release.
