I watched most of 12 Years as a Slave last night and was underwhelmed. I meant the scenes are powerful re the cruelty but I was left expecting more. I didn't think Lupita was all that special, certainly not enough to win an oscar. Probably if I had seen the movie last week, I would have thought more of it but I probably expected too much from it given it won best picture.

it won because it was the most politically correct movie in contention this year.

not hard to spot. Now the nominations are one thing; but who wins is completely a separate process. Go back year to year over the last 20 or so and you will see that the most PC movie wins most of the time. Now it has to have respect first (NO Sci Fi, fantasy or Comedies need apply) but from that point on its PC all the way.

therer have been great Sci Fi and comedies that SHOULD have at least got nominations over the years but it never happens. Or its like a bone thrown to them; they get nominated but everyone knows they have no chance of winning.
